Who ever said that?
I remember one proposal for ring phasers and a group of phasers sort of thing from module P6 in SVC musings over X2 possabilities.
So far as I know, X2 phasers aren't supposed to be anything.
What I was addressing was the very long discussions and developement that took place years ago. Ring phasers weren't part of that.
BTW: I would be part of the camp that would be against ring phasers, not to mention Paramount since ring phasers are decidedly TNG.
I'd also hate to see X2 go so munchkin as to start having Ph-1's as point defense. That would certainly not play nice with X0.

I think he mix up SFB with TNG:P

Actually the ring-firing phaser reference is from CL #37. See page 25 "SFB Module X2 will be second generation ships, the ones with the ring-firing phasers."
As to the PH-1 as PD phasers: I was thinking of the X2 version of a Fed CA which has two PH-3-360 and two PH-l-RH. The XCA with two PH-1-360 in the rear hull is similar to the CA. I would see (not that my opinion counts for much)the Fed XCA having four X2 photon torpedoes and the X2 ring-firing phaser in the saucer.
The PH-5 is a good idea. Another way of building the X2 phaser would be a combination of the X1 Phaser one and your Advanced Phaser Control (APC). For the range 9-15, One point of energy shifts the damage results bracket one to the left (6-8); would be the same for the other brackets. Also this could not be used at range eight and less of for Ph-3 shots.

Well, I can't argue that too much but I'm not sure we can hold SVC to that either. I doubt SVC has solidified how X2 phaser will work.
Hmm, sort of a DERFACS for phasers. That's an interesting thought.

I was assuming that ring-firing meant FX.
