I believe I can talk Greg_T and Neonpico into it.

The hardest part might be finding a time all 4 players can meet on SFBOL.

I think ill take a WYN AUX with HHBB options because it will support whatever my teammate wants to take. Ive asked Greg to be my teammate and he will probably want to take his noble Gorn TCC.

I might scream in on turn 1 with 15 points of tractor and try for an easy kill with my Gorn friends hundred points of plasma we should be able to wry havoc against anything we encounter.

If we can just find 2 more players we can try it with three person teams. Last ship alive wins but it will probably get to the point where we will call the game.

If we could find enough players we could make a league or tournament format and do it more competitively. For now I'm just looking to see if it works and how fun it is.

What will be the strongest pair of ships,. Is it two Klingon's or is it going to be some other combination like WYN and ISC. Some ships could be more useful in team play. The Federation for example suffers from lack of drone defense but when paired with a Hydran the problems dont seem so insurmountable but still you could be facing many drones in a team game.

Two Kzinti could put out 24 drones surely that will kill one Federation TCC.

The Masters will no doubt find the resulting carnage entertaining.

What ship do you want to take Spartan??

Sounds fun, I would be happy to team up with Geof for that.

Zero_G said he would try it at least once but not if its a tournament. So that's 5 already.

Crashandburn said he was in.

The problem is we want sfb tournament game type for the activity window will be familiar. But we can't add ships to a tournament game for some reason.

I think we should ask Paul for a new game type for multi player tournament games.

Somehow we need the ability to add other tournament ships to a game of SFBOL tournament after the game has started.

Currently you can only add the ship you selected in the client. We need the ability to select multiple ships per side and assign them to players in a tournament game type so the impulse activity is tournament standard.

The only way to play these games right now is in a regular sfb room.

I feel like a ISC/Hydran team would be fun...

Using the normal SFB game still has the SOP activity window, and the 18 Tournament ships to choose from.

Zero_G has to many Campaign scenarios at present, and when have time will then be looking to do NK battles.

all good

Well with five players we could do a few combinations to see it it's any fun.

I'm anxious to try it because the regular sfb ssds are so difficult to read at a glance.

At least what I'm proposing would utilize the best of the old style ships that are left to use for our games.

I don't mean to imply fault to those like myself who tried to make the 3rd gen ssds as great as they are. But compared to what we used to use they are a colossus of a bummer.

I can't really read them at a glance the way you can a proper ADB Trademark ssd can be. None of the boxes are in the right place and it's hard for me to read.

My solution is to try staging squadron battles with the only ships left that my eyes can easily see.

It's so hard to see what your ship has on the new ssds. I hope it isn't a forbidden topic but the current status of ssds in regular SFB is making it hard for me to get involved.

So let's use the ship definitions that are left and playable to get some good squadron actions going.

I just wish I could journey back in time and play a few more fleet battles with the ships as they were meant to be seen. I swear in 2010 when I discovered the sfbol client it was the most amazing thing. A tool perfect in its execution of the sequence of play of star fleet battles.

I logged on bored from playing other games just because I randomly searching found amarillo design beuro after about 20 years away from the game. It was great they taught me everything I know about the game which isn't much. It's a vast universe and I'm only an admirer of it.

I just wanted to have good battles online like we did in the past and the new ship displays are complicating things for me.

So let's use tournament ships they at least have not changed in 20 plus years.

I salute the valiant gamers currently using the new ssds you are steely eyed spaceman.

If there was a way to pay more and have it goto adb to liscence the old ssd library for the duration of my subscription I would gladly consider re paying for the use of the material online for our gaming on purposes. I bet others would want the upgraded artwork too. It is an upgrade over the 3rd generation in that it's in the form the publisher intended. The new are functional but very hard to read at a glance.

It's just a bummer about them and I realize my wanting things to change won't make it better.

So I love the tournament ships and we can have some lovely actions with them in teams preferably but I'm not opposed to command of multiple vessels. I can pilot many ships into an early grave as easily one ship.

I do miss the days of carriers and F5DK drone frigates. In my battle forces these days you would not find many 3rd gen ships because it's so hard to read them.

I would pay like 60 bucks more a year for the old ssds if I could only use them online. That's a significant amount for me but it in my mind would be worth it because it would give me unlimited copies of the ships online during my subscription.

All I really want is all the little things that make the sfu so intricate and beautiful like G2 police gumboots and the WYN use of auxiliary hills. I just wanted to ask how much it will cost to get my ships looking like proper ADB artwork should for extra money.

Sometimes to go forward requires one or more steps back. The way I understand it SSD books haven't been selling enough and one likely culprit was SFBOL. Something had to give and it was the SSDs that paid the price at least online.

The solution is simple buy more SSD books but the problem is the only place I can find games is online and I really want to get back into regular sfb with all the little things that make me happy like skids and soludra orange shards.

I will gladly pay the piper for access to the property of adb in the form of it's line drawings of ships.

Could regular sfb cost more so we could liscence the artwork for games by paying subscribers? That would be awesome if possible.

It would be the best Christmas gift you could give an old SFU junkie like myself. The gift of a year of proper ADB starships and all the carnage in game you can handle.

Joshua,

I think the old SSDs are not going to be on SFBOL (except for the tournament ships), the new ones are not that difficult to read and understand (if you want the old SSDs of the great game you love, than purchase the hard copies from ADB).

By Joshua Ivan Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 - 06:47 pm: Edit

I have but want to be able to play it online also since its so much easier to track drones and whatnot on the client.

I have trouble with the new ship displays and its not the fault of the powers that be. Im simply legally blind and the only way i was really able to play was to memorize where all the boxes are and the new ones dont have boxes placed where i would expect to see them.

My hope is that someday a 4th generation of SSDs can replace these things and we can all laugh at these third gen things.

In the meantime i was thinking of using the tournament ships for squadron battles since they are the old familiar ships i should have no problem.

Above & Beyond East [ABE] and Above and Beyond West [ABW] has a vacancy in each campaign.
ABE needs a Romulan Admiral and ABW needs a Lyran Admiral.

ABE is currently fighting out battles for T12 [Roms have 4 battles to resolve] and ABW just finished T11 and about to submit T12 orders.

Please note AB is a play test campaign. With input from the Admirals and onlookers, the rules are shaping up to be quite nice !!

Once AB has run its course [hoping to get 25-30 turns in !], I will launch the Time Wars campaign applying the AB final rules set.

Both campaigns[ABE and ABW] were started back in Nov of 2020.

Be prepared for a lot of battles as the rules do not allow for an easy escape.
We do have a stable of captains for hire should RL happen.

If interested, please ping me at my email.

Thanks.
Frank

Thanks.

Our multi-player campaign is starting up and we'll soon find ourselves needing proxy captains to play over SFBOL. It will primarily be fleet battles and base assaults, not duels.

Email me at Ginger dot McMurray at Gmail dot com if you're interested and I'll add you to our list.

Anyone interested in being a battle captain? I am playing a campaign game. With real life issues in my way. I have two battles both to be played on SFBOL. I am playing Paravians. A planet defense with a BSC with an HPM. Planet with 3 GSA and 3 GMS. A CC, CA and DW. VS 2 Hydran IRQs with St2s and a SRG with St2s;

Any one interested?

Greg, I might have the time, but I don't have the sim-expertise with fleet work in SFBOL, when does it need to happen?

By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Friday, March 10, 2023 - 06:21 pm: Edit
