Attendance: Usually over 3000, definitely all rooms at the hotel and gaming filling all floors. Cost, $40 for the four days but free if you Game Master for 6hrs (anyone up for running more SFB?)
Website: look up KublaCon, not posting a link because I don't know what the current rules are.

SFB will be played at Kublacon 2017 in San Francisco
Jean - looks like the event has been approved and scheduled as follows:
Kublacon 2017
SFO Hyatt (in Burlingame)
Memorial Day Weekend
May 26-29th 2017
www.kublacon.com
Scheduled:
Cadet's PF Demolition Derby Friday at 5:00p
Normal PF Demolition Derby Saturday at 9:00a
Pickup games before/after if we get enough people to do more. I wanted to do something that would involve a bunch of people, allow new players to fly something fun during the cadet round, match with modern game combat pacing and yet be Star Fleet.
Cost is now $60 (early registration is over) but the 6-8 hr GM or volunteer for free access is open until April or it fills up. Feel free to message me if you're going. It would be cool to know some other SFB players who will be there.

Battle Group Brevard is hosting another SFB game at www.HMGS-South.com RECON April 2017. I have put in a request to have the game on Friday evening 8pm-midnight. Please see the Historical Miniatures Gaming Societies website. Below is the tentative scenario.
Orion Raiders have successfully destroyed an orbital Lyran commercial platform and the planetary covering police force. The Orions are now looting the planet for valuable cargo. A Lyran distress call was sent out and a ragtag assortment of nearby availible Lyran ships slowly begin to arrive. Can the Lyran's disrupt the raid? Or will the Orion pirates one day get a movie made romanticizing thier criminal exploits.

RESCHEDULED
Spring SFB Day – Saturday, April 1
Hello SFB Community,
We had fun at the informal Star Fleet Battles day we had at Dave’s house back in May, so we’re doing it again.
When: Saturday, April 1, 2017
Where: Dave’s house in Albany, NY
Cost: Chip in for food. Gaming and lodging are free (unless if you upgrade yourself to a hotel bed)
DETAILS
We will start in the morning of Saturday, April 1st whenever people get up and/or arrive. We will play SFB all day and into the night. The default for many of the guys we expect will be tournament games, but other SFB action is welcome too. Other Star Fleet Universe, and related games, are welcome too. If you want to run a game, let us know and we will publicize an event list. This is intended to be a casual gaming day.
If someone wants to run a scenario, we already have one person who will show up for that, but he’s not into Tournament SFB. So volunteer yourself as a GM and we will publicize your event.
We will have food. Everyone who attends can chip in. We might order in, or we might cook onsite. Or a mixture of both. This all depends on how many RSVPs we get. We’ll figure out details on the food later.
If you are traveling, guest beds are available. Dave has made progress with accommodations since last time. Downstairs in the Guest Suite we have a Queen bed, two Twin beds, and a pull-out couch with a Full size mattress. Upstairs we have a Queen size pull-out. If we have more than five guests, I’ve also got a couch, two air mattresses, some reclining chairs, and plenty of floor space. These accommodations are free to guests. For those of you who want more comfort and privacy, there are three hotels, each at a different price point, within literal walking distance of Dave’s house.
EXTENDED WEEKEND ACTION
You are welcome to arrive Friday afternoon/evening if you’d like. We will have some kind of group dinner on Friday, March 31st. We will then either watch a movie on Dave’s awesome home theater system, or do some causal gaming, or something else.
We will probably have some kind of Sunday brunch for those who stay over on Saturday night.
Please RSVP here, or via email.
More soon,
-DC

Friday night movie
I forgot to mention.
We will almost certainly be watching a move on my awesome home theater on Friday night after dinner.
Title TBD. I have a few good ones to choose from.

Had a great pair of games at Kublacon as planned. Game 1 was 6, game 2 was 4 people. 1-2 experienced, 3 had once played and the remainder were new. No problems or unexpected events.

SFB Ithaca Cup, Saturday, August 26th
Hello Northeast Star Fleet Battles Players,
Once again, the marauders of Battlefleet SWA are preparing to invade the idyllic town of Ithaca, NY. We've been doing this annually for over twelve years now, and we have the scars to prove it.
Battlefleet Ithaca and Battlefleet SWA will play in a team head-to-head open format, with victory to the team with the most wins. As usual, we are happy to take on as mercenaries any SFB players who would like to join us.
The date is set for Saturday, August 26th, 2017.
We'll start around 12:00 noon, take a break for dinner, and play until it's time to go home (usually 9-10pm or so).
Team Ithaca carried the day last year, but we'll get them this year... Overlooking the fact that they've beaten us about 2/3rds of the time... :-(
If you'd like to join us, please reply to this message and we'll get you details. Players of any skill level are welcome!

I am going to be at Gaming Hoopla in the Chicago area April 27th-29th. There are not any official Star Fleet Universe events scheduled, but a lot of the convention is open gaming. If anyone else is going, I would love to play Federation Commander with you there.

While I know ADB will not be at Origins, was wondering if anyone is running SFU games independently this year?
By Michael F. Guntly (Ares) on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - 11:09 pm: Edit |
Andrew,
I just looked today on a whim.
If you look at the Origins event listing, under miniatures, there were 3 Federation Commander events listed.

The Battlegroup Toronto Cup

Battlegroup Toronto SFB Tournament Highlights
"If you've ever watched a submarine movie you know that eventually there's a scene where the sub is deep underwater and the erstwhile Destroyer is lobbing depth charges at it. The booms start out softly in the distance but gradually they grow closer to the sub. The hull begins to shake. Bolts fly off the wall. Panels explode. And everyone on board prays for the sub to hold together. This week's battle was a little bit like that. I was the sub." Fred

Attention SFB Players:
We are only 5 days away from the opening of the 2nd Annual Battlegroup Toronto SFB Tournament.
Battlegroup Toronto is a group of dedicated SFU players who have pulled together to make this event happen.
New players, old players, observers, are welcome.
Come by to fly a ship or just say hello.
BATTLEGROUP TORONTO SFB TOURNAMENT RULES
The tournament will be played as per Module T 2012.
Only results with sanctioned tournament ships will be counted towards a player's performance totals.
We do not have a non-playing judge so adjudication will be managed by at least two available players.
Tournament re-entry is allowed and re-entries will be assigned a starting score of zero.
Should a player choose to fly any of these ships:
The Andromedan Krait 2006 version will be used.
The Federation TCC will include a G-Rack with two Type IM drones and 4 ADD and no reloads.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will be a round-robin or all-play-all format time permitting; the intention is that players should make every effort to play with different opponents over the course of the tournament. Any questions over pairings will be resolved through adjudication.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Qualifying Rounds: Friday and Saturday. The venue will be available from 9AM to 8PM on Friday and Saturday.
Semi-Final Round: Sunday Morning
Final Round: Sunday Afternoon
The 4 players qualifying for the semi-final round, i.e., the Qualifiers, will be the players with:
1. Two or more wins and,
2. The highest win percentage at end of day Saturday.
In the case of players with a tied win percentage the Qualifie will be determined by weighting win percentages against the tournament performance of opponents.

I forgot to mention prizes for the Battlegroup Toronto SFB Tournament
The tournament winner will be awarded the coveted Battlegroup Toronto Cup and a copy of the Kzinti MSSB--courtesy of ADB.
Thank you ADB for your kind support of the event!
OK, now...is there any reason NOT to join us!

SFB Ithaca Cup - POSTPONED
It seems that the usual late summer trade winds are in the doldrums. They are not blowing hard enough to get our ships to the shores of Ithaca, NY.
So, the annual Ithaca Cup SFB day will not be taking place this Saturday as originally planned. We will reschedule for some time after Council of Five Nations (Oct 5-7). We'll keep you posted when that date is set.
More SFB at Council stuff coming in the next day or three.
By Peter Taylor (Basaipete) on Monday, September 10, 2018 - 04:20 pm: Edit |
I am going to be running an SFB tournament at PrezCon in Charlottesville, VA. February 28 - March 3, 2019.
http://prezcon.com
The con runs all week but the SFB tournament will be run Thursday noon through Sunday. The format will be Swiss on Thursday and Friday with the top 8 players advancing to single elimination Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
The hope is to have enough players to qualify for Rated Ace.
I will provide maps, chits, DAC, impulse charts, and SSDs. I will have the most recent version of the electronic Master Rulebook and Module T for judge use.
I also plan to run demos of SFB and/or FC in and around the tournament activity. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via this board or directly at basaipete@yahoo.com.
