I called doctor again and they promised to call back with appointment for scan.

SATURDAY MARCH 11
Stayed home to rest. The pain in my knee comes and goes but the pain in my side is constant.

SUNDAY MARCH 12
Stayed home to get what rest I could.

MONDAY MARCH 13
Called doctor's office. They said the scan request had been sent to the company with the shortest waiting list, but they have yet to call me with an appointment. It's not possible to get through their computer to a human, just to leave voicemail, which they ignore.
Hard to sit up at my desk for more than a few minutes at a time.
I sent the rest of the gunboats and interceptors to FCOL.
I helped Petrick with some R6 issues.
Jean and I discussed some pricing changes.
I started digging through F&E CIVIL WARS. It's not in as good a shape as I thought.

TUESDAY 14 MARCH
Got the call scheduling my scan for tomorrow morning. Pain is considerable. Not much got done by me.
Steve Petrick reached page 52 of the 61 page rule book report for R6.
Jean and Mike got orders out.

WEDNESDAY 15 MARCH
Had the scan. Worked on Civil Wars and helped Al on R1.
Steve Petrick made progress on the rulebook for R6.
Jean and Mike got orders out.

THURSDAY 16 MARCH
Bitter cold and rain turning to snow.
Awful pain all day, when I got home I had to take a powerful pain killer which knocked me out. While at the office, I found a repair tech for the broken book binder, did the R1 annexes for Al and Steve, told Jean I would accept no excuses for delaying R1, started on the R1 MSC, talked to the company printing map panels for FC.
Steve P kept pushing on R6, getting to the scenarios.
Jean and Mike got orders out.
The artist doing the CL55 cover sent it in and wow it is spectacular. He also sent some interior art which sparked a discussion between myself and Jean.

MARCH 23 THURSDAY
I just realized I haven't posted in a week. That's mostly due to the pain from the hernia and frustration with the medical bureaucracy. According to GREY'S ANATOMY I should have had corrective surgery by the second commercial on the first day I talked to a medical person. Instead, it's going to be almost four weeks before I officially see a surgeon and he officially tells me how soon I can have this fixed and the pain ended. (Could be 1d6 weeks.)

Anyway, in the interim, some things happened.
Jean and Mike Sparks kept orders going out.
We got the back bathroom fixed.
We got the heater in the back half of the building fixed.
Still waiting for the insurance company to call back about the leaking roof.
I got the Kzinti interceptor FC card done for the newsletter. Mike west did a new SFB fast patrol ship for us. I haven't made much progress on Civil Wars due to the pain. A typical day is 15 minutes of progress followed by an hour of waiting for the pain to go away, then repeat endlessly.
Steve Petrick finished R1 and started working on R6, then had to go back to R1 to fix things Jean found wrong.
Al Beddow took over page layout and got it all done for R1 yesterday. I think the PDF for the rulebook should hit the download stores sometime but it's one darn fool thing after another. Several times we made a list of "everything needed to finish R1" and did everything ont the list only to discover that there are more things that we should have put on the list and forgot. The R1 SSD book is done except for rearranging the pages and having Shawn do the color versions.
At least today (Friday) I get to have my favorite lunch (French dip sandwich and a bowl of strawberries instead of the normal French fries) which is probably the only reason I got out of bed.

MARCH 24TH FRIDAY
I helped Steve wrap up the R1 SSD book. Jean proofread it and found several pages needing fixes.

MARCH 25TH SATURDAY
Steve Petrick and I went to the office to make the fixes. Steve also worked on the R6 SSD book.

MARCH 26TH SUNDAY
Day off to rest.

MARCH 27TH MONDAY
Jean/Mike processed orders.
Jean sent R1-RB to the PDF stores and R1-SSDB to Sean for colloring so it can be released next month.
Steve Petrick worked on R6, getting to the end of the Orion SSDs.
I did the table of contents page for R1-SSDB and laid out the battle plan to get all of R6 done in a few weeks. Jean asked me to do the print edition of AO22 before I started retyping the MSC for R6-RB which is my part of that project.
Most of the day I spent at the hernia surgeon who told me that what I have, painful as it is, cannot be corrected by surgery, so the pain endures for my lifetime, which is kinda depressing. He prescribed a medical velcro thing to reduce the pain, and told me to lose 30 pounds and get back to the gym and it would help.

Shucks, I never remember to update this, like I should, every day.

I don't remember day-to-day details but...
Jean got a lot of orders out.
Steve Petrick finished the R6 SSD fixes on Saturday and then called to say he had discovered a minor thing he had to add on 20 of them.
I got the R6 MSC done and worked on the newsletter stuff.

Leanna ordered me to take the day off to take her to a movie. (65)

At the end of the day, a gust of 50mph wind blew the door of Jean's car into Steve Petrick, almost crushing his fingers and knocking him to the ground. He his the reset switch in the back of his skull and had problems waking up, so Jean took him to the emergency room for a scan to see if he had a skull injury. While bruised and battered, he survived the experience.

WEDNESDAY 5 APRIL
I had major oral surgery (5 hours unconscious as they screwed bolts into my jaw and screwed new teeth to the bolt. I spent the rest of the day in a dream state on pain killers and only at 11pm did I feel like checking on line.

THURSDAY 20 APRIL
Today was the weekly "family dinner" for the ADB gang where we have lunch, don't talk about business, and pretend we're all related.
I had a doctor appointment and was told my oral surgery is healing very well. I got back to the office, signed the lease for the new Kyocera, and struggled to find a "mechanical electrician" to fix one of our bookbinders since the only three in town retired.
Steve Petrick had a doctor appointment and was gone all day.
Jean and Mike got some big orders out, but we're holding a very big minis shipment waiting for the shipment of stand pegs.
Today would have been my brother Christopher's 69th birthday.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, April 22, 2023 - 04:48 pm: Edit

FRIDAY 21 APRIL 2023
We had a major staff meeting to discuss next week's messy schedule and other items. This included finishing the newsletter so it can upload as soon as the R1 SSD book goes live in the web store. This also included making progress on R6-2023 in a different way than before. In the old days, when the rules, scenarios, MSC, and SSD were all finished, it all went to Jean to proofread, then all back to Steve Petrick to fix, then it all went to Shawn to do the color SSDs. That means each person in the chain got a huge pile of work in one dump and it shut down their schedule for days to get it done. This time, I directed Albert (doing the page layout) to finish the Fed ship rules and then give them and the Fed SSDs to Jean. She will then handle the smaller bite of work more efficiently before giving this small bite to Steve P who will then give it back to Jean who will give it to Shawn. So when Albert finishes the last empire (I don't remember, Selts or Jindos) Jean and Steve and Shawn will already have done many of the previous empires. This should get the whole book done faster, but it is still a lot of work over a lot of days.
Steve Petrick cleared the R1 Color SSD book for upload and Jean said she would do that Monday (the B&W one too).
I worked on the final newsletter stuff.
Jean and Mike got some big orders out.

MONDAY MAY 1 2023
Jean gave me the monthly financial reports which looked good.
Jean and Mike worked on orders.
Al worked on formatting R6rev.
Steve P worked on Orion MSSB.
I spent the whole day running errands, every one of which took longer than it had any reason to take. (One stop was a bank deposit and I think the teller took his lunch break between getting my deposit and sending me the receipt.) I got to the last appointment late, got back to the office just as everyone was leaving, and didn't have time to do a "drop off" on the way home as the place was closed.

TUESDAY 2 MAY 2023

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 - 11:36 pm: Edit

Most of the last few days have seen my time focused on cleaning out SPP's storage lockers which must be cleared by the end of May. There were at the start hundreds of boxes in the two lockers but (with some help from Albert) I have made steady progress.
Jean and Mike got orders out, including some big ones.
Albert and Steve have made progress on R6 revision which is now in Jean's hands to proofread. Today I told her to prioritize R6 over orders for a few days and get it out.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 01:07 am: Edit

THURSDAY 11 MAY
Jean, Albert, and Mike did orders.
Petrick worked on Orion MSSB.
I ordered a reprint of basic set covers, told Jean to call a roofing company about the leaks, checked with the company making FC map panels, and spent another hour cleaning out SPP's storage lockers. Jean handed R6 back to me, saying the 1996 document needed me to modernize it before she could productively proofread it. She would just be marking stuff I knew to fix, so I might as well fix it before she proofreads it.

FRIDAY 12 MAY 2023
Jean and Mike did orders.
Steve Petrick worked on the Orion MSSB.
I revised two more pages of R6 for Jean to proofread.
I had minor skin cancer surgery this morning; three were cut out and six were burned off, a typical annual visit. None of them were dangerous, but the "wounds" hurt like the dickens and I got nothing more done. I didn't even have the energy to go to work in SPP's storage lockers (the first evening this week that I did not do that). If it doesn't rain much tomorrow, Albert and I will work on the remaining pile of stuff Saturday afternoon. The goal would be to end the day with half of the small locker cleared.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 - 12:04 am: Edit

SATURDAY 13 MAY
It was raining so Albert could not help me on SPP's storage lockers as there wasn't physical room for both of us. That said, worked inside and got six boxes of jumbled books, comics, and other stuff sorted.

SUNDAY 14 MAY
I continued working in the storage locker. This project is taking me out of the office A WHOLE LOT but it has to be done and I would just as soon get it over ASAP. I made significant progress and got enough space cleared to set up a table inside the locker, meaning I had a place for whichever jumble box I was sorting and the various other boxes (games, comics, books, Army stuff, things to keep, things to dumpster) were all in a row so I no longer had to bend over for a handful of stuff and then move around to wherever I could stick the open boxes.

MONDAY 15 MAY
I spent the afternoon at the locker (not at my desk) and got a bunch of comic boxes ready for the auction company.
I wasn't in the office much but Jean and Mike reported lots of order shipped while SPP worked on the orion MSSB.

TUESDAY 16 MAY
I took the comic boxes to the auction house, took SPP to lunch, then back home so he could catch the shuttle to the doctor. Then i went to the locker and made great progress working all afternoon. Albert came to help and was key to the succesful day. We got a lot of trash and empty boxes thrown away, then sorted more boxes of comics, books, and games.
I wasn't in the office much but Jean and Mike reported lots of order shipped

WEDNESDAY 17 MAY
I took more boxes to auction, then went to the locker by myself and sorted more boxes of stuff.
I wasn't in the office much but Jean and Mike reported lots of order shipped while SPP worked on the orion MSSB.

THURSDAY 18 MAY
Today was the company picnic.
After that, I taught a bariatric class and then worked in the locker until dark. It was pouring rain but I could work inside.

FRIDAY 19 MAY
I got a lot of work done in the office. Jean and Mike shipped orders. The auction house said that because of a big auction they were holding I could not bring any more comic boxes for six days.

SATURDAY 20 MAY
Albert and I achieved victory. The entire locker is packed up and ready for the moving company to take to auction and charity places on next Thursday.

SUNDAY 21 MAY
Leanna decreed that I must rest the entire day.

MONDAY 22 MAY
I got some work done, as did SPP (orions) and Jean/Mike (orders). Albert and I went to the warehouse room where SPP has stored some stuff and got everything going to the auction.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, May 26, 2023 - 03:20 am: Edit

WEDNESDAY 31 MAY 2023
I woke up at 5:30am in the midst of a horrendous thunderstorm. I fed the cats, and then Leanna showed up and I fed her. Then I made my breakfast (frozen block of creamed chipped beef on a couple of slices of chopped up bread), put it in the microwave, and punched 7 minutes. At that point, the power went out, I could only assume due to the thunderstorm, and it stayed out for what turned out to be an hour an a half. A few minutes after it failed, I called the power company to report the outage (certain that somebody else probably had done so by then, but what the heck) and was giving the outage report when I heard someone on the line laughing maniacally.
Later I was able to cook breakfast and go to work.
I worked on R6, Petrick on the Orion book, Jean and Mike on orders.

SPP worked on the Orion book.
Jean and Mike did orders.

TUESDAY 6 JUNE
I suffered a major dental event when one of the bolts they put into my skull tore loose, making a very painful mess that had to be fixed by emergency surgery. I was in so much pain I went home, took opioids, and went to bed for a while. Now the pain is manageable but I'm too groggy to drive back to the office.

THURSDAY
Steve Petrick called in sick, a cough that kept him up all night.
At 3pm, the retirement center called me to take him to the clinic. I did so, but they said it was not flu or Covid and called me to take him home. Despite wearing a mask, I caught his plague.

FRIDAY
Not quite down yet, I got SPP more supplies, but by evening I was seriously sick.
Steve P was lying in bed shivering but said he had been eating, drinking, and taking his pills.

SATURDAY
I was too sick to do anything for SPP or myself. Fever 101, BP 175, cough, delirium, dizzy, other less public issues. The two minutes in which I wrote this were the only cognizant moments today. No answer from Steve P.
