Jean, what page size, margins, font, and spacing does ADB use for Kindle publications?

On a related note, about how many words (when doing text instead of a scenario) fit on a page in Captains Log?

Mike, the page is 8.5 x 11, the font is Arial 10, the margin is Word's normal 1" all around, and the paragraph indent is 0.25". The spacing is single space with no extra spacing.
Howard, I don't have a good answer. If you have a PDF of one of the more recent issues, you might copy and paste the text, then you would have a feel for how many characters you could use.

I think it's about 7500 characters. Let me check on the other computer.

I grabbed the 10 questions page and it was 7012 characters including spaces, but that includes ten blank lines and a lot of short lines. I found a really dense page of rules stuff Petrick did that was 7414. A very "airy" page of F&E Scenario with a lot of blank lines and short lines was 4435. If I remember, 7500 is the max in a word document of the format I use for drafts, a bit larger than CapLog pages. All of these numbers INCLUDE BLANK SPACES BETWEEN WORDS.

Arial? I thought ADB mandates the use of Helvetica?
By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 - 06:48 pm: Edit |
Mayhap the assumption is that most people don't have access to Helvetica so should use Arial? Then ADB converts it over?

We use Helvetica in products. Not sure what they used in the Kindle book.

Characters work (and wc counts actual characters- letters, spaces, etc). Thank you.

We used Arial in the Kindle book because that's what Amazon wants.
