To use a 2X Ship.def.
1. Add Piece in a SFB room.
2. Choose the Tab marked "Other"
3. On the drop down menu just below the counter selection choose "User Defined"
4. Choose User Defined Ship.
5. Generic piece Window will appear.
6. Type in the name of the ship. IE: Enterprise, Yorktown, My Ship.
7. Enter Ship Definition File name. Hit the button to the right. Go to where the 2X Ship.defs have been stored.
8. Choose your ship. Hit the Open Button.
9. You will go back to the Genric Ship window.
10. Hit OK the ship is loaded into the SFB room your in.
OPTIONAL: Duplicate Steps 7-9 to include any counters you wish under user defined.
*Note: This will only work if you have the 2X ship def in the first place. You CAN NOT Download it from the client. And don't waste your time uploading it into the client since they can NOT be included.

If any other ships have been done for the 2X discussion that ppl want SFBOL ship def's done for let me know. Just email me a link to the webpage.
*Note: I will not do any ships that dont match ADB's web policy. So make sure they conform or I'll just ignore the request.

"Fed XCMFa AWR and Flag refits"
Technically that should be XCMCa
By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Friday, August 29, 2003 - 10:21 pm: Edit |
I'm keeping things simplified. Since it's called a Flag Refit. It gets listed as F. Offhand I can't think of a refit that adds Flag capabilities without changing the Hull type classification. Or adding weapons.
IE: Fed CA-CC, NCL-CLC.
Anyway we will have plenty of time to have things conform after we stabilize whats going into the next playtest stage.

I have only a couple of ship's to go now. I have to go back and modify the existing defs for a couple of ships since they have been redone.
I have the ISC DD, FF to do along with a few other odds and ends. But I should be ready to start emailing the ships out to whoever requests them starting tomorrow.

Placing 2X Ships into SFBOLXP
(These are preparation steps that only have to be done one time.)
1. Start SFBOLXP either on or offline doesn’t matter.
2. In window : SFB Online: The Client for all online SFU Games Click on Tools.
3. Click on Graphical Definition Tool
4. A new window labeled Graphical SSD Definition Tool will come up.
5. Click on File
6. Click on Load Ship Definition
7. A new window labeled: Select Ship definition file will come up.
DO NOT Select any of the racial folders.
9. Click on the Icon that will say create new folder when you hover the cursor over it. (It’s the second Icon going from left to right on my system. Check your just to be sure.)
10. Type in 2X as the name of the folder. And click on Open.
11. Close all the windows you have opened. Now you can extract the ship.defs from the email. (I will send completed ship defs to anyone who requests them.) And place them into the 2X folder you just created.
*Note*: These following steps are for those people who might need help placing the defs into the proper folder.
12. When you save the email attachments use the browse command.
13. Local Disc C
14 Program Files
15. SFB Online XP
16. SFB folder
17. and finally the 2X folder you created above.
Here’s the pathway command on my system.
C:\Program Files\ SFB Online XP\ SFB\2X
The instructions for actually playing with the SFBOL 2X.defs are listed above. Along with instructions on how to place one of them into a room.

For whoever wants to use X2 Ships in SFBOL here's the current list.

These don't include any of the ship SSDs that have been done later. Like Mikes Feds V1-8. Or even the Orion XCA.
If you want to use the ships simply email me [from my profile] and request them. Or if you want another one to use simply request it, and depending on my time I can do it.
*NOTE: These ship defs can not be placed into SFBOL for general download since they are basically playtest and full ssd's.

With the impending upgrade of SFBOL to V(4?). All of the old ship definitions will have to be redone. (Not only for 2X but all the other defs in the library.)
It hasn't happened yet, but it will.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 03:56 pm: Edit |
Ken,
This is only if you want to take advantage of the refit feature where you can have all the refits of a ship in a single definition.
Paul Franz
By Jonathan Biggar (Jonb) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 06:36 pm: Edit |
Paul, wouldn't it be possible to design a tool that merges several v3 ship descriptions into a single v4 description with refits?
By Les LeBlanc (Lessss) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 06:43 pm: Edit |
Theoretically, but some ships have different refits submitted by different people with different images.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 09:10 pm: Edit |
Jonathan,
As Les pointed out it depends on who submitted it. Also, the thing is you need a ship that contains ALL of the refits (like a normal SSD) and the ones that do not apply to that refit are marked destroyed.
As it is after I know that the ship definition tool is good. I will probably open it up to people who want to get a head start.
Paul Franz
By Les LeBlanc (Lessss) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 10:11 pm: Edit |
Hopefully it is marked as something other than destroyed. In a multi ship battle you don't want people getting confused and repairing a system the ship doesn't have.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 10:56 pm: Edit |
Les,
I do plan for that. At the moment, it is just marked destroyed. But heck, I just finished doing the initial implementation today.
Paul Franz
By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 - 10:02 am: Edit |
Paul F.
Thanks for the heads up. Since most of the 2X ship defs I've done are fully refitted then editting out (in game) the surplus systems isn't a problem.
