Report on 3CON IV convention...
This turned out to be more of a RPG type of con than a SFB type.

Saturday - I got all set up around 12:30, but found out that my time slot wasn't until 3:00. So, I left, got lunch, chilled for a while, and came back around 2:30.
Nobody seemed interested, so just as I was about to pack it up, a guy came by and asked if he could play.
So, it was just Jerry and I, and he wanted to play the Federation, and I played the Klingon.
Normally the scenario is "blind" meaning the players don't know the rules behind the monster's behavior, but I decided it wouldn't be fair for me to know that and him not to, so I told him all the monster "secrets".
He pounded the crap out of the monster with the Fed TCC (Fed and Hydran do excellent up close damage) and then fired a pair of phasers at the "peaceful" Klingon.
(The fact that I launched a pair of ship busting drones may have provoked him to do that dastardly act.)
I almost killed the monster...down to one HP, and he finished it off, spraying dilithium all over the map.
Unfortunately for him, he chose to go speed 4 the next turn, AND he let my two drones hit him. He had a down shield to me, and my disruptors were ready to fire on impulse 6, which is when I gutted him like a fish.
He said he had a great time and this was the best game of SFB that he had played ever, which was really nice to hear.

Sunday - Got there around 12:45, not feeling the greatest and got set up. I noticed that there were half as many people there as there were on Saturday.
Nobody stopped by or showed any interest, and most GMs were packing up their gear from the weekend.
I stuck around until 2:00, and went up to see if I got a door prize (they handed out raffle tickets), and I won some zombie game.

The con wasn't a total loss, but it's the least amount of players I've ever had (besides zero).

Spo Con's Game Expo just concluded with the following report: 200+ attendees, with only one (1) attending the SFB Sanctioned Tournament event, with miniatures. I taught him the basics for his EA sheet, and played one (1) turn before departing for another location. His Fed CC took 45 internals, and a Hydran Lord Marshall took 14 internals before departure. He also destroyed the two fighters before leaving.

Ranger Report: I taught one person how to play Star Fleet Missions. He won 20 to 13.

After (in)Action Report for 3CON V

Quite simply, I showed up for a convention that was canceled, which was hugely disappointing to me.

PentaCon is next month, and I'm pretty sure they won't cancel. See you there, if you're coming!

I hope to host at least two Star Fleet Battles games at www.HMGS-South.com Recon convention in Orlando Florida April 28-May 1.
This past fall I hosted 2 SFB games at thier Hurricon event and had a good turnout.

I need some input on scenario ideas. This past fall we made 2 scenarios with limited rules so we could get at least 8 players and complete a game in about 4 hours.

For Recon I was thinking maybe the Gorn-Romulan scenario from Captian's Log 50 for one game.

I am not a good rules lawyer but I enjoy hosting and organizing things.

It's a little earlier this year, so we want to get the news out now.

Please mark your calendars for:
September 23-25, 2016

With 2016 being the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, we are planning on a great event track all weekend.

We've got a special page on our web site dedicated to all the Star Trek and Star Fleet gaming that will be part of the anniversary celebration.
Link: www.swa-gaming.org/Star-Trek-Star-Fleet-Games-at-Council

Here's the executive summary of what you'll see if you click through:

* Warm-up events in Spring and Summer 2016

Call for Game Masters - coming soon

We are making a few updates to the web form where GMs enter the info on the games they want to run at Council. This is necessary because our web host, DreamHost, changed how data collected from web forms is handled.

We expect to have GM event registration open by the last week of March, if not sooner. We will announce it here. You can also check out the SWA web site any time for the latest Council news updates.

Hotel Reservations

If you're the kind of person that likes to plan ahead, now is a good time to make your Council hotel reservations. We've just updated the Council Hotels page on our web site.

I plan on hosting at least one Star Fleet Battles game at Recon in Orlando Florida in mid September. The website is www.HMGS-South.com

This will be the 3rd time for me to host a game at the HMGS convention. My friend Marc is the rules guy and I am the organizer. For this convention I plan on hosting only 1 Star Fleet Battles game unless people want 2 games. Right now we have a scenario that plays well in 2 turns which is about right for a convention.

Winter SFB Day – Saturday, January 14

Hello SFB Community,

We had fun at the informal Star Fleet Battles day we had at Dave’s house back in May, so we’re doing it again this Winter.

When: Saturday, January 14, 2017 (Martin Luther King, Jr Day is the following Monday, the 16th)
Where: Dave’s house in Albany, NY
Cost: Chip in for food. Gaming and lodging are free (unless if you upgrade yourself to a hotel bed)

DETAILS
We will start in the morning of Saturday, January 14th whenever people get up and/or arrive. We will play SFB all day and into the night. The default for many of the guys we expect will be tournament games, but other SFB action is welcome too. Other Star Fleet Universe, and related games, are welcome too. If you want to run a game, let us know and we will publicize an event list. This is intended to be a casual gaming day.

If someone wants to run a scenario, we already have one person who will show up for that, but he’s not into Tournament SFB. So volunteer yourself as a GM and we will publicize your event.

We will have food. Everyone who attends can chip in. We might order in, or we might cook onsite. Or a mixture of both. This all depends on how many RSVPs we get. We’ll figure out details on the food later.

If you are traveling, guest beds are available. Dave has made progress with accommodations since last time. Downstairs in the Guest Suite we have a Queen bed, two Twin beds, and a pull-out couch with a Full size mattress. Upstairs we have a Queen size pull-out. If we have more than five guests, I’ve also got a couch, two air mattresses, some reclining chairs, and plenty of floor space. These accommodations are free to guests. For those of you who want more comfort and privacy, there are three hotels, each at a different price point, within literal walking distance of Dave’s house.

EXTENDED WEEKEND ACTION
You are welcome to arrive Friday afternoon/evening if you’d like. We will have some kind of group dinner on Friday, January 13th. We will then either watch a movie on Dave’s awesome home theater system, or do some causal gaming, or something else.

We will probably have some kind of Sunday brunch for those who stay over on Saturday night. If you want to watch some NFL Divisional Playoff action, you can stay and help clean up. On that note, the NFL playoffs will be on in the background on Saturday while we are playing SFB.

RSVPs
We have four committed so far.
Brian Evans
Ed Slusarek
Rob Estrada
Dave Cheng

All these guys are driving at least 3 hours, so they have dibs on three of the beds. It pays to act early and secure a spot for yourself ASAP.

Hope to see many of you in January.

UPDATE - Winter SFB Day – Saturday, January 14

Hello SFB Community,

We are a little less than two weeks until the Winter SFB day at Dave's house in Albany, NY.
Saturday, January 14th will be upon us real soon!

We have six confirmed attendees:

Brian Evans
Ed Slusarek
Rob Estrada
Brett Johnson
Tom Compter
Dave Cheng

Chris Proper is a Maybe/Probable.

If you are interested in Non-Tournament Non-SFB, Tom Compter is volunteering to run a Federation Commander scenario with Minis. Saturday morning or early afternoon, as he needs to leave by dinnertime. Please reply if this interests you and you would like to reserve a spot.

Please also reply if you are thinking of attending and would like us to add you to the Confirmed list.
The five confirmed already listed account for all five beds available, but I have some air mattresses, so I can host a few more overnight guests.

Deadline for RSVPs is Wednesday, January 11th, so I have a few days to plan for food.

Hope to see many of you soon,

Dave Cheng
