What ever happened to East Wind Rain, a WWII Pacific theater game?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 02:29 pm: Edit

No idea. I cannot even say I remember the title.

By Mark S. Hoyle (Resartus) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 04:00 pm: Edit

I would imagine the shear size of it, right as computer games were getting a hold on the market, relegated it to a dusty back shelf ---

Any hope of resurrecting Battlewagon? I have an old battered copy but I had alotta fun with it.

By Richard Biggs (Richinq) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 04:26 pm: Edit

War of the Worlds would be on intrest maybe the games could be put on E23 as print and play.

But that could be a lot of work and there are more important stuff to do for SFB etc.

Rich.

True Mark, I have yet to talk any one into playing it.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 05:17 pm: Edit

I'd love to get all of them re-released, but I didn't have time to do Marines and Fed Admiral, so do you really think I'm going to do war of the worlds and battlewagon?

By Dixon Simpkins (Dixsimpkins) on Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 07:10 pm: Edit

Awww, Shucks! :)

By Jonathan Biggar (Jonb) on Friday, October 14, 2011 - 01:36 pm: Edit

I think TFG licensed East Wind Rain from another designer (maybe in Japan?), so the license probably reverted.

Since Captain's Log is the biggest seller, and the Origns crunch is gone how about three issues a year instead of two?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 03:11 pm: Edit

Well, the Origins crunch won't stay gone.

The schedule is something we're thinking about, but I don't think this would happen. (For one thing, getting fiction is like pulling teeth. If i had three front-page stories on file, we'd consider it.)

We'd have to drop another product, and I'm not sure that a third captain's log would sell as well as the other two, or that we could maintain the quality standards.

Given the number of product lines that all want one or two products, and the practicable limit on actual product numbers, I'm not sure it's even possible.

With the Mongoose deal will you be doing SFB and F&E versions of the Traveller universe?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 03:16 pm: Edit

I don't think so, but we might print stuff other people did. (I have too many projects now. I'm not adding projects about a universe I have never seen to my personal design project list. I want to do Marines and more FC stuff.)

From what I was told, the entire Traveller universe is about 1.25 F&E hexes so I don't think the F&E game engine would necessarily work.

Xorkalians!

Where?

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 05:22 pm: Edit

In the Xork sectors! :)

By Patrick H. Dillman (Patrick) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 06:09 pm: Edit

Oh, good! I was so hoping they hadn't followed me here. ;-)

From what I was told, the entire Traveller universe is about 1.25 F&E hexes so I don't think the F&E game engine would necessarily work.

Well, really, the F&E engine doesn't need the 500 parsec/hex rule. It just needs a decently large scale, and ships that can sense and react to enemy movements quickly over long distances.

Which does eliminate Traveller from any kind of good match up. The first thing is that FTL communications/sensors do not exist. Want to send a message? You've got to send a ship. Second, is the fact that Traveller has one of the most constrained ranges for FTL drive ever seen. The most advanced drive, and fuel tankage equal to 60% of your ship's entire internal volume will get you... all of six parsecs. It only takes a week, so the actual speed at that point is good, but you're still going to need to spend time getting more hydrogen from somewhere (hope there's a gas giant in the system you just hopped into) to fill up the tanks again.

It would be interesting to see F&E adapted to a setting with a scale a little less... extreme... than the 500 parsec/hex scale, but Traveller isn't going to be it.

Someone else needs to create a game for strategic traveller, and I would not start with F&E, or need ADB to be involved in it.

By Kosta Michalopoulos (Kosmic) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 08:07 pm: Edit

Well, strategic Traveller was done by GDW back in Fifth Frontier War. I still have that game. From what I recall, it worked quite well. Mind you, it's probably been 30 years since I last played it.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - 08:35 pm: Edit

Like I said, somebody else's game, no need to discuss it here.

Getting back to Captain's Log for a moment, may I assume that Stellar Shadows (as a "special" Captain's Log) is well and truly dead, and will not be seen again?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, November 04, 2011 - 04:48 pm: Edit

I would not assume that. It's always an option, but one that we could not consider without a lot more suitable material on file (at least half of an issue.)

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Saturday, December 17, 2011 - 09:45 pm: Edit

How about a SFB monster module? Monster scenarios, ssds for monsters, monster rules seen in Captains log, Juggernaut fleet ships etc. And or a Monsters Attack!! for Federation Commander. monster ship cards, more Juggy cards, bring in a few more monsters. Now for the best part of are the never before seen but mentioned elsewhere Monster fleet box, and monster squadron boxes in 2500 scale :+)
