Hi! I enjoy reading SFU fiction. Since I don't have all the Captain's Logs, I really enjoyed "For the Glory of the Empire: Star Fleet Journal #1". I would really like to see Journal #2 published. Reading the Romulan "Day of the Eagle" stories would be great.
From reading some of the other posts here, I gather that another story compilation must be too expensive to print, with not enough anticipated demand. That's unfortunate.
Journal #2 or not, what I would really like to see are more stories about the various alien empires. I find the SFU to be fascinating, and would like to see more of those stories that fully flesh out the other empires as actual people. Stories about Gorns, Hydrans, Kzinti, Lyrans, Seltorians. The Masters, etc...
Are there any good stories like that in back issues of CL that you guys can direct me to? There was a Tholian one in Journal #1 that I really liked.
Thanks for reading.

"From reading some of the other posts here, I gather that another story compilation must be too expensive to print, with not enough anticipated demand. That's unfortunate."
However fortunate or unfortunate it is, it's just not true. We can easily print journal #2. I could probably have it ready by Friday (plus two or three months for Jean to proofread it and consistentize the scene titles).
I've just had other things to do.
It's also a matter that Journal #1 was done as sort of an experiment to see if the machinery would do books, the ultimate plan being to sell into book channels. But selling into book channels for a new publisher means having more books ready, and again, I just haven't done it.
Inspired, I'd start on it today and have it by Friday, but than means I would not be working on Traveller, Tribbles, FC Tactics Manual, Fed MSSB, and the zombie thing.
I might mention that AWAY TEAM LOG is very much a "big book of stuff to read" and you'd find it every bit as interesting as Journal #1.

Well, glad to hear I'm wrong about the demand. I just couldn't figure why else it hadn't been done yet. I know I would certainly buy it! But the reason makes sense. Just a conflict of products to get done, and not enough Steve Coles on hand to do it all at once.
I will have to check out AWAY TEAM LOG. Thanks!

Hello,
I recently got and played The Hunters: German U-
Boats at War 1939-1943 by GMT games. This game is in the same vein as the venerable B-17 Queen of the Skies.
It is a single player only game, where the player takes the role of the captain taking their boat out on patrols. The game does a great job at creating a compelling narrative while still providing choices for the player.
While playing the game, I could not help but think how much fun a similar style SFU game would be. A strong narrative is something that I feel the SFU is good at, so a simulation game that also has a compelling narrative would be a good fit.
Clearly the uboat system from The Hunters could not just be lifted and applied directly to cloaked Romulans, but I think a similar style game could be a compelling addition to the line up.

At the risk of getting burned for heresy, would there be a market for a "Space Fleet Battles" game book or such? For example SFB without the SFU? Use the game mechanics for a any ship, any empire, any genre style system ala Squadron Strike or Starmada?

I'm not qualified to design that (don't know enough about other genres other then Hyperdrive) but if somebody did the design and others tested it then I'd print it.

How about Module V? Any thoughts on that one?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, January 08, 2014 - 01:42 pm: Edit |
It's on the list of ideas, but a long time ago we tried to develop it and found players had several very different ideas what it was, and that there was not much support for any given idea.

I'm still looking forward to the Xorks.
But MSSB is a bigger priority IMHO. At least, just from my narrow personal perspective.

Will you take proposals for Module V?
The last I read, there was no input necessary, and I'm wondering if that has changed or if you're willing to revisit it.

Would it be worth relisting the different takes and seeing if the degree of support has changed for any of them?

Not really, there are too many projects already in line. Might be something to look into in the fall or perhaps next year.

Might one of those projects "in line" be module Q? I know it's been shelved forever and I wanted to ask if anyone at all has interest besides me?

So ADB has printed Galactic Conquest books, could ADB and Franz games make a deal (or maybe just need permission) where ADB could print hard-copies with a cardstock cover of the Star Fleet Warlord rulebook to sell? I'd buy one.
How about Early Beginnings? Isn't it a campaign book of some sort.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 03:07 pm: Edit |
I'd make that deal. Either of those deals.

Hey Paul Franz! Look here!
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, February 02, 2014 - 09:54 am: Edit |
I would love to have this option available to my customers. I am sure it would be cheaper than have a copy printed via FedEx-Kinkos.
The one thing about this is that it would be low volume. I don't think that would be an issue with on demand printing (assuming no covers need to be kept in stock.)
By Howard Bampton (Bampton) on Sunday, February 02, 2014 - 01:01 pm: Edit |
Paul, I rather suspect that the Galactic Conquest Rulebook has a "print run" of under 100 units. I assume that the covers themselves are POD since they are black ink on cardstock.
Speaking for myself as a GC player, not ADB.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, February 02, 2014 - 01:52 pm: Edit |
Yes, that is how we do it.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, February 02, 2014 - 03:19 pm: Edit |
Steve,
Do you want me to Email you about what you need to print a Star Fleet Warlord Rulebook? (i.e. format of the file that needs to be sent, what the cover should look like, etc)
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, February 02, 2014 - 03:32 pm: Edit |
sure
By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Thursday, February 13, 2014 - 07:39 pm: Edit |
How about a print on demand, card-stock cover, SFB/FC Play by Email rulebook?

Leather bound gold leaf embossed multi-volume SFU Master Rule Books?
By Loren Knight (Loren) on Friday, February 14, 2014 - 09:46 pm: Edit |
I think we need to get the multi volumes done first.
By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - 10:34 am: Edit |
Hey Paul, any progress on getting the Star Fleet warlord book into print? I believe ADB has a couple of things almost ready to go on sale (FCTM, FMSSB, AM 2014 SSD Book), it would be nice to be able to order all at once.
