Why would you have speed 20 drones in Y182?

Dunno, MJC suggested it. Maybe the C7 was going to attack the Tholians when a CX intercepted?

Still interested in your take on more detailed tactics for the DNL/CMX duel, Cfant. Ship comparisons only go so far, it's winning tactics that I'm after, especially ones that the X side can't easily spot and counter.

You have to be very patient. The DNL will have to wait a while. Setting up your drones to come from the offside of the DNLs attack run is important.

Also, the DNL will be moving as fast as the CMX at most times, so the DNL will wait till the EW is right and try for a range 8 shot, then move away for a while.

It will be a very long battle, and X-ships can only keep up everything foor a while. Once their batteries are empty, they are very suseptible.

A minimal CMX plot during the pursuit (CMX following the DNL while waiting for the DNL to start turning around to use the photons) is to use it's 48 power like this: 3 housekeeping (no need for AFC), 31 move, 4 to hold 4 G torps (depending on reserve to launch). This leaves it 10 power per turn surplus - it's not going to run out of breath.

Well, I really don't see either ship gaining aadvantage over the ootheer unless someone does soomething stuupid.

If you're free now, would you care to try it online? Fed DDX vs C7 (speed 20 drones), floating map, no EW, WS-2 start? I feel that the DDX is advantaged there, moving to even if the C7 gets fast drones. Swap the C7 for say a Rom NHK (w. Sabot) or Kzin BCH (fast drones) and I'd somewhat prefer the DDX again - the C7 is a powerhouse by non-X standards.

There's a reason I wrote OR and not AND.

I was making a point through the use of an analogy.

Though after ten turns of chasing the CMX gets to say "Stalemate, you disengage" and therefore wins. As that's not a very satisfying victory, it might want to take some other options. One is to simply bolt, which can do internals in one shot at 15 hexes, 20 if centerlined. Even with a miss, doing this from a pursuit position leaves the CMX safe - it can then wait for the DNL to start coming around and then turn off in the opposite direction, getting the time and space to rearm.

Well, I have beaten the Klingon DX with a DNL, but i t was a very long battle that saw the DNL HET to pop the DX at point blank the impulse after the DNLs aft shield fell....was an all or nothing moove, and we had been danciing around each other for an hour befoore he got on my tail.

Congrats on beating the DX with a DNL, thats (IMO) a very hard fight, though winnable with luck or a skill mismatch. I don't know what the DX was doing that close, though :)

Certainly the DX is a harder opponent than the C5 (safe HET, turns better, much nicer arcs, more available power). Doesn't help in my search for tourney-level(*) ways to beat X-plasma with F/K/Z/L or X-F/K/Z/L with plasma, though.

(*) Yes, neurotically over-analysed examination of the fine detail of the ships, their preferred and viable strategies and how to counter them. Failing that, an offer to meet me online and show me ;-)

Well, I would play you online save two things. 1. It has been a few years since I played SFB regularly (F&E only these days, SFB just to keep track of ships for F&E) and 2. I do not play on SFBOL.

Tos: sift this file for anything usable and copy it into the new X1R file. Feel free to recruit help. I don't expect to have the luxury of doing so.
