I was looking for the SFB Tournament Reference (not the Tournament Rulebook) on Warehouse 23 but could not find it. Is this available in electronic format anywhere, or is it only available in print? If it's print only, could an electronic version be made available, please?

You would have to email Jean I don’t know.

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Friday, April 21, 2023 - 08:33 pm: Edit

If I recall correctly it didn't sell very well since the majority of people just buy the Master Rulebook. At this point it would also need updated since it is not up to MRB standards so I think was not worth the time to update.

If Al is now able to do layout perhaps the sales calculus for the TR has changed since essentially he could just cut and paste from the MRB but I am still not sure Jean would think it profitable.

My print copy was published in 2001, and I recognize it is not up to the current standards. I understand it is probably not worth the time and effort to update it, even if all that was required was cutting and pasting the various sections from the updated master rulebook. But I would still buy a PDF of the "vintage" version if it were available.

THE LEGEND OF LIEUTENANT KIM NO GO
Some years ago, I (or maybe Steve Petrick) said something on this BBS negative about North Korea. This attracted the attention of North Korean Intelligence. They began monitoring the website. At some point about six or seven years ago, North Korean Intelligence determined that enough insults were quite enough thank you, and decided to do something about it.

They dispatched a crack commando team (the FBI thinks the team includes eight members) led by Lieutenant Kim No Go, not related to the North Korean leader. (Lots of Koreans are surnamed "Kim".) His orders were, according to the Defense Intelligence Agency, to "make life miserable for the two Disrespectful Steves."

Kim No Go was something of a romantic, and determined that killing us or blowing up ADB would not satisfy the remit to "make life miserable" and he set out to find a way to properly conduct his mission.

I didn't realize it at the time, but Steve and I briefly met Lieutenant Kim in line at a fast food place over six years ago. As happens in Texas where total strangers strike up friendly conversations, he asked me how my day was going and I replied "as long as I can get to lunch on time, nothing else really matters."

This inspired his plan.

For the last six years (and more), Kim No Go has been determined to make us late for lunch. We have often seen him on the roofs of nearby buildings, holding a two-way radio in his hand, and often using binoculars. This explains why a seemingly endless series of cars drive past us "just close enough together" to keep us from getting out of the ADB parking lot, or out of the restaurant parking lot after we got there late due to the cars that just happened to pass by at intervals designed to make us late for lunch. As we leave the restaurant, Kim No Go can be seen on the roof of a nearby building, and his commando team (driving more cars from their seemingly endless fleet) drive slowly past the driveway in a way that maddeningly keeps us from getting out into traffic. Often, as we are driving to and from lunch, or when I drive Steve Petrick home at the end of the day, we are flummoxed by cars that "just happen" to hold up traffic just enough to make sure we miss one traffic light after another.

Sometimes Steve Petrick and I try to outfox Lieutenant Kim by changing our route, cutting through parking lots, or parking a car in the alley behind the office. None of this really works. He always makes us late for lunch which delays products, upsets my lunch, and causes a serious increase in stress.

Getting tired of this, I contacted my old friends at Defense Intelligence Agency, who sent me to the Central Intelligence Agency, who sent me to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Department of Counter-Intelligence.

The FBI confirmed that Kim No Go is indeed operating in Amarillo Texas and that his reports to North Korea describe in some detail about how he spent the budget he was given buying cars, often buying them at auction, refurbishing them, and selling them for a profit before buying more at auction. (Some members of the team are reported to work for Uber, Lyft, Door Dash, etc.) Apparently, this is how they support their lifestyle in Amarillo because the North Korean government cut off their funds in a bid to force them to "do something real and then come home". (Apparently, the North Korean commandoes prefer living in Amarillo to getting shot at and starving in North Korea.) His mysterious appearance on rooftops is explained because he actually holds a real-world job inspecting roofs and roof-mounted air conditioners. His pay for this job also supports his lifestyle.

Hearing this, I told the FBI to "arrest and deport this guy" but was told that he wasn't actually doing anything illegal, and as long as his team was busy making me late for lunch, he wasn't actually doing anything the government would find inconvenient like sabotaging power stations. Beyond that, I was told that the US government "doesn't mind at all" if Kim drives me to an endless series of stress headaches since I have annoyed the government (which cannot legally do anything themselves to punish me). Apparently, "movie night" at the FBI offices around the country features films of Kim No Go's successful campaign to make me late for lunch.

"No Go" trapping you in a parking lot? Makes me think this is one wonderful Shaggy Dog story.

Now, if he were named Yu No Go...

Today I went to have relatively minor surgery to remove a skin cancer from my forehead. I'll spare you the details, and they did remove every speck of it, but it involved a lot of pain. They sent me home with orders not to go back to the office today, tomorrow, and maybe Thursday. Pulling the skin tight to close the hole makes me think there is a tourniquet around my head that someone is pulling tighter and tighter. Between the pain and the pain killers, I am in no shape to work.

They warned me that my eye will swell shut and it has, watering badly. New ice packs help, pressure bandages removed. I am going to have a wicked two inch vertical scar centered above my right eye, making me look like Tyrion Lannister, but that’s the price of not being dead. Still off work.

I did make it to family dinner with the ADB gang. I gave everyone a copper “round” to celebrate our found family. Mine is like a Morgan dollar, Leanna got a Triceratops, Albert got an F15, Steve Petrick a soldier firing a rocket launcher, and Jean a tribute to Tristan & Isolde, the classical lovers.

On the home PC computer I am having a lot of trouble with MICROSOFT EDGE. For the last week it has been a nightmare. I do one thing (any one thing) and it locks up frozen and I have to shift-alt-delete to crash it and start over, after which it does one thing then crashes.

For example, I went to Amazon to order some little packets of drink mix. I clicked the first one to "add to cart" and it said it did that, but then locked up EDGE and I had to crash it. When I went back to Amazon it had lost my cart so I had to start over, but since it freezes every time I add something to the cart, I cannot even buy things one at a time.

I tried using CHROME and it doesn't have the problem but the "import bookmarks" thing imported only 3 of several hundred meaning I have to manually transfer them so switching browsers is not an easy solution.

I hope one of you can tell me what happened and how to fix it before I go crazy. Curiously, I can go all over the ADB website and youtube without having any problems at all.

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Thursday, June 22, 2023 - 12:41 am: Edit

The challenge with that kind of problem is that it could be any of a dozen issues. The 'old standby' fixes are 1) to clear the cache (go to settings, privacy search and services, clear browsing data). 2) Try browsing in InPrivate and see if it does the same thing. If it does check extensions and possibly do a browser reset. (settings, reset settings)

To get the bookmarks out you might try typing edge://favorites/ into edge and choosing Export Favorites. It will save them to a file that can then be manually imported.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, June 22, 2023 - 08:44 am: Edit

Thanks, I will try all of that.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, June 22, 2023 - 10:09 pm: Edit

Clearing the cache didn't fix it. Just how do I "browse in private"? I exported the bookmarks but when I had chrome import the bookmark file it lost about 3/4 of them.

In Edge there will be a little jigsaw-piece-looking icon in the upper right, 'extensions'. Or click the ellipses menu in the upper right and choose 'extensions' from there. Click the 'manage extensions' option. Turn off everything you see there. See if that improves anything.

Edge has also recently introduced some kind of AI-fed 'Discover' sidebar thing. It's annoying and I turn it off, but maybe that's causing issues. If you see a 'b' icon in a chat bubble-looking-thing in the farthest upper right (next to the ellipses) click that. That opens the sidebar. In the upper right of the sidebar is three-dots (these are vertical instead of horizontal like the ellipses) - click those and choose 'notification and app settings'. I'd turn all of these off, too ('show discover', 'automatically show shopping suggestions', etc)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, June 24, 2023 - 12:11 am: Edit

Thanks, I did all of that and will now go test to see if it worked.

No, it did not, same issues continue.
