Is it possible to "test" custom ships created with the SSD Definition Tool on SFBOL without them actually being uploaded to the library?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, March 21, 2013 - 04:08 pm: Edit

Greg,
Yes. Use the "User-Defined Ship" in the "Other" tab on the "Piece Selection Dialog".

By Greg Bradburn (Midnite) on Thursday, March 21, 2013 - 04:20 pm: Edit

Thanks Paul. I see it now.

Do the old .def files still work or do we have to upgrade them using the new Graphical SSD Editor?

Also, the new tool doesn't seem to show the boxes filled in like the old one did. Could I be doing something wrong?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, March 21, 2013 - 06:48 pm: Edit

Greg,
Yes. You can still use the old def tool. Also, the new defs work differently. Then number inside the box decreases until it is down to 0.

And for the tracks, it just changes the number to be the current value for the track.

Do the new-style defs work? I was under the impression this was not ready yet.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Friday, March 22, 2013 - 05:19 pm: Edit

William,
They do not completely work. The only thing that works is viewing and damage allocation.

How do I create/specify counters to use with a custom ship?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, March 23, 2013 - 02:03 pm: Edit

Just need a square image, whatever size you want. Place it under the SFB library directory and then point to it when you add your "User Defined Ship"

By Greg Bradburn (Midnite) on Sunday, March 24, 2013 - 03:35 pm: Edit

I must be doing something wrong. I put a square image in my library folder and browse to it using the "..." button next to the "Enter ship counter-image filename:" field on the Generic Ship dialog that pops up when I add my user-defined-ship.

This is the counter image I was trying to use:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vdmcf2zc08eplxy/MyCtr.gif

It does not show my image but this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/g4fgc00t3rbud86/actual.jpg

Also, there are no turn/slip counters displayed when the unit moves.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, March 24, 2013 - 10:08 pm: Edit

The MyCtr.gif file is not available to look at.

But the actual.jpg image indicates that it could not find the counter file.

No turn/slip counters are probably that the race property is not set or set to an empire that is not known by the client.

By Greg Bradburn (Midnite) on Monday, March 25, 2013 - 05:52 pm: Edit

Ooops. I delete the file from my dropbox folder.

Here it is:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vdmcf2zc08eplxy/MyCtr.gif

I edited the ship definition and changed the race to Klingon, sill no turn/slip counters.

So just to clarify, here is what I did (in a Star Fleet Battles room):
- Add Piece Here
- Clicked Other tab, scrolled down and clicked User-defined ship.
- Entered a label name for the piece
- Used the "..." button on the Enter ship definition filename: field to browse to and select the ship definition from the Library\Sfb\Klingon folder.
- Used the "...' button on the Enter ship counter-image filename: field to browse to and select my counter image from the same folder.

It puts the generic "I don't know what this is" counter on the board and I get no turn/slip counters when I move.

Everything else looks good, EAF, SSD, etc.

So still no idea on why I can't see counters?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, March 30, 2013 - 10:25 am: Edit

Looks like there is bug in the client. I will need to look at this.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, March 30, 2013 - 11:08 am: Edit

Found the bug. It is now fixed and will be in the next update to the client.

Cool beans. Thanks Paul.

Minor correction to the Federation BTL. 2 of the Batteries were labelled Barracks. This is now fixed.

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Thursday, July 11, 2013 - 09:38 pm: Edit

Another ship like that is the Hydran SC, I'm not sure what the battery show up as but the EA form doesn't recognize them as battery.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Friday, July 12, 2013 - 05:28 am: Edit

Josh,
You are correct and now the Hydran SC is corrected.

By Matthew Potter (Neonpico) on Friday, July 12, 2013 - 12:00 pm: Edit

Paul! I have a def file for a unit unique to Another Way to Glory. Can I email it to you and have it included, please.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Friday, July 12, 2013 - 03:24 pm: Edit

Matt,
Sure.

Last post was 2013 and all problems were fixed. Can I delete the posts and leave the topic.
