Saying 'because I don't like it, that's why'.

I should have asked this the first time I read that.

Ummmmmm.

How far removed is:-
I'm a player and I purchase products and if that was in the product, I wouldn't waste my money.
My money's important to me.

It doesn't sit well with me, or It's icky or other statements of EMOTION count when it comes to rules, because rules have to be BOUGHT, and the consummer masses are emotional creatures.

I'm not sure why folks worry about new/optional rules. Nobody forces anybody to play with all the rules (except in some sort of "official" Con or Tournament setting, I suppose). Use whichever rules you like and ignore the rest.

For example, with the folks I play:

Most battles are Y168 or ealier;
Only Hydrans have fighters and true carriers are not allowed;
PFs are not used;
Only the Kzinti can use drone bombardment ships;
EW is used;
Tactical information is not used;
Federation ships with drone racks can only use probe drones or ADDs;
Most "exotic" drones aren't used;
etc.

We're currently experimenting with restricting wild weasels and scatterpacks to the same conditions as using armed probes. If we do go with the restrictions, we'll probably disallow pseudo plasma as well.

So based on the above, yes, I'll never get Module K, or Module J2, or anything having to do with Carriers, etc. But that's fine, as I'll still get the various R modules that I don't have eventually, etc. so ADB still has plenty of stuff to sell me.

George. When I first saw my friend Dwight do that I laughed too. The he pounded me three games in a row. I am really NOT superstitious, but what can I say? It's too easy, so why not? :)

Wow...I've been away from this thread for awhile. A few things to say, then:

1: Loren, trust me; you aren't the only one superstitious about dice! I used to play both Risk and Axis and Allies quite alot, and my luck was appalling with both. One day it hit me; they both have different desirable rolls, but use the same dice. That is, in Risk you want high; in A&A, you want low. Sooooo, I switched the dice. Worked like a champ, and I never switched 'em back.

I don't know about the "attacking" part. That's subject to interpretation. I could define a post by Chad Calder where he told me "Please go read the ESG rules before trying to debate about their effectiveness." as an attack. On the face of it, it sounds pretty condescending in tone to me, but that's partly because I'm the recipient.

Alan, the types of things he refers to are blatant and insulting comments about people being either ignorant, stupid, or incompetent because they desire a rule change. Virtually anyone would see that as an attack. Your example is rude, perhaps, but not quite what I'd call an attack.

3: I have no desire to change the photon, but strongly believe anyone should be able to discuss it in peace. For example, the following:

Quote:

So why is it there can be no topic to discuss NOT changing the photon? That's just strange. Makes the entire topic of photon changes way too personal.

You are absolutely right; you should be able to discuss it all you like, without censure. By all means, then, go start a "leave the photon alone" thread; hell, I might even post in it, myself. But interrupting others posts with a continual litany of "it's fine, don't change it and stop whining" is neither constructive nor wanted. I assure you, were there a thread seriously suggesting a rate of fire increase for the disruptor, I'd disagree with it. I'd state my case, and then drop it. I would NOT simply blast away at someone or start boorish "joke" threads as a way to state my disagreement or contempt. Not saying you did that, Eric...not at all. But others have, and it's just in poor taste, IMHO.

Take a look at the Federation Tactics topic. You will see that the premise on which you entire argument is based is false - the Feds are not a overrun or retrograde race.

I'm not so sure about that. Certainly those are two winning Fed tactics. Even the rules in section (E3.0) talks about the Fed tactic of overruns. I quote: "Federation ships run in on the target and unload a devastating barrage of photon torpedoes, then must pull out of range and reload." You gotta admit, knocking the crap out of someone with four overloads is pretty to watch. But it's hard to do; the photon just isn't much of a finesse weapon. I like it, sure, but it does have some limitations, and some definate "best use" areas.

Whew...wow, that was a long post. Sorry for the length and all, but I had lots to catch up on.

George,
Once you ID the dice that always roll high, stick them in your RISK box. Only use them with RISK. Once you find hte ones that roll low, put them in the same bag/box as your Fed counters.

lol, consider it done :)

Dale told me about a guy who executed "that one die" by smashing it with a hammer. He did this front of his other dice as an example to show what happened to dies that either rolled too high or too low. This too is something to consider :)

Photons or dice; one of them's got to be changed!

Old thread... but the whole dice thing is one reason I've come to like drones... Let my opponent do the die rolling :)

Die-rolling.... I get it :)

LOL, it took George 15 months to get that joke.
Sorry George, I just had to say it. :)
