The current Klingon DX, as printed in Module X1, is the first-generation X-iteration of a Klingon D7C command cruiser.

By contrast, there is a Klingon D5WX in Module X1R, which is an X1-ship based on the D5W hull type.

In operational and strategic terms, the D5WX has certain limitations, relative to the DX. As a "wartime design built to peacetime standards", it is not possible to upgrade preexisting D5Ws: all D5WXs must be new construction. Further, the resulting ships are more limited in terms of "station-keeping": for example, it's not feasible for them to be deployed on Operation Unity.

So, I was wondering if it had been an option for the Klingons to consider what an X1-ship iteration of the D7K might have looked like, as an alternate backstop to the DX compared to the D5WX.

In terms of starship design, there might not be too much needed to make such a concept function. After all, the Romulans were able to field comparable K7Xs out of the few K7R hulls they had to hand in the early Y180s.

It would possess the superior disruptor bolt suite (and inferior drone suite) of the DX, relative to what is seen on the D5WX. As a "line" ship, it would have a Command Rating of 9.

In Federation and Empire terms, such ships would likely be at least marginally cheaper for the Klingons to build or convert, relative to a "full" DX: something which might be helpful, in light of how economically strained the Empire had become by the tail end of the General War.

So, might the D7X be a class of X1-ship worth considering someday: to compare with other "peacetime construction" CAX hulls to be found elsewhere in the Alpha Octant, and/or as an alternative to the D5WX for the Deep Space Fleet to operate?
