Gentlemen,

There has been an outbreak of profanity and rude and crude language on the BBS. People are getting around the profanity filters with extra letters or using terms we didn't block because we never thougt to see that language here.

Why do we ask you not use that language?

1. Some people find it very offensive. I have gotten emails from others regarding it.

2. I know of teens who read the BBS. If parents monitor their teens, then we could end up banned through parental control programs.

3. There are ladies present. I know of at least four who do read the BBS. While we have heard that sort of language, you shouldn't expect us to appreciate it.

4. You are highly intelligent gentlemen. You can find polite (and creative) ways of expressing your sentiments. You don't have to use Anglo-Saxon words to express yourselves.

5. It takes time away from the company's primary business: providing games and gaming material for you. Every time that you use one of those words and the system doesn't bleep it, I have to go in and manually edit it. If I think that I'm being overly Victorian, I have to ask one of the Steves to go in and give me a verdict. Last time, that was SVC and he went ahead and edited it. That was time that he wasn't writing FC: War and Peace. It was also time that I wasn't proofreading Captain's Log. This is time that I am not proofreading Captain's Log, but I hope that in the long run it will save time.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the language clean on the BBS.

Jean
