Any idea how many stores stock stuff? Is that a trade secret? Just curious.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, November 27, 2025 - 09:26 pm: Edit
I don't know. Jean might. Most local game stores were put out of business by online discounters.

Well, that was fun. The burglar alarm company called at 12:30am and said that the motion detector in the center hallway at ADB was reporting someone inside the office. They had sent the cops and an armed security guard. I was in the sweat pants and sweatshirt I sleep in, so I pulled on some shoes, grabbed my keys and my wallet and drove north. I met the security guy who had sent the cops back to their patrol after determining that both doors were secure. I unlocked the door, the security guy looked in and saw nothing amiss, so he entered and I followed. Nobody there, nothing amiss. We checked everything, chatted a bit, I locked up and went home, he went back on patrol. No idea what happened.

Do you still have any little Lyran guard cats there? Maybe they set off the motion detection.
Also, I've even seen lighting changes and dust particles set off camera based motion detection. Not sure what your setup is there, but if you have camera motion sensing, it may have been the culprit.

When I was working electrical construction, many places had motion sensor light switches. If they were too close to air conditioning vents, the chill would increase their sensitivity to being triggered by the movement of the cold air.
That problem was frequently compounded by Physics; cold, dry air is denser than warm, wet air, so it can sometimes register on otherwise ignorant sensors.
How cold was it overnight in your office? Maybe the alarm was accidentally set off by cold air movement in the building...

All theories we have already considered, but none could be proven.

FELLINI: Now, look, Mister. You and I had better start communicating. I want to know how you got in here. That's a simple question. Give me a simple answer. Nobody saw you. You got all the way inside without tripping any alarm. How did you do it?
KIRK: Believe me, Colonel, you wouldn't believe me.
FELLINI: Don't try to be funny. How did you get in?
KIRK: I popped in out of thin air.
FELLINI: You seem to think this is some kind of a game.
KIRK: No, Colonel. I know it's no game.
FELLINI: All right. What did you say your name was?
KIRK: For the fourth time, my name is James T. Kirk.
FELLINI: And how did you get inside a top security installation, James T. Kirk?
KIRK: I told you, you wouldn't believe me.

May be Kirk wants his Air Force computer tapes back.

It's really the only explanation that makes any sense.

I tell you, ADB should bring back the Slirdarian Security Squad!
They handled all of the on property issues, took care of pests, kept the occasional groupie secured until management took over and they worked for banana berries.
I miss those apes, they even got pretty good at checkers.
Its a real shame that some snitch tipped off the State wage and hour commissioner.

Phone and internet service at the office is down, we do not yet know why, nor do we know when it will get fixed. So if you are trying to call or are expecting answers to an email you may have to exercise some patience. I am scrambling to find a way to blame this mess on Russia, Iran, or maybe California. Stay tuned.
Steve Petrick probably won’t get to the office today due to a broken water main at the site of his life sustaining medical treatment that was scheduled for this morning.
I am suffering from increased dizziness and difficulty in just walking around although I seem perfectly fine if I stay sitting down.
Sigh.
Wars and Rumors of wars.
An interesting time for everyone.

8 JANUARY 2026
For the first time in weeks, all of us were in the office at the same time. I decided to call a much needed staff meeting. I discussed and sought updates on various projects. Some will or might be released next week; some will be part of a second release perhaps in February. The projects included:
CIVIL WARS: When Jean gets the proofreading done, I will finish the rulebook. Steve Petrick finished his review and Ryan said he would update the SIT as Petrick had noted. I need to update the WYN CLUSTER MAP. I contacted Chuck about technical details on two maps and contacted Matt Lawson about the cover. The counters are due tomorrow. I want to push this into the January release batch.
STARMADA: RUMORS OF WARS
Jean presented the cover done by Simone and I approved it except for the stock # Jean needs to assign. This could be ready for PDF release in the January batch.
ORION MASTER STARSHIP BOOK
This **was** finished until a staffer sent a late report. Monday or Tuesday, Steve P and I will review that report and see if this can be part of the Jan batch or wait for Feb.
MODULE K UPDATE 2026
This is nearly finished. Albert needs to do some page layout work but otherwise we're done. I hope this can ship in January.
A CALL TO ARMS BOOK THREE
This isn't finished yet and I don't think it will make February, probably later in the spring. One big issue is that each entry needs to list the 3d printed ships used for the product and that contract isn't quite finished and it will take time to get the book finished, and I was told only today that Tony Thomas wants to go through it again before release, and that review and it's fixes will take at least a month.
ISC MASTER STARSHIP BOOK
This is well on the way to finished but I have just begun to do the art. A few months before this is done.

The new counters, including BUFFALO (which will add more bases to the boxed game) and ZULU (which will add more ships to Civil Wars) arrived today.

Hooray!!!!

The new full-page countersheet Buffalo replaces the half-page countersheet Bases. Folks who buy the boxed F&E set will get two copies of the Buffalo countersheet instead of two old Bases half-sheets.
Yes, it has everything from the lowly battlestation to the X-technology starbase. Think of the power! Think of the ability to exterminate your enemies' ships.

Think of all the Frali you can eliminate with them!
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 - 02:51 pm: Edit
Must we?
The Fralli must fill SOME necessary function in the galactic ecosystem.
Eliminating the Fralli might be the “keystone “ piece that holds the whole system together.
Ending the Fralli could doom all.
By Mike Curtis (Nashvillen) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 - 04:33 pm: Edit
Well, they are dependent on their current being minimally affected by the resistance to make their power larger.
We must never forget the Frali scientist, G'org Ohm, who figured this out and it is how the Frali found out their ugliness is their power.
By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 - 05:13 pm: Edit
More good news! Countersheet Zulu is here! It is a double-sided countersheet with 280 counters. One sheet is included in Federation & Empire: Civil Wars, but you know you want more of these ships.
[And if anyone threatens my Fralli, there will be Bampton stewpots involved.]
