Ramses Cole Bengal transferred to the Black Fleet at 10 this morning, 28 July 2016. Increasingly ill in recent months, he reached the point where he could not eat or drink, and it was time to let him go. In cat years, Ramses was 85 and devoted every one of those years to making ADB a better place.

Isis and Ramses confer over security matters.
Ramses in his command post. The original photo (taken at night) was almost black, but due to the miracle of photoshop I was able to raise much of the detail.

Ramses takes his mail order bride Misca on a tour of his territory. Ramses is trained to follow commands, but Misca had only been outside the fence once and then only for a few seconds, so she had to wear a harness and leash.

Misca relaxes on a towel on the lower part of "the big bed" between human feet, watching her husband's tail.

How is Misca doing with the harness and leash?
What will be her role at ADB?

Misca does not work for ADB. She loves her harness and leash as it means a trip out of the yard.

During his walk on 31 October, Ramses noted that Eightball, the black cat who owns the territory to the east, had crossed the border (the road) and was intruding into Ramsesland. This would not do, and Ramses fluffed his fur into full attack mode and trotted at a fast pace to confront the intruder. Eightball retreated to his own territory, and Ramses threat-displayed along the border to make sure the incident was not repeated.

Misca Cole Bengal passed away in the arms of her family this morning at 9:17. Leanna and I are devastated but coping as well as could be expected. Misca has been ill for some months and was diagnosed two months ago as not long for this world. We made the best of her final days for her.
Misca was sixteen, about the age most Bengals die of internal cancer, the same thing that claimed Isis and Ramses at similar ages. She joined us in 2016 to keep Ramses company in his final year, a duty she did with warmth and kindness. We gave her the best years of her life, with a cat door to a yard she could not escape and all of the high-end food and treats she could ever want.
