I would think the bladed weapons for options 1 & 2 would be swapped. I would think a hunting knife better for close combat and a Machette better for long range

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, May 31, 2007 - 04:05 pm: Edit

If this bladed weapon is not a new SFU product, get it out of this topic.

Perhaps a guide to bladed weapons by race:

Start with the infamous Locknar from "career man" and move on...

Why not a GURPS Prime Directive weapons guide?

Sure the Federtaion section would be the biggest using scads of "real life" type items... but the other races should have commonly appearing weapons... some of which might well be similar to certain "real world" historical examples...

Would there be a market for such a thing... and how would it differ from things published by SJG's?

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Friday, June 01, 2007 - 01:03 am: Edit

I was thinking along the same lines recently, Jeff. In the GURPS products, the guns are just a simple name and some stats, e.g. "Heavy Disruptor Rifle". If I'm playing an RPG, I want some flavour, e.g. "Klingon Army Y167 pattern heavy disruptor rifle, or KA-167". It'd be a good subject for a historical monograph in Cap Log - "Famous weapons of the SFU".

Terry, I could see the article being of interest to many people.

Just looking at pages #85 to #90 of the GURPS KLINGON book (poduct number 8003 I think) lists lots of swords, daggers, one handed weapons and two handed disruptors & others things that would be a excellant start for a CL artcle.

I know this comes up every now and then, but I'll throw it out there again: I would pay a considerable amount for a Chessex-style standard size SFB map. Anyone else?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 03:59 pm: Edit

I have no idea what a "chessex style map" is.

By Ken Lin (Old_School) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:03 pm: Edit

It's a high-quality vinyl map. I know some of the people who play with minis use them, but I'd be interested in a standard-size one, with the correct dimensions, with the correct hex numbers, the "A-F" and "1-6" directional markings, and maybe the usual starfield background? Basically I'm looking for the standard SFB map - on high quality vinyl.

I'd buy one or two

By Michael Powers (Mtpowers) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:22 pm: Edit

Duh. It's like cheese, only with X-technology.

By Tim Bunch (Crimin) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:29 pm: Edit

I used to use a battlemat to play SFB with counters. Since it was tan, you could draw the slip and turn points on it and have less counters on the board to keep track of.

By Ken Lin (Old_School) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:32 pm: Edit

Hmmm, I have to say I did not get the cheese with X-tech comment. :)

By Tim Losberg (Krager) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:43 pm: Edit

Chessex= Cheese+X
(not sure if I should be frightened that I instantly picked up on that or not) :)

Doh!

SVC: This was one of the things I was supposed to ask you about once you got back from Origins. You have the vynal versions of the F&E stuff and I was wondering if you could get a vynal SFB map made but with 7/8ths inch hexes. The dark blue with stars would be great and the hex size doesn't have to be exact but just bigger than the standard SFB map please.

I think what Ken Lin would like is a standard SFB map with 1.5" or 1" hexes on vynal. You'd be able to play touney with minis on such a map.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:48 pm: Edit

Ok, I can make that happen. Solid black or with a NASA photo?

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:51 pm: Edit

Be careful with writing on the Vinyl maps. Not all Vis-A-Vis wet earse markers wipe off the map when dry.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:51 pm: Edit

I have the graphic and they can print 4230s in any size you want. We just have to find a name for them other than "large" and "extreme" and "billboard".

By Ken Lin (Old_School) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 04:55 pm: Edit

Actually, that is specifically what I do not want. I am interested in one that is the exact same size as a standard SFB map (not for minis).

By Todd Jolley (Tjolley) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 05:11 pm: Edit

SVC..The laminated map I had at Origins was from the PDF of the standard map you have on the site that I cobbled together and overlaid with a NASA photo (Carina Nebula) with 1" hexes.

Maybe:
"4230 - Tournament" (for the standard size mat)
"4230 - Miniatures" (mat with 1" hexes)

The material used by Chessex is really nice. I do like it better than the Vinyl used on the F&E map I have, but not sure you can get the same stuff or not.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 05:55 pm: Edit

Miniatures usually get 1.25 inch, but like I said, it can be any scale you want. I just need to know if you want black or starfield.

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 06:17 pm: Edit

I'd like starfield on a very very dark blue (not black), and would love 1.5" (minis standard scale) hexes, and can live with 1.25".

I'd prefer the A-F rosette be in the center of the map (around hex 2215), or having it centered on hex 1415 and the 1-6 rosette centered around hex 2815.

We sell the felt battle maps from Monday Knight, and have found that they run very slow on restocking, so being able to put up an inventory of them we could re-sell would be good.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - 06:30 pm: Edit

Same an what Ken Burnside said: Dark Blue with stars. With 7/8" hexes could we call it "4230- Tourny plus"

I would like both the minis version and the plus size version.

3/4" hexes will work great instead of 7/8". My mistake but I just measured the actualy map I have that works great for 1/2" counters.

So, 4230- Tourney Plus (3/4" hexes), dark blue with star field, please.

I'm with Ken Lin.
