Something similar was once proposed for new scenario books (which is basically what you are proposing a whole book of scenarios dealing with ________).

The thing is Scenario Book #1 and Book #2 aren't that great of sellers according to SVC (which I don't doubt).

So you are proposing a product that doesn't have a large potential for huge sales that takes as much work to create as an R-Module (that does sell well). It comes down to a question of manhours of SVC/SPP to create this verses the ammount expected in sales.

The other thing is getting enough scenarios written for it. It can't all fall to SPP to write all of them (even if he can turn out SFB pages like no-ones business), and there are few scenario writers out their that would want to create mini-campaigns as some of these would require.

Scott:

I think you're missing the point.

The Taros Campaign book I refer to is over 300 pages long - with a page breakdown you can see at this page.

Out of that amount of pages, over a hundred cover the writeup of the war itself. Over a hundred more pages cover the various land, air and space craft used by the opposing factions.

Only about 40 pages cover actual game material - and of those pages, only 16 feature actual game scenarios. The rest cover rules for various army lists, that sort of thing.

So most of the book would look like one of Osprey Publishing's campaign books - but with the game material added at the end.

Now, the books that could be done for the SFU need not be this kind of length at all - but if the core of the book involves the detailed campaign background, as well as the art for the various ships (basically what would otherwise go into the Leanna's Fighting Starships book, Neale has been putting some great examples of such art together) and features a reasonably-sized series of scenarios that relate to the material included, it could work.

And I said SFU scenarios, not just SFB - one could draw from the gamers and enthusiasts for PD, FC, F&E and SFB (and Star Fleet Assault, if it gets published by then) to contribute to the project. (Just as IA3 does - its scenarios are not all just for 40K, but for Epic and Battlefleet Gothic, as well.)

Bear in mind that IA3 itself is not cheap (it's hardback, most of the pages are colour, with a lot of art included), but is still a success. An SFU book need not cost nearly as much, yet still do the job required.

Again, see the sample pages I linked to in the previous post, to see what I am referring to. (Or, better yet, see if a local game store or GW hobby centre has a copy of IA3 to show you - it's a beautiful book.)

Very nice. A mockup for LFS I assume?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 05:00 pm: Edit

No, LFS is a separate product (and not done in color as it would cost over $100 retail per book if we did it that way). As the post says, this is one month of the CALENDAR.

SVC, there seems to be a kind of creping obesity regarding ur ships:)
The Original B-10 in CL#6 had measurements and mass like that above.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 06:26 pm: Edit

I am pretty sure those numbers are "placeholders". At least, they did not come from ADB.

The point is... would anybody buy a calendar with 16 or 18 of those pictures?

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Thursday, March 22, 2007 - 08:32 am: Edit

Oh, yes, I'd buy one. But I'd want the data to be "right". Or at least "close enough". {grin}
