Tos: I got your memo. You had a good idea! If we just copy the excel dataline from the G2 file onto each SSD page, it would include ALL of the data for the ship in one row. This would allow us to remove things like breakdown and BPV from the ship data table. Surely, Petrick cannot object to REMOVING data which doesn't require checking anything! Brilliant! And of course, the data would automatically link and update when we do G3.

Blank Crawford boxes works for me. Actually, that works better than having the data in it for the racial book, IMO (since the data sometimes changes).

Blank is fine, for me all of the SSDs in one location is great.

SVC:
How do you want people to refer to the new "dataline from G2 file" addition to the SSD's?
Is it the "New and improved Crawford Boxes"?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 - 01:57 pm: Edit |
Blank is not workable.
The "Crawford Row"?
The "Crawford Track"?
The "Crawford Rack"?

Crawford Track.
And perhaps he can make a field trip to your office to do the OLE!

OLE = On Line Execution?

However it is put together as a book is fine. I'm along for the ride.

Object Linking and Embedding.
Sorta of an automatic crosslinking of the data FROM a data file (the Annex stuff) to the objective (the Crawford Track). This is the same kind of thing that is used to write "automatic letters" and such. Access and Excel basically are born to do this stuff, though there is a word function that does the same thing. I am sure there is a guru here that could do it instantly.
I think you should INVITE him to come build your "new building" while you get this stuff coded.
BUT, I admit ZERO knowledge of how this would work in a .pdf file.

.pdf files (through Adobe Acrobat) should have an interface to OLE as well. That's why they added that 'Adobe Javascript' if memory serves me correctly. Should be just as simple as using OLE with the other Microsoft apps.

Why do I forsee a new chapter in the Crawford story coming?

So, you're putting Crawford on the rack??

It may be a new chapter in the Crawford story... but will it necessarily have a happy ending?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 - 10:48 am: Edit |
Happy for whom? Petrick?
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 - 03:06 pm: Edit |
Good question...
What's more important? A 'Happy' Petrick or a live Tos who provides that necessary little bit of "variation" that makes life more interesting?
What would Barnum be without Bailey? Smith without Jones? or perhaps (more accurately) Holmes without Moriaty? Batman without his Ridler or Supermann wiothout Lex Luthor?
I imagine that Petrick without Tos would have to invent a new Tos somewhere down the road in a sort of "Yin and Yang" thing.

I thought hew was gonna say Smith without Wesson.
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 - 05:44 pm: Edit |
That works too!
SVC once mentioned that Petrick has a gun, (IIRC) and I am not sure what manufacturer SPP favors... it would be cruel to force him to choose between gunsmiths, if they are his favored vendors for such equipment! That is like parents in a divorce dividing up the children and family pets.

+++A+++ gun? One? He has at least 14. I only have seven.

New Product:
Guide to the SFU:
As discussed in another topic, a complete background guide to all the SFU races. Maybe Omega and such are a second product.
What they look like, ranks and such. For example, Kzinti have ranks that include Captain 2nd class...
Racial idenity issues, like government organization. Ex: Klingons are a Free Market Military Dictatorship...
MOST of this would be "cut and pasted" from other products. But it would be nice to have it all compiled

Option Package #1 (Close Quarters):
Long Arm: 12 Gauge Shotgun (folding stock)
Side Arm: .44 Magnum
Blade: Machette
Option Package #2 (Long Range rapid fire):
Long Arm: M1 Garand
Side Arm: M1911
Blade: Hunting Knife
Option Package #3 (Long range slow fire):
Long Arm: Mauser Kar 98K
Side Arm: .38
Blade: Bayonette.
Option Package #4 (Target Practice):
Long Arm: .22 Rifle
Side Arm: .22 Pistol
Blade: Hatchet
Option Package #5 (Weapon for all seasons):
Long Arm: Ruger Mini 14
Side Arm: None, but perhaps one day I will break down and get some kind of 9mm. Problem is that I do not like throwing a lot of little bullets when one bullet can do the job (the .22s are only there for target practice).
Blade: Axe
General Comment:
As a rule my preference runs to the Mini-14 and the M1911 if I needed to move even though I normally match the M1911 with the M1. But in my mind I match the weapons I possess as indicated.
So no one need be concerned, I only have 9 firearms, not the 14 SVC suggested.
And, yes, I have both an Axe and a hatchett, as well as two extra hunting knives and an Entrenching tool (which can make an expedient and serviceable battle axe if you know what you are doing).

What you really need is a SKS (they are cheap and you can get 30 round mags) and a glock (they need almost no maintenence).
Plus a leatherman (like a Blast).
