I thought I would revive this thread to continue the discussion we were having in the Rules Q&A about Sabot Plasma being used by Fighters...

to recap, I had asked on the rules board about the power requirement for upgrading the Ds and Fs on fighters to sabot rounds due to the fact that the rules say that they do not enter into a scenerio with them loaded...
the answer was(and this is paraphrased, full answer is in "Rules"), yes, I did need to pay the power cost to upgrade the Ds to Dbs and that I could do that to those already loaded on the fighters, and yes, I did need to pay the power for the Fs, but I had to do it BEFORE the canister was loaded....
I then moved the topic over to the WHY side where it turned into a discussion instead of just a why question...

where the question came from was that we are going to play the Admiralty Camp. and I was looking to see how viable Gorn were with Sabot rounds... Main line ships would do very well as either the attacker or the defender, but I was having a hard time understanding the power needs for the fighters...

I guess I am looking to see if anyone else has experienced this and discuss what possible solutions there might be...

There is no need for a discussion of this issue. Petrick has given an answer which is complete, detailed, and accurate. The rule works the way it works because the technology works the way it works, and neither is going to be changed.

Sabots cost more and are useful only in certain cases. You cannot predict the future so DOCTRINE defines that all fighters are loaded with standard torpedoes and receive sabots only when the captain decides that the tactical situation requires it.

Further discussion is not warranted.
