How much shield damage on the 2 plasma ships after 12 turns?
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Tuesday, November 04, 2025 - 11:37 am: Edit
We are going into turn 18.
TKE shields: (30,19,13,30,15,6). 3 armor hit. 2 shuttles left. 1 F-torp ppt left.
TKR shields: (9,23,2,21,24,3). 16 internals (3 repairs) - after repairs still missing 2xph3, 3xwarp, tractor. 1 shuttle left, ppts have been used.
T18, TKE is at full speed but TKR is limited to 14 for 8, then 28 (having done a speedy weasel on turn 17), but TKR does have the center of the board. Currently at range 12.
I think TKR is fully loaded this turn? TKE is 3rd turn arming for Fs & 2nd turn for R.

What is going on with these games?
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Sunday, November 09, 2025 - 11:39 pm: Edit
Stimpy(TKE) over Hardcore(TKR). We flew around for 20 turns, launched a bunch of plasma. Eventually the TKE ran the TKR out of shuttles & landed 2 F's for 30 pts on an 8 box shield. Game was plagued by some UI issues for Carl but he powered through it. GG Carl!

Yeah, trying to locate the invisible IA window took time. Then I couldn't open the speed plot window in EAF but had to type it manually. Restarting the client didn't help. We really should have quit for the day but that would mean waiting until next weekend.
In the last turn i tried use speed to run away from pl-fs, but the client didn't let me submit the eaf! I got a warning message that i had not allocated enough energy to cover my speed plot(!). Apparently there was an old plot locked in, in some way. On Daniels suggestion I increased warp power, but also had to allocate more to movement.
NOW I could submit the EAF.
THEN, I recalled, too late. (!) that i was under acceleration restrictions from previous turn.
I couldn't run from the torps, the energy was locked in and couldn't be used for reinforcement. A bit tired of it all i decided to turn in, "- the torpedoes" and all that.

Spartan its been 3 weeks since we played - Quit or play - personally I think u should be booted.

Seth, I had to navigate my SFBOL renewal, which is done. I've sent you email on the schedule.
By Seth Shimansky (Kingzila) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 06:59 am: Edit
you are way past your time limit - renewal is a day or 2. In your email you say you have little time to do this so MAN up & drop out. I need a Judge on this. I not doing this crap where I have to play you at 1 in the morning to make this work. The past Month I was very clear I can play any night from 5pm EST -11pm EST. You had a month to make this work. Its a 2 week time limit. You are way past due. Your renewal BS wont fly. This game is being called one way or the other by a judge. This needs to be called with a loss to you because you delayed the game way past the time limit. Just because the Judge has not watched the time limits does not mean you can abuse them.
By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 01:34 pm: Edit
Renewal is not an easy affair when there is Japanese paypall issues and you end up using your tournament credits snd that requires multiple email to Jean and Paul. Don't assume so much Seth. You got a status email during the process which you did not respond to.
If you want to make it difficult, fine, go get a ruling.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 02:28 pm: Edit
Both of you take a deep breath and schedule time to finish this thing this week in mid-evening for Seth. If I (the ultimate boss) have to go speak with a judge I will.
By Seth Shimansky (Kingzila) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 08:46 pm: Edit
sorry please call it - either way I don't care.
It is not a enjoyable game for me. For him I played at 11pm to 2:30am then he said he needed to save. I made my time totally free every day for over 3 weeks & no real response from him - not until I called him out on the boards 2x. During the game 1/3 of the time was him doing the EA going 15+ minutes after I finished - breaking the rules. I explained this to him and he laughed. I know he will be breaking the rules if we did play with non aggression. This is my last tournament - if I move on or not. Its not a tournament if the rules are broken and then not enforced. I thank you for the tournaments in the past that where ran well. Thank you for the great times and the players that made it great games.
This all might be from S10 round round 3. Spartans RKR vs kingzila RKR. We placed a bet of Romulan ale goes to the winner. Well I never got my winnings. Never thought much of Spartan since.
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 09:32 pm: Edit
Wait, is Romulan Ale an actual thing? Was this an actual bet, or just funny pre-game banter that created mismatched expectations?
I'm not taking sides, but it seems like a lot of times animosity can be rooted in misunderstanding, vs. actual slights.
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 09:58 pm: Edit
Point being: sfb players are a dying breed, we have to preserve & grow relationships between players instead of letting things break down. It was a big enough challenge getting this tourney off the ground, what will SS 20 be like when there's 2 less players in the pool?
If Geof truly owes you a bottle of Romulan Ale, let me know where to find it & where to send it & I'll fulfill his debt.
By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 10:06 pm: Edit
I agree with Seth on scheduling. The schedule should be enforced so everyone can play more tournament games in a year. Not to mention it respects everyone's time.
As an aside, it is insane to have a duel last 20 turns, that's another problem. Those guys didn't do anything wrong and if they were inclined would have played 10 more turns before it was really over. We need a turn time limit on games online. Some people are perfectly happy cloaking and playing forever. They are allowed as there are no rules forbidding it and no time limits at all being enforced.
For me, I play for fun, not as a job. I shouldn't be punished for having a life.
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 10:25 pm: Edit
Ya, I think their game is only like 3 turns in. The 20 turn game was myself & Hardcore, which was definitely a challenge, as we're 9 hours apart in timezone. There were also a lot of issues with UI problems, disconnects, missed scheduling, etc. However, we still got it done, and it was overall fun & worthwhile, imo.
It was 20 turns because TKE vs TKR, there wasn't a lot of cloaking (zero impulses by the TKR, less than 50 impulses by the TKE), but ballets & cautious play can make things take awhile. I think if the game is moving along, extensions should be granted. If no one is scheduling/playing, then things bog down & it is no good for anyone.
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 10:48 pm: Edit
To follow up: I would NEVER fly TKE in a face-to-face tourney (not that those exist anymore) because of the time limitations. What's great about SFBOL, is that it makes that ship somewhat viable in a tournament again (if your opponent has some patience), which adds just a little more flavor to the tourney. I would argue that extra flavor is a good thing, but I could also be convinced that TKE should be banned entirely.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - 11:12 pm: Edit
Seth, send me an email, I want to ask some questions before I speak with the judge about this. I did expect when Jean and I invented Sapphire Star that time limits would be held. That was the whole point of the new event series.
By Justin Royter (Metaldog) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - 10:36 am: Edit
The 20 turn fight could have been over in 5 or 6 turns, the players chose that fight on both sides, both players chose to ballet. There were opportunities to end this game much quicker however neither player was willing to use an aggressive strat or to change the dynamic and line up an attack. The 20 turns was a choice not an outcome based on ship flaws or capabilities. Both players were content to ballet and win by the other player making mistakes, very common, ALL too common. This was a choice, hence 20 + turns.
By Daniel Bitseff (Cadet_Stimpy) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - 12:07 pm: Edit
I don't disagree with that.
By Carl-Magnus Carlsson (Hardcore) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - 01:32 pm: Edit
Yes, that's how Daniel got the phaser damage to his shields. Those four phasers volleys on his shields in the first 7 turn did 62 damage. Passive play! When will they find a cure!
On a more serious note; I think it would shorten the plasma vs plasma game if the PPTs were removed in that match up.

I'm happy to buy Seth Romulan Ale or whatever other strong beverage he wants if I ever meet him in person. News to me that he's holding a grudge on that.
I hope I get a chance to email Mr. Cole as well, since there are always two sides to a story, and I do not agree with some things Seth has said.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - 02:02 pm: Edit
Geoffrey, you don't need my permission to email me. Fire away. I didn't ask you to contact me as I understood your position better than Seth's, which lacked some clarity. But do always feel free to inform me.
I try VERY hard to stay out of tournament thing but when a stink goes public the head of the company sort gets dragged in. Things like this should not be happening. The fact that they did does not mean any specific party is automatically at fault.
I do appreciate the concept of handling an issue at the lowest level. You try to work it out with your opponent. If that doesn't work you contact a judge. If that doesn't work you contact Petrick (the Chief Marshal). If that doesn't work, you contact me and say "this doens't look well for your company's record of customer service." I never get involved in who won or who lost, not unless Petrick asks me to review something and check his math. But I do get involved when someone says that the rules aren't being followed.

Justin thanks for adding to my point. Face to face RAT tournament games at Origins or anywhere would not go 20+ turns, ever. Someone had to win in a few hours, or the game got adjudicated. We need something similar here, I think. It's not reasonable that anyone has to play a 20-turn game because his opponent makes no effort to win in 10-12.

Seth/Geoff,
Feel free to CC me on the Emails since I don't remember see anything from either of you saying there was an issue. I look back now I see the issue with the subscription. And I resolved that a little late (i.e. just this past weekend). But Seth, I didn't hear anything from you that you were frustrated about the scheduling situation. This is the first time I have heard anything about this.
