And what is the count of major and minor planets?
By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Sunday, December 21, 2014 - 01:29 pm: Edit |
Michael, I do have that, but I need to look up the ISC to complete the list.

SVC: Mind if I post a map of all the colony worlds and such from the gazetteer? No name-labels, just a circle to show the location.

You can send it to me and I will post it for you.

Thanks. It's on its way now.

For anyone who cares, the map I asked about above has been posted:
http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/F&EDocuments/F-E_map_colonies.pdf
1) The open circles indicate there is something listed in the Gazetteer in that hex. In some cases, there is more than one something there, but I didn't try to put two icons in the hex.
2) I believe there are a couple of items co-located with a Starbase (and the Tholian Dyson Sphere), but I could not fit the icon in the hex and simply left it out.
3) I doubt anyone at ADB has error-checked the map, so any icons missing / wrong place are my fault, not ADB's. Ergo, don't yell at them if you find an error.
4) As to the base map itself, I have long forgotten where I acquired it from. I have searched and cannot find the original website from which I "borrowed" it. I make no claim to the artwork and will gladly concede rightful credit to the true artist.

That is a real useful map!
By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, January 17, 2015 - 01:24 am: Edit |
Glad someone else found it interesting. I'm not sure how useful it is for game play, but it might come in handy when writing a fiction story and/or planning a Prime Directive campaign.

I sorry Garth, I should have posted my appreciation for the map earlier when I opened it and then promptly saved it to my computer.

Nice map.

pretty cool!

Cool, I also made a rough draft of this thing in the CB last release (or two ago?) using the listed data up to whatever point it was posted in 2013. It would be cool to check them against each other to see how much, if anything, has changed.

SVC/ Gary Carney: Do we have any idea where the Aurora colony used to be, before it disappeared from Federation space? I seem to recall reading that it was the "most coreward colony" at the time. Does that mean it was off the top of the F&E map, or in one of the xx01 hexes?

Gary can pick that one.

I like the F&E map, very interesting.
By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Saturday, December 02, 2017 - 04:52 pm: Edit |
I would propose having the original location of the Aurora star system be in the "off-map" Survey Area, perhaps somewhere between five hundred to a thousand parsecs coreward of F&E hex 2901.
On a side note, I wonder if (or when) Aurora III would have reached major or minor planet status had it remained in Federation space - or how many additional "off-map" provinces the UFP might have developed by Y171, had the expansion project originally planned for the Y130s gone ahead.
Also, I have a couple of thoughts on where the "pre-transfer" locations of Kraknora and PX 123 might have been, but I'm hoping to put those ideas into a document which might provide these locations with their appropriate respective context.
By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, December 02, 2017 - 10:25 pm: Edit |
Gary, that's kind of where I was thinking it should go, somewhere off-map one to three hexes north of some row 25xx to 32xx. I figured it didn't necessarily need to be in row 29xx.

Some proofreading notes on the 3/26/17 edition, which I think is the latest. Mostly trivial but since I had the notes I felt I should post them for the record.
"Battlestatin R10" should probably be "Battlestation R10".
Calenda-III is referenced in SH181, but as a planet in the *Klingon* neutral zone where the Klingons ambushed NCL Renown carrying plague relief supplies. The description "Small mining planet in Federation-Romulan neutral zone. Romulans made unsuccessful attempt to capture it in Y172." fits the unnamed planet in SH182. Probably these somehow got confused.
Chicago is described as an "indistrial" world, should probably be "industrial".
The Cotton Candy Nebula entry should probably read "GVX USS Colin Powell encountered first recorded example of a space manta, and was heavily damaged in the process (SL282)." correcting a couple minor typos.
"Earths" should probably be "Earth's" in the Culden-Feyr entry.
In the Cygnus entry, "conceeded" should probably be "conceded".
Deiana entry should probably reference "Western Worlds" vice "Wetern Worlds".
Diablo Asteroid Field; "naviational feature" should probably be "Navigational feature".
Fnanina; "the" should probably be "they".
The listing for Gijard III references SH176, but SH176 "Kobol's Rock" is a Klingo-Kzinti battle on the other side of the Octant. The reference was probably meant to be to SH28 in the same module (M).
Iridima; refers to the Second Federation-Kzinti War when it should probably the Second Federation-Klingon War. I don't have CL37 but 1912 is a long way from Kzinti space.
The planet called Kindlai in the Gazetteer is Klindai on the Large Scale Map.
Are MS965 and MS-965 two separate places, or should the entries be combined?
Morkedia III; "primative" should probably be "primitive". The Morkedia III entry in PD Feds references the Kzinti mining planet Kzmarn which should probably be added as PD Feds is marked as completed for the Gazetteer; I suggest "Kzinti mining colony. Analogue to Morkedia III and Vespasia." as the description and "Unknown; Kzinti Space" as the location.
Nashville; "CL227" probably won't be printed for a while yet. I'm not clear if the reference should be to CL27 or SL227 or something else.
"Phylos" is spelled "Phyllos" in the referenced fiction story.
"R'ehhaknnizah/lohna" should probably be "R'ehhaknnizah'lohna" for consistency with PD Feds.
"tallalennakk'haom" should probably be capitalized.
Revlis; the second reference to "Romulan" should probably be "Romulans".
Scylla-Charybdis; "dangerous navigational" is misspelled "dangeorus naviational"
Sentria; "Primative" should probably be "Primitive".
Sapphirex; "Populaton" should probably be "Population".
Tellarite Prime; the PD Federation entry describes the star name as "Hahrnohk" rather than "Tellar".
The third "Unnamed" entry has an extraneous space.
"Vanecheck" and "Vanecheck IV" are "Vanecek" and "Vanecek VI" in the referenced scenario (orignally SL28 in CL2, republished for Doomsday as SH50 in S1). PD Feds uses "Vanecheck", however.

A couple of notes from the Federal Republic of Aurora update file in Captain's Log #53, for the 2019 edition of the Gazetteer posted here:
Kraknora: Currently listed as Hex # "Unknown; Klingon space". According to the CL53 FRA update file, its location prior to its transfer to the Omega Octant in Y171 was in F&E hex 1111. Kraknora itself is noted as being a Class-L planet.
PX 123: Currently listed as Hex # "Unknown". According to the CL53 FRA update file, its location prior to its transfer to the Omega Octant in Y178 was in the "off-map" ISC Distant Zone. PX 123-IV is noted as being a borderline Class-M/Class-N planet; PX 123-V is noted as being a class-R planet.
