How about HTML (High energy Turn Mode protocoL)!

Oh Gee, do we have enough Agonizer Booths to go around for every one?

(Oh POOOR Loren! Now we get to see what 'Well Done' is like in the Agonizer Booth!)

From SVC's musings in P6:

Gary Forbis suggested that ships might have a "warp capacitor" to allow them to "bank" movement points for later use. I said no at the time, but have lately thought it possible.
This might come in handy with HMM/HEB4T. Comments anyone?

Smacks of as many problems as the Positron Flywheel.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Saturday, November 29, 2003 - 10:58 pm: Edit

Yup, Positron Flywheel all the way. And for some reason, no body knows why, the Positron Flywheel causes X-Ships to blow up.

I think "no" was the right answer then and now.

Oops, sorry Steve.

RBN: I don't think you crossed any lines or anything. Just be glad SVC stopped it before is went into 37 posts for nothing! :O

(something that can happen in the X-Files easily.)

One thing we use on occasion is to let them use hoverwarp with their center warp engines. Even two or three points can make for an interesting improvement in in manauverability.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 08:42 pm: Edit

I think hovewarp is too powerful for X-tech.

I proposed spending reserve warp to buy hexes toward the next turn...

There's been an X2 manouvering thread since deember of 2001. Lets talk about a turn mode improvement system there. We don't need to make a new thread.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Friday, July 06, 2007 - 11:54 am: Edit

It's always good to start out with a post of substance.

Resolved: X2 ships maneuver better.

Proposals:

Tos: Across the board turn mode upgrade

Loren: Spending an undefined amount of Impulse to buy a turn while under warp

Me: (Archives) Spending reserve warp power equal to one hex of movement to buy one hex toward fulfilling one's turn mode.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Friday, July 06, 2007 - 12:40 pm: Edit

Another I recall was that if X2 ships use an ASIF, additional power put into it would improve the turnmode and breakdown rating. So, put in 2 points extra (for example), and you bump your turn mode a level and knock a number of your breakdown rating. Not for or against, just pointing it out.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Friday, July 06, 2007 - 02:03 pm: Edit

I like Johns propsal pretty well but if there is to be an ASIF rule (I really hope so) then I would like the increased maneuver to only be allowed IF the ASIF is on (perhaps in reinforced mode).

(For those who don't know what the ASIF proposal was it stands for Advanced Structural Integrity Field. Basically it's the core technology that allows X2 ships to be strong enough to handel addtional stresses of X2 but also it reinforces the hull in some way (absorbs so amount of damage) and provides some additional bennefits. There are several proposals as to the specifics in another thread. It shouldn't be discussed here except as to how it might relate to maneuver.)

By Tos Crawford (Tos) on Friday, July 06, 2007 - 04:23 pm: Edit

Don't credit me as in the camp of across the board turn mode upgrades. I'm completely uncommitted on the matter, including that X2 ships maneuver better.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Friday, July 06, 2007 - 06:09 pm: Edit

What if they maneuvered worse but had the special abilities such as the impulse turn and the ability to make them more than once a turn.

So, by spending more impulse power they can out maneuver their opponants but once they lose impulse due to damage they start becoming sluggish.
Say a Fed cruiser has TM-E (instead of D) but has four impulse and can make two impuse turns a turn using two impulse energy each. These can be made each of two impulses apart and two impulses after a normal turn so in six impulse and X2 cruiser could turn three times. Each turn (Navigational Impulse maneuver (NIM) or normal maneuver resets the turn-mode). Can be plotted or used from Impulse reserve. The NIM system could be use to perform a second consecutive sideslip maneuver for the same cost.

The engineering is that X2 ships have substatial energy available so the engineers get around various hull limitations by using that energy to compensate. Say X2 ships can sustain high warp for longer periods making them the equivelent to Fast Cruisers (not as quite fast in a sprint but higher endurance so faster in long distance runs).

Just an alternative thought.

Worth exploring.

By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Saturday, July 07, 2007 - 12:27 am: Edit

Also there's the mirco-HET.
Costs 3 movement points.
Can HET up to 60 degree either way.
Can Cost a HET bonus.
Can cause break down but not tumbling.

It is in effect the TAC-at-warp thing that some people have made the mistake thinking was actually part of the game.
