This one falls in the catagory of obvious variants.

(R11.DW1) Lyran Light Patrol Carrier (DVP): When Klingon fighter advocates saw the plans for the Lyran Yaguarundi CVL, they noted that it would be possible for the Lyrans to perform the same modifications to the Leopard Destroyer, allowing the Lyrans to deploy a full fighter squadron on a destroyer hull. The Lyrans did not like the design, for the hull would be to easily destroyed, stranding a full fighter squadron. Proponents claimed the ship could be used away from enemy lines, patroling against pirates and raiders. Plus the ship could be upgraded to a CVL as needed. In the end, the Lyrans decided that it was simply better to build CVLs.

It was noted that the LDR also looked at the design, but like the Lyrans chose not to. In their case, they felt that if they were going to put the effort it required to make the conversion, they might as well make the heavier hull that they needed.

SVC or SPP: Just a quick question about carrier escort philosophy. A ship such as this, a size class 4 with 12 fighters, would it have one or two escorts? I know that most SC4 carriers have 1, but having a full squadron makes the carrier more valuable.

It's a point of comparison. The Uhlan is a true carrier and with 18 fighters it rates 3 escorts.

Your full-squadron Lyran certainly could rate two escorts.
