Photos from October 2010

These first three are from the presentation, where Leyton Cougar, who runs WSWS, explains wolves to people and allows them to meet Flurry, an arctic wolf. Flurry was one of several cubs who were hand-raised so they'd be friendly and safe around people, but the only one of them who "made the grade". Flurry replaced Raven, the previous Ambassador Wolf. (Raven passed away two years ago.) The first photo shows Leanna having a private moment with Flurry.

The photo below is the mixing tub for "wolf loaf" which is a mix of hamburger, ground turkey, eggs, vitamins, rice, carrots, and green beans. The wolves are fed this once a week to be sure they have a balanced diet.

The photos below are of two wolves who are in pens "over the mountain" on the back side of the sanctuary. Because these thirteen wolves would not get their pumpkins until the day after the party (due to limits on moving 200 visitors through hours of pumpkin tossing) Leanna and I asked for and were given permission to toss them bones so they would not feel left out.

This is what happens when you give a wolf a pumpkin that Steve Cole personally stuffed with five pounds of raw meat.
