If anyone knows a reason not to start scheduling Crown games let him speak up or forever hold his peace.

Stimpy and I fought our West Branch battle.
Turn 1 - RKR moves 16/28/21 for 21 moves, with 9 pts on the #6. HYD moves 15/30/26 for 22 moves. RKR slips in a bit, HYD launches fighters and tractors both as he accelerates to 30. At range 11, RKR still has both S-torps in arc, launches 2x30, and then slips out to show the #6. HYD comes in to range 8, and then decides to land the two fighters before the Rom can take a shot. HYD fires 5xPh-1 and standard HB, phasers do 1 to the #6, and then the hellbore gets spreadout everywhere. HYD turns off, Rom turns in, and we are setup for a chase.
Turn 2 - HYD plots 8/4 with 5 in HET, 5 in tractor and has one WW held, another brewing, based on reserve on 1.25. RKR plots 21/31/26/15 for 24 moves with 6 in tractor. The 2x30 close in while the HYD is at speed 8, his fire splits a Ph-G at both, they hit on 16th move, one real does 12 to the #5. Rom is about 6 or 7 hexes away. We check the rule about shuttle launch after HET (C6.38), and he thinks he can make it, so HETs back to put the Rom in FA on 1.6, planning to WW on 1.11. Imp 8, HYD now moving 4 has to move fwd after HET. Rom turns in to show the #1 gets to range 3 on imp 8, and launches 70 points. HYD fires 5xPh-1s for 24, and hits with OL HB for 22. Rom does not use btty, takes 6 internals (Ph-3, Tractor and F Hull). Next imp (9), Rom slips, still showing the down #1, so HYD takes range 3 shot with 2xFusion, scored 4 more, Rom blocks 2 with 4 reserve, takes Ph-3 and Aft hull. Imp 10 the plasma is at range 1, HYD fires Ph-G at the real S, takes 7 off. HYD attempts to tractor the Rom, goes up to 10 power at range 2, Rom blocks with 5 power. Impulse 11 the plasma hit for 63 on the full #2, HYD takes 33 internals (HB, 4xPh-1s, trac, six power and all the hull). HYD can then launch WW/Fighters in shuttle launch phase. Rom is moving around the HYD, planning to give the phaser hose out the rear on the weak #5, assuming fighters don't come out.
It was a good fast game, the Lord Marshall just miscalculated by one impulse, giving the Rom a zero energy anchor. Good game, Stimpy!

So, no chance of Hydran vs Hydran final.

Seth won easily. I made a movement mistake turn 2 and he rolled well enough to do a lot of internals.

Crown3 Round 1 MadJack NEO vs kingzila HYD
Turn 1 I loaded 4 fusions & put in into both hellbores. I went 16/19 with a total of 19 movements with 3 on the # 1 shield, no power to shuttles or trac. I had no plans on launching ftr’s turn one. I thought the Neo would load standards to fire at the ftrs and not give a range 8 shot. The Nero went 26 all turn came down the board and the HYD did the same. When we got to range 17 or so Jack turned off. The Hyd turned towards him to chase him down. Around impulse 23 the Neo turned back and at range 13 the Neo laid web between us. At range 10 before the web got hard the Neo fired 3 standards at the HYD # 1 shield with all hits. The Hyd took 6 damages after the 3 that was allocatated on the #1. On impulse 28 the HYD launched the ftrs and the NEO turned in while the HYD keep coming at the web. On impulse 31 the Neo was range 4 from the ftrs and the HYD and fired 5 p1 at the HYD’s #1 and 2 phaser ones at 1 fighter. All phaser fire had a neg to to damage because of the web. The HYD # one shield has 6 points left and did no reinforcement. One ftr took 6 damage. Impulse 32 the HYD slipped out to avoid the web and the ftr’s went to the other side of the web. The Neo turned into the middle of the web planning driving threw the web to avoid the side the HYD was on but the NEO has sticky on. The HYD has not shot. The Neo fired 1 OL disrupter at the heathy ftr and 3 phaser 3’s at the weak ftr missing with everything range 3.
Turn 2 the HYD OL both Hellbores and hold 4 fusions and put 3 into a HET and 1 into trac. The HYD did 26 until impulse 5 then speed changed to 19 with 8 impulses later slowing down hard with 16 into movement. The way it laid out the HYD can make a turn and get to the other side of the web where it looked like the NEO was going to catch him. The NEO went 26 also and did a HET after the HYD made the turn showing his #4 shield but had 2 web hexes protecting him. So, the new plan was to crash the web to get a range 4 shot but the NEO did a speed change to 31 when the HYD went to speed 19. If I made the HET for the range 4 shot the NEO could slip out of arc to the HYD – so I had to go the long way and hope for range 8 shot. Around impulse 6 the ftrs had done a HET before so they could go around the web and took a shot at range 6. The ftr’s did 12 damage to the NEO # 4 shield. On impulse 5 the NEO laid a new web to try to avoid a range 8 shot that looks like it will happen in a few impulses. On impulse 9 the HYD was able to crash the web to get a range 8 shot on the NEO # 4 shield. On that impulse the NEO could turn/go straight or slp. The slip was only option to avoid the # 4 shield but I think the NEO just wanted to get away, so the NEO turned. The HYD fired 5 phaser 1’s - 2 fusions – 4 phaser 3’s and 2 overloaded Hellbores doing 15 then 19/19 from the hellbores. Looked like the NEO was going to take 22 internals without damaging the HYD so he put up the white flag.
The NEO was very crafty and almost got away without taking any damage. Great game.

congrads to sparten for the crown winner
By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - 01:47 am: Edit |
It was a great game, thanks Kingzila!
I'll give a quick summary.
Turn 1 - Rom was 16/31/16 for 20 moves, Hydran was 16/26 for 20 moves. Rom slips in, Hydran slips out, launches fighters. About range 12, Rom launches 2x30, and then turns in; Hydran also turns in, gets to range 8, fire is everything from the fighters, 5xPh-1, OL and standard HB, both hit. 24 to shield, which has 15 reinf, then 16 HB damage takes shield #2 down to 5, with 16 around. Rom counter fire is 5xPh-1s at a fighter, which goes poof. Plasma ends the turn at range 2, each take 2xPh-3s from on-side Ph-G.
Turn 2 - Hydran is 26/25/20/26 (23+ moves), Rom is 21/25 late (24 moves), 2x30 are revealed as fake, would have hit for 36 on shield #3 if real (!!) ... There is a chase up into the NE corner. Rom gets to about range 7, launches 50 pts (A&C), fires 5xPh-1s doing 17 vs Hydran's #3. Hydran returns fire with 3xPh-1s, doing 9 to the Rom's #1. Rom then turns behind Hydran, moving N. Looks like Hydran will take 45 pts, being pinned in the corner, moving NE, turn N late, might hit the wall ...
Turn 3 - Hydran is 4/9/14 for 11 moves, Rom is 21/15 for 17 moves. Rom slips in to blast the Hydran's #5 for only 8 pts impulse #2. Hydran then launches WW, takes 7 collateral on the #4, begins to turn around, hugging N wall. Rom is about 10-12 hexes away, Hydran fires 2xStandard HB at Rom and missed with both (Rom had 8 pts reinforcement on the weak #2, but hits would have hurt). Rom waddles around, about imp 19-20 when Hydran speeds up to 14, Rom launches 50 pts (B&D) timed to hit on the 10th impulse. Hydran has fighter deployed, fires the kitchen sink and blocks 5 (w btty?), so this takes the full #2 own to 15 pts. Rom turns out, Hydran pursues.
Turn 4 - Hydran is 14/16/27 late (15 moves?), Rom is 15/28 late, re-arming and repairing weak #2 to 7 boxes. Hydran gets back up to speed, chases the Rom across the map, towards the middle, SW direction. Hydran fighter is deployed, fires fusions and ph-G at range 7-8, scores 2, finding a reinforced #5 as Rom is moving S, slipping out, fighter is tractored and recovered. Late in the turn, Hydran accelerates to 27, Rom accels to 28. Hydran fires 5xPh-1s at range 5, scoring 17 and sees further 5 pts reinforcement on the #5. Rom fires 4xPh-1s at Hydran's #1, takes it down to 15. Ships end at range 5.
Turn 5 - Hydran is 26/25/12/16 for 17+ moves. Rom is 28/14/13 for 16 moves. Rom launches 50 pts on imp #1 at range 5. Hydran fires 2xOL hellbores, rolls double 9's and misses with both (!!), turns out (NW, the N) and runs from plasma. Rom turns out, SW, the clockwise around to pursue. Hydran runs N from the plasma, deploys and tractors fighter, blasts plasma with 3xPh-Gs, Ph-1s, takes only 5 pts on the #4 after the 14th move. Hydran then runs NE, Rom pursues.
Turn 6 - Hydran is 16/25 late, 16+ moves. Rom is 26 all turn. Hydran has turned SE, slipping out, Rom is running straight NE, up into the NE corner. Hydran is hugging the N wall, Rom closes in to range 5 by imp 24, launches 50 pts (B&D). Hydran announces emer decel, as the plasma is 10 hexes from the E wall. Rom then fires 5xPh-1s at the weak #3, rolls well and scores 19 vs the 7 box shield, no reinf, takes 12 internals (HB, Fusion, 2xPh-1s, 4 power and hull).
Looks like Rom might be able to turn SE, then S, maybe range 8 or 9+ from Hydran by the end of the turn. Hydran might have FC up by impulse #1, and would be able to fire the last HB as OL against Rom's 7 box weak #2. Rom's shields are 18/7/20/21/9/27, so maybe Rom can soak up HB into a reinforced #2 and #5, might take those shields down to 1-2 boxes, if it hits. Hydran shields are 15/15/0/12/16/30, and 12 internals. Rom will have 2xPlasma Turn 8, and then another 2 turn 9, but Hydran will be starting Turn 7 from speed 0, will be speed 10 or less for the early part of Turn 8 ...
Hydran raises the white flag at this point.
Great Game, Seth! It was close, could have gone either way, the miss with 2xOL at range 5 was rough!
By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - 12:10 pm: Edit |
Sounds like it would have been a lot closer if those missbores would have hit.
Sounds like it was well-flown by both sides. Thanks for posting.
By Stefan Lenfest (Himosan) on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - 05:37 pm: Edit |
Tense game, kingzilla sniffed out those pseudos but they still got Spartan a nice chase position. Terrible luck on those OL HB with <8% chance of both missing although one hit (40%) would probably be split three ways and may not have changed the outcome. Losing a HB on 12 int (~50%) was another tough break and the rest of that small volley was wild too (I got ~0.2% on the HYD losing 4 power with only 12 in). All 3 Crown winners have been big plasma which may not mean much but being dice resistant can't hurt in single elimination.
