All of the above is hard copy existing data in my copy of PDFED.

Hey Steve. Do you have a document like the pdf above for the Omega sector? Or was it the creation of one that you were referring to when we spoke via email a while back?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 10:21 am: Edit |
No, I have no such document. I don't really do anything with Omega. You'd have to talk to Petrick, and I know he has no such document.
By Rick Smith (Rick_Smith) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 03:20 pm: Edit |
Ah, OK. I was just curious about it. You had sent me an email about working on some stuff after I shared those planets with you. I was wondering if this gazetteer project was somehow related. Thanks!

SFB Module Y1
Paravian home world. Location unknown. Former capital of Paravians in the Alpha Octant; destroyed when a Sun Snake drove its star nova in Y94. 11 Dec 2010, Gary Carney
(I can't seem to find a reference specifying what that world was actually called, though.)
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 03:29 pm: Edit |
What I said in my email, Rick, was for YOU to do the Omega Gazetteer (not subject to Gary's approval, either, but including his contributions).
Your big problem is that Omega does not have...
An F&E type map showing planets
any RPG material such as sourcebooks
nearly as much published SFB material or fiction mentioning planets.
I suspect that, absent making up new stuff (which I don't have time to approve) the total published available info would be less than a page.
By Rick Smith (Rick_Smith) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 04:09 pm: Edit |
Wow! That would be quite the exciting task.
Creating an F&E style map for the octant would be a challenge, considering that the borders change a lot, but it would also be a huge amount of fun...especially with an Omega Gazetteer book to go alongside a map to describe all the locations, points of interest, and areas of historical battles...very interesting task indeed.
I'm not sure how planets, moons and other bodies are classified in the Star Fleet Universe. Is that easily accessible as a free download or on file?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 06:31 pm: Edit |
I would say to start with a list of planets mentioned. (We can set you up with a separate topic for Omega.) There really aren't any instructions on how many planets to scatter around an F&E map, and I didn't tell you to do that anyway (since we'd have to do it in-house anyway). I'd just start with a list of mentioned planet names.
By Rick Smith (Rick_Smith) on Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 06:47 pm: Edit |
OK. Sounds good!

John - these are much better done at one pass for an issue (IE., if doing the planets for CL#24, dig through all the articles in the issue and list all the planets).
There are a number of people working on this, and that's really the only way we'll make sure we get them all. This is tremendously time consuming to do, but we've already had so many planets slipping through the cracks. It's a frustrating project, that's for sure! In focusing on a single issue, and basically hitting it every-story, and every-page at a time, does help make sure we get them all.
As a side note - GPD Klingons and GPD Romulans are both listed as 'done', when both are very clearly not. So those are going to be some very big tasks.

Minor error in the gazetteer:
Entry for IRIDIMA (hex 1912) reads as "Neutral planet in Fed-Klingon Neutral Zone. Site of the largest battle (SL265) in the Second Federation-Kzinti War."
I do believe that should say "in the Second Federation-Klingon War."

My FLAP list says to check CL47 for planet names and add them to the gazetteer. Checking all of the likely places, I found no planet names.
If anybody else does, post them.

We should have at least 2N+1 redundancy, not N+1 for starters. :-)
