(XMASP1.0) Santa Claus Versus the Humbugs
Year 196
by Kenneth Jones USS Arkansas

This showing of the classic “Santa Claus versus the Humbugs” is brought to you by the Federation Entertainment Network.

Santa is busy delivering toys to all the children on his Nice list Federation wide. When a force of Humbug ships jumps his XMas fleet and attempts to destroy all of the toys. To keep all the good children from having a wonderful Christmas.

The Federation Home Fleet intercepts Santa’s call for help, and rushes to his aid. To keep the Humbugs from destroying Christmas for all the children. A handful of ships arrive immediately. But others continue to trickle in as the battle continues.

The Humbugs are special Andromedan guest stars.

(XMASP13) LENGTH OF SCENARIO

Scenario continues until all forces belonging to one side have been destroyed, Captured or have disengaged.

(XMASP1.4) SPECIAL RULES

(XMASP1.41) Floating Map. Felis Navidad is a floating point on the map. Felis Navidad cannot be forced off the map. Any unit that makes a move that would force the planet Felis Navidad off the map is considered to have disengaged.
(XMASP1.411) A unit can disengage off the map without needing to move the planet Felis Navidad. The unit simply declares disengagement when it performs a move that would force the map to float. Note if two units move n the same direction off the map and one chooses disengagement and the other doesn’t both are still considered to have forced the map to float. If two (or more) units attempt to move off the map on the same impulse on opposite directions, both are considered to have disengaged.
(XMASP1.42) Shuttles and PF’s.
(XMASP1.421) Each ship has the number (and type) of fighters indicated for the year in question.

All fighters have Mega packs. All shuttles have Booster packs

(XMASP1.422) All ships that can carry an MRS shuttle are so equipped.

(XMASP1.43) COMMANDERS OPTIONS

The XMas and Federation and Humbug ships may purchase Commanders options up to 20% of its combat BPV.

(XMASP1.44) All ships are fully refitted.

(XMASP1.45) Legendary Officers are included in this scenario for Federation and XMas forces.

(XMASP1.451) Santa and his Full compliment of Legendary Officers aboard his SCS must be tracked to determine if damage kills them. Santa cannot Bluff his way to victory. Santa's putting on naughty list does not decrease the Humbus crew level or legendary officers.

(XMASP1.46) REINFORCEMENTS: The Federation and XMas forces will receive reinforcements at the scheduled rate.

Turn 2: NCL Ramadan
Turn 5: BCJ New Jersey
Turn7: DW Pundy
Turn 13 SCS George Washington (12 F14DM, 12 F18CM, 6 A20FM, 2 E3A, 2 A-MRS,) NAE Soult, NAC Horner, DWA Hamilton

(XMASP1.461) If reinforcements will place the combined Federation XMas force over the maximum Command rating of the surviving units.Tthe reinforcements will be delayed, and will continue being delayed until there is room in the command rating for the reinforcing ship. The ships arrive in order.

(XMASP1.5) VICTORY CONDITIONS

The Humbugs have to destroy Santa by any means possible. Santa’s position is tracked as other Legendary Officers. If he is killed in action the Humbugs win a decisive victory.

If Santa is forced to disengage the Humbugs win a Major Victory. All other results result in a combined XMas Federation victory.

(XMASP1.6) As a variation, substitute Klingon ships for the Federation Forces using the nearest equivalent ship.

(XMASP1.61) For a smaller battle simply use the Dominator “Big Bad Wolf” and it’s satellite ships, substituting an Anaconda for one of the Mamba‘s. Against the SCS and the CX Paris Commune.

(XMASP1.7) BALANCE
There are no current balancing factors.

(XMASP1.8) TACTICS

The XMas and Federation forces must seek to destroy Humbug ships before they can deploy their satellite ships. By combining overwhelming firepower.
Humbug’s must seek to exploit the pervalence of Displacement devices that the poor Andromedans can’t even conceive of.

(XMASP1.9) PLAYTESTER COMMENTS.
Well?

(XMASP1.X) HISTORICAL OUT COME.
This concludes the Federation Entertainment Networks annual showing of Santa Claus versus the Humbugs. Once again Santa gets the toys through and the children of the Federation will wake up and have toy's Christmas morning.

DESIGNERS NOTES:
The XMas forces SSD's will be on this web page until after new years when I will be taking them down for the year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This looks like it's going to be fun. How about an optional weapon for the railguns like the dreaded photon fruitcake? When it comes in contact with power absorbers or shields, the energy can't be dissipated or shields repaired for several turns? Phasers become unusable for several turns while debris is cleared from the weapons ports. Maybe giant cork launchers that seek opposing ship weapon or launch tubes and plug them? Yes, this looks like fun. Thanks, Kludge.

Can ther Fed SCS actually carry its shuttle compliment (I thought it usually had two E2C, not the heavy E3A)?

Also, the issue of legendary officers and outstanding crew is confusig since the sleigh is the only ship that has them specified.

Otherwise it looks fun for a group with the time to play it...

By Bennett Eugene Snyder (Planner) on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 10:40 am: Edit

One of the actors in a supporting role could be the 23rd century descendant of Pia Zadora (Santa Claus Conquers the Martians).

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 08:42 pm: Edit

That was a goof. The Fed SCS does have an E2 instead of an E3.

RE: Legendary Officers.
Each ship CAN have Legendary Officer/Outstanding Crew if rolled for. within the normal rules. IF they are allowed to. And only if both players agree to use those rules. Snata's Sleigh is an exception to rolling/rules but can only use Legendary Officers/Outstanding Crew if both players agree to using the L.O./Crew rules.

RE: Fruitcake.
What kind of Maniac are you? The use of Fruitcake in such a roll is specifically forbidden by the Organian treaty. There have to be some things that empires won't stoop to. And Fruitcake tops the list:)

By Bennett Eugene Snyder (Planner) on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 08:57 pm: Edit

There are kinds of maniacs? Verry interesting. Okay, if not fruitcake, how about sugar plums or candy canes as drones?

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 09:06 pm: Edit

Uhm if I had ever gotten around to it the Reindeer would have been Reindeer PFs (I cheated and let any PF or fighter standin) and the fighters would have been candycanes. But I just didn't have the time.

*Note: XMas ships can use almost any kind of weapon. Even a bunch of them that normally can't be used. Just as long as it fits the ship and the ships mission. I meant look at the ships.

What about Andromedan Nice Children? Where's their share?

*sniff*

Merlin

P.S. Nice job Ken :).

I have to look at the SSDs again, but I think Santa's ships would probably get at least 3 free HETs. Maybe an A movement, regardless of size class.

KLUDGE:

Just when I thought that no one could come up with anything goofier or crazy like Donald Millers Space Hamster you come up with this Christmas Scenario. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT MAN!!!!.
I just printed off the SSD's and the scenario rules and I will be playing this instead of another scenario that I had cooked up for my annual Christmas Day SFB blow out game.

I will be posting a scenario sometime in the future that has a definate ring in it about a present day situation. It is called "THE HUNT FOR SANKA FIN LADEL". A little play on words about a real life issue.

Just thought I would get on and let you know I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THE SCENARIO!!!!!!!.

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 - 04:34 pm: Edit

Ho Ho Ho Check out the scenario above:)

Just a friendly holiday reminder:O

Methinks I've spotted a Christmas SPAM right their!!

Why yes I have, gunner, set phasers to Sizzle, and fire!!

((Hmmm, some Christmas spam for dinner....))

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 - 04:43 pm: Edit

Hmm Red and Green spam....

Why not? It's not much different than the regular type:)

By F. Michael Miller (Fmm) on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 - 04:58 pm: Edit

I knew a piano player who played for lots of local musicals. If she didn't like the show, she insisted that her name be listed in the program as "Felice Navidad".

Marilyn, where are you?

By John Erwin Hacker (Godzillaking) on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 02:03 pm: Edit

KLUDGE:

Are you going to do a P/F for the front of the sleigh?. How about the lead P/F have a RED NOSE (hehehehehehehe).

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL FROM THE CRAZIEST GORN OUT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 02:18 pm: Edit

John the 1 Scout allowed in the Flotilla does tend to glow Red on the front:)

I may get arund to doing the PF's that I want. Or I might not. But just think 4 engines/legs and antler weapon systems:O

By Bennett Eugene Snyder (Planner) on Friday, December 17, 2004 - 11:07 pm: Edit

Thought of the equivalent to the web caster. The Tinsel Shotgun! It provides ECM when fired, when it hits a shield, it causes electrostatic shock along the target's hull as it wraps around it, clogs up hydrogen collectors so the warp drive gets no fuel, and almost impossible to remove.
