Oh come on Jean.

Everyone knows that the "anti-biotics" are actually to keep you from transforming into a weredog.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 - 09:39 am: Edit

Happy Christmas to you all. May you have peace, love, hope, and joy. Wolf adds that he hopes you have all the food you need, lots of toys to play with, good walks, and a nice place to sleep.

Let's spare a thought for those who are away from family and friends because they are ill, deployed or far from home, or keeping people safe and well.

With love,

Jean and Wolf

SVC: What ya doin?
Jean: Googling something.
SVC: Again with the Google! You are a nun for Google!
Jean: Google is enlightenment. You are the anti-google.
SVC: Then I smite the with adware!
Jean: Quarantine! Quarantine!

(Barney Google, with those goo-goo-googlin' eyes?)

(Okay, okay; I'm headin' back to my booth. There's noo need to send the `Gators, or that Slirdarian Corporal, Punishment, after me...)

I see that SVC likes Get Fuzzy.

Trekyards posted a two-hour video last night on YouTube of their live-streaming session. This episode was "all about Star Fleet Battles". Basically, "Captain" Foley rambled on and on while showing mostly Adam Turner's artwork, presenting it as SFB Gospel. The more he talked, the more he proved he really is not an SFB expert by any stretch of the imagination. Twice people asked if SFB is still in print, and both times he said "I don't know, but I think you can still find it for sale." {sigh}

I haven't seen it in a game store since 2012. :-<

I'm sure its out there somewhere though.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 09:55 am: Edit

Foley blocked me on FB. I've given up trying to let him know anything. He should bloody well know it is in print; I told him that last year.

(heavy sigh)

I put the websight down during the chat

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 03:35 pm: Edit

Others (including me) have contacted both Foley and Calkings. For whatever reason, they ain't interested in listening.

By Patrick H. Dillman (Patrick) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 04:18 pm: Edit

The occasional misinformed comment about Star Fleet Battles would be excusable, but now they have gone and made a major production on it and are still mis-informed and still seem to not care that they are hurting your product! I do not make this recommendation lightly. ADB needs to 1), file a copyright strike with you tube on that episode. At the very least get it demonetized! 2. File a C&D against them and let them know that until they post a full correction, that you will be seeking damages.

These knuckleheads are doing damage to your business. At the very least they are making it harder to attract new customers. At worst, they are encouraging former customers from returning.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 04:25 pm: Edit

I'd concur with Patrick that these guys are causing harm.

Their show is pretty slickly produced, and they have franchise design staff as guests on their show frequently (Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, Andrew Probert, John Eaves, etc.). The techy-trekkers know this and watch. Because of that, TrekYards has become the biggest channel for that niche and that niche has a big overlap with the audience for ADB's games.

If they're actively saying SFB is out of print, then far too many potential customers are hearing it.

The one SFB-focused episode I watched, Foley and his friends played Commander's Edition SFB and it was quite clear Foley had no idea there was anything newer. That was ignorant, but being uninformed is not a crime. If he's now saying SFB is out of print, despite multiple people trying to tell him otherwise, that seems willful.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 04:29 pm: Edit

I watched that episode, they didn't actually say it was out of print, but rather that they didn't know if it still was and that it might be (if I recall correctly).

It would be nice if they said it was still in print though.

By Dennis Surdu (Aegis) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 04:37 pm: Edit

I watched that episode too and you folks are over-blowing this. This guy gave the game pretty good marks, are you kidding me? Copyright strike?! More like striking yourself in the foot.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 04:47 pm: Edit

Nobody at ADB has talked about a copyright strike.

By Dennis Surdu (Aegis) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 05:05 pm: Edit

Was referring to someone's recommendation as such above......

I think Trekyards, inaccuracies aside, gave the game system a shot in the arm. YouTubers with that level of subs who also like SFB should be nurtured.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 07:05 pm: Edit

Hey, I like what Foley and Calkings do. I don't agree with everything they do, but they do it well.

It would just be nice if they would at least listen to the several people that have tried to give them current information about the SFU.

I know I personally offered to help them with access to permissions for graphics and information from ADB but they just don't wanna talk. Blocking Jean (probably the nicest and most-polite person on planet Earth) sends a pretty clear message.

By Dennis Surdu (Aegis) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 09:57 pm: Edit

Short of an officially sanctioned ADB Youtube presence that promotes SFB (and has lots of subs), Youtubers like these guys stand the best chance of improving SFB notoriety to new generations of gamers. No reason I can think of why SFB would not be accepted and cannot be as resurgent as say Battletech. The game system beats anything on the market for tactical depth and playability. It also would be more fun to watch via stream, if done correctly, than X Wing Nationals.

By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 10:09 pm: Edit

One reason is it is based on 50 year old source material. The younger generation wants Kelvin-timeline and ST: Discovery.

By Dennis Surdu (Aegis) on Monday, January 21, 2019 - 10:28 pm: Edit

Nick, you underestimate the pull of the old timeline especially if your focus is warfighting aspects of the SFU. Look at the draw of the whole Axanar thing. There is huge latent market for the ADB license, I suspect.

We invited Stuart Foley to our Battlegroup Toronto SFB tournament last July (IIRC he lives in London, ON, about two hours west of here), but he did not show. Pity. It would have been good to expose him to an active SFB group, and conversely to get exposure for SFB on his channel.

He missed Kent Ing, who showed up with a bunch of his gorgeous minis. Kent's minis would be good for an episode of Trekyards by themselves!

We'll try inviting Foley again this year.

By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 - 06:08 pm: Edit

Dennis, I hope I am wrong.

By Nicholas Sandberg (Savedfromwhat) on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 - 08:28 pm: Edit

Hey Jean, just an FYI The Hailing Frequencies for January 2019 still says 2018. If you have already been made aware apologies.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Thursday, January 24, 2019 - 10:32 am: Edit

Thanks!

By Mark Hutton (Trynda1701) on Saturday, January 26, 2019 - 11:16 am: Edit

I'm currently watching the video, and after the second question of whether SFB was still in print, posted the following comment...

"A couple of people asked in the stream chat whether SFB is still in print. Yes, it is, direct from ADB if you can't find it in your local game store.

www.starfleetgames.com"

Hopefully, that helps. :)
