On the second one, since it couldn't modify its original topic (which I will now delete), it panicked and just posted randomly elsewhere.

Also, for the record, in case double-counts aren't allowed, these are the users that Garth warned about a few posts up. They were both spammers as predicted.

For most of us, keeping the site clean is more important than "Notches".....

Okay, the person spamming the BBS has had posts deleted and the Ukrainian IP range blocked.

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Wednesday, February 03, 2021 - 07:02 pm: Edit

And the spammer on the Forum has had both IP ranges blocked.

Thanks for the IP bans!

On FedCmdr board, under "Federation Commando Frigate?" the original poster "Holden1" replied by quoting his own post and inserting links in the pull-quote. {sigh}

Seriously, why do they do that? What do they think they're going to accomplish? Do they really think people will click on these links that are half-hidden in the middle of a post??

Can't forget the '90s, when everyone was a Script Kiddie... :)

In about two days we will get two more from the two new users that made posts today. (They follow the nine letter + two number userid format.) At least for these two they are ostensibly from different IPs.

I'm absolutely furious with myself for not thinking of this MONTHS ago, BUT...

"Kids stuck at home with nothing to do?????"

Is there ANY chance of a reissue of Star Fleet Missions? IMO, it's a GREAT way to corrup... Uhh, INTRODUCE kids to the SFU

:)

Quick question on the FC Forum ...

Setup: Within the setup in the FC Forum, users may specify a personal URL in their user profile. If they do so, it will appear as a "WWW" button at the bottom of each post they make.

Question: Do we care if the user's personal URL is really a spam link?

Example: The new user "folkadeep" posted a non-sequitur post in the FC Forum. Nothing useful, but also nothing harmful or nefarious in the post itself. However, if you look at the "WWW" link automatically included a the bottom of their post, it is to something highly dubious and obviously not game related.

Is this an issue, or do we just not care? I want to make sure one way or the other before I just ignore it.

I think maybe we need to turn off that if we can.

That's an admin thing, so you'll have to figure it out. :)

I just wanted to bring it up

Thanks!

The only way to stop links in their sigs is to forbid all sigs. That needs SVC's approval.

I long ago delegated such approvals to Webmom, so I suggest Jean discuss the issue with her.
