Honestly ... I kinda like UberHawk.

Anyway, it's all fairly moot until it gets actually made. That's why I was starting with BalorHawk. It's an unusable name that works as a placeholder.

But, I can't look at this in detail until I get done with a few tenders and space control ships.

Uber hawk…. Uh no.just no.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 10:09 am: Edit

As long as the Romulans still employed naval architects, someone would have come up with the design as a “what if” exercise.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 10:37 am: Edit

Almost all of the battleships fit the what if category.

UltraHawk sounds best. So far.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 11:17 am: Edit

It is a natural progression from the MegaHawk.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 12:07 pm: Edit

UltraHawk should, then, be the big megahawk.

Still need a name for the big demonhawk. DevilHawk would be logical but produce confusing acronyms.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 12:25 pm: Edit

AsuraHawk? Drawing on the Hindu term for the rough equivalent of demons in that body of belief.

Or TitanHawk, calling back to Greek myth and of course that this is a really big ship?

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 02:16 pm: Edit

If "DevilHawk" is not viable as a name in and of itself, perhaps one could use names of specific beings which hold comparable roles in various Earth belief systems.

For example: I see that "L" is as yet unused on the alphabetical list of Hawk Series names. So, if "MorningstarHawk" would be too close to "StarHawk" for comfort, well...

Alternatively, might "HadesHawk", "PlutoHawk", "HelHawk" (with one l, from Norse mythology), "YamaHawk", or another other such name work better instead?

On a side note:

Would it be "logical" to envision a "fast" iteration of this proposed battleship design, akin to the Klingon B9 or Romulan King Shrike?

If so, perhaps it might be worth keeping a candidate class name aside as a "spare", for use with such a design someday.

In terms of what such a BBL might look like: perhaps it would "cut back" to the DemonHawk modular setup, but be obliged to hard-weld these modules to the hull for dynamic balance purposes.

UltraHawk would be choice…

By Dal Downing (Rambler) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 11:25 pm: Edit

Umberhawk?

By Dal Downing (Rambler) on Monday, August 18, 2025 - 11:37 pm: Edit

Erebushawk - Erebus is the closest Roman Culture to Hell.

By Douglas Saldana (Dsal) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 12:05 am: Edit

LegionHawk since "legion" can refer to Roman legions or a group of demons.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 01:22 am: Edit

Oohhh I do like LegionHawk.

By Vincent Solfronk (Vsolfronk) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 04:50 pm: Edit

Super-Megasonic-Hawk!

By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 05:46 pm: Edit

Legion Hawk sounds good

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 06:47 pm: Edit

I like Ultrahawk myself.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - 07:46 pm: Edit

SpH-R modules might be less of a bad idea on this compared to on a FireHawk or the modular dreadnoughts - as a battleship the loss of the phasers from the K-modules would be proportionately less, and it such a robust hull is certainly protecting your repair capability. Two SkH-A modules makes up the phaser difference, nevermind mind taking anything mounting attrition units.

By Joshua I. Penick (Tricericon) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - 10:28 am: Edit

I also like Ultrahawk.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - 12:07 pm: Edit

"LegionHawk" doesn't sound too bad. There are various Star Legions in the Romulan navy, after all.

Perhaps "EquiteHawk" or "AlaHawk", for a would-be "fast" iteration, then?

-----

I agree with the concept posted earlier about the SkyHawk modules taking up the space which otherwise would be spared for aft-mounted plasma launchers on an Alpha Octant battleship.

Also, since the design is intended to be modular, perhaps this would mean the base hull would not have any fighters as standard? As in, any fighters would have to be provided by the modules so chosen. This would be a departure from most Alpha battleship templates - but would be in keeping with the Iridani way of approaching modular battleship usage, historically-speaking.

AlphaHawk for the big DemonHawk. Credit to Alex Chobot.
UltraHawk for the big MegaHawk.
LegionHawk can be some kind of huge commando ship to match the Gorn commando dreadnought.

Mike West, spin them up for Operation Texas Eagle.

…I’m getting a proposal accepted? Glory to the Empire (but especially my House)!

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Thursday, August 21, 2025 - 02:23 pm: Edit

Can I use the Demonhawk for the LegionHawk? I think that could get me a LONG way!

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Thursday, August 21, 2025 - 02:50 pm: Edit

Mike, the question there is what are you going to do to the hull above and beyond fitting both sizes of G-modules? That’s over 70 boarding parties including specialists, or a cohort and a half. Doing a conversion of the hull to include a fixed landing force (say another SkG’s worth, to allow a full two cohorts) would be an option - and it can have some justification by saying this means the fleet flagship will always have that integrated force no matter what modules it mounts.

A less ambitious/more practical approach may be a Mega/OmniHawk that hardwelds G-modules instead of K-modules.

(All of a sudden I’m reminded of the note at the back of the R7 rulebook, and I’m happy that I can be part of the problem!)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, August 21, 2025 - 03:11 pm: Edit

Alex, remind everyone of the note.

Mike W, sure, Legion of Demons.
