Please, if there is anybody who have devised some solitaire rules to play Starfleet Battles, contact me.
Thank you!

Stefano. The Cadet Training Handbook has some basic "robot" rules.

If you are simply lacking opponents, then I recommend Star Fleet Battles Online (www.sfbonline.com). For about 35 Euros per year you can play online 24 hours a day with players across the globe. There are numerous European players online and, if you are new to the game, there are many players who would be willing to work with you as well as opportunities to participate in multiship battles (which are good learning environments).

Thank you Andy!
Right now i am just finishing the Cadet Training Handbook, and i am using some personal house rules to play the scenarios solitaire, because the robot rules are, in effect, very basic.
I think i will try Starfleet Battles Online, where i could learn the rules, as you say, even if i sincerely prefer to play solitaire: perhaps this sounds very strange to you ?

Stefano. To be honest, SFB does not lend itself well to solitaire play. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of decision points in each game, all of which are based upon your assumptions (based upon observations, etc.) of what your opponent will do. By making those decisions on both sides or by following a "robot" plan, you are losing a key part of the flavor of the game. By using a random method to control the "robot" ship, you not only lose the flavor but would be forced to pick up bad habits.

Stefano,

Please consider SFB On-Line. It is the single best thing I did to get back into SFB and improve my skills. There are dozens of players on SFB On-Line and skills range from multipe-aces and Origins winners to complete novices who are just learning the game. You'll be able to play tournament games and there are several campaigns going on. Better than PBEM and anything you would do on your own.

By the way, you can use SFB On-Line with a demo account without paying however, you will be restricted to playing tournament style only and limited to either the Fed or Klingon ships. Well worth a try and the very reasonable $40/year subscription.

Andy, i thank you for your suggestions. I will consider to subscribe to SFB Online.

There's always the StarFleetCommand pc game series.

The problem with SFC (as I see it) is that it gets you used to a much faster pace than SFB. We had an SFC player in our group (for a very short time) who just couldn't get into the board game because it "moves too slow"
I prefer a thinking game to a twitch-fest, but that's just me.

All true, but it is still an option for SFB-like solo action.

If you don't have steady internet and outside of advanced missions, basic set, and the robot rules, are there any other solo scenarios available or in the works?

By jason kent (Jaxjason) on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - 01:06 pm: Edit

Chris:
The scenario books have a few extra solo scenarios. they look pretty good to me. Haven't gotten to play them yet, but both books 1 & 2 are sale for $5US a piece right now. I think they are going out of print.

SFBOL: You will definitely need someone experienced with SFB Online to play with, before venturing into it. I have given up two or three times now trying on my own.

Make sure you know the basic rules first, i.e. you have gotten to at least the double digit scenarios in the cadet book before you go online.

Hi Jason,

I just checked with SVC and the scenario books are not going out of print. Right now, there is a surplus of those two books, so that explains the lower price.

With print on demand, nothing has to go out of print unless it is replaced or updated with new material. That is good for both new people and that person who just spilled (or whose cat just knocked over) his favorite beverage on a book.

Its very cold here, so I was thinking to set up and play "Raid on a mining planet."

Where the heck is it? CL3, S2?

I could swear its in a new(ish) product...

"Raid on a Mining Planet" is in CL3, p.16.

That issue also contained "Raid on a Farming Planet."

CL2 has "The Combining of Arastoz" on p.40 that you might want to check out.

I miss playing SFB so been thinking about some solo play. One of my favorite solo scenarios was SH4.0 Cruise Drones. You play a Klingon F5 Frigate defending a Small Freighter form a large random number of Kzinti Typ-III-XX Drone. It is a fairly straight forward tactical challenge. Does anyone have any suggestions for using a Frigate from a different Empire and/or substituting a different seeking weapon for the Kzinti drones? I wouldn't mind using or learning Omega or Magellanic or other empires in this scenario, but I am unsure what would be a good fit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Shawn. If you are willing to play Omega, it offers plenty of variation for (SH4.0).

Substituting Different Seeking Weapons for Kzinti Drones: You could try using Tachyon Missiles (from the Maesron) for variation. They are ultra-modular, so you could customize them as needed to make the scenario challenging.

Different Empires That You Can Use For Variation:

KOLIGAHR - The Antimatter Cloud Generator will create some interesting tactical variations. I would recommend to use either the Koligahr Solidarity Destroyer (BPV 88, 1 ACG) or the Koligahr Solidarity Fighter Killer (BPV 75, 2 ACG).

CHLOROPHON - The Subspace Coagulator (Spore Caster) will create some interesting tactical variations. I would recommend to use either the Chlorophon Association Frigate (BPV 70, 1 SC) or the Chlorophon Association Destroyer Escort (BPV 84, 2 SC).

ALUNDA - The Attraction/Repulsion Fields will create some interesting tactical variations. I would recommend to use either the Alunda Host Tracker (BPV 74, 1 ARF) or the Alunda Host Devourer Escort (BPV 98, 3 ARF).

HIVERS - Might be interesting if you are willing to use their fighters.

SIGVIRION - Might be interesting with the Pulse Emitters and the Kinetic Wave Generators (which do maximum damage at mid range). Not sure why it would be protecting the frigate though...

FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF AURORA - The Short Range Cannon might make the scenario interesting.

RYN - The Quantum Transporters used for movement can really make this scenario intersting.

BOLOSCO - The Integrated Warp Tractors can create a Pressure Field which can make the scenario interesting.

BRANTHODON - The Dragonships can make this scenario very interesting. I would recommend to use either the Branthodon Hatchling Dragonship (BPV 50) or the Branthodon Very Young Dragonship (BPV 72).
