Ithaca Cup - Rescheduled! - December 15, 2018

Hello Star Fleet Battles Fans,

Those of you who've been watching this BBS for awhile know that we usually have our annual Ithaca Cup raid each summer.

But this year we decided to change things up. The harvests are in, and the gifts are plentiful under the Christmas trees. So now is an even better time to go marauding!

Battlefleet Ithaca and Battlefleet SWA will play in a team head-to-head open format, with victory to the team with the most wins. As usual, we are happy to take on as mercenaries any SFB players who would like to join us.

The date is set for Saturday, December 15th, 2018.

We'll start around 12:00 noon, take a break for dinner, and play until it's time to go home (usually 9-10pm or so).

Team SWA carried the day last year.

If you'd like to join us, please reply to this message and we'll get you details. Players of any skill level are welcome!

The 2019 Battlegroup Toronto Star Fleet Battles Tournament

Where: 33 Empress Avenue (at Yonge Street) in North York, Ontario

Who: All SFB players, of all skill levels, are welcome

Cost: $20 per person for the entire weekend, or $10 per person per day

Details: Battlegroup Toronto is proud to host our third annual Star Fleet Battles (SFB) tournament. This year’s tournament will be held in the multi-purpose room of the condominium building at 33 Empress Avenue. This building is located at the southeast corner of Yonge Street and Empress Avenue (known as Park Home Avenue to the west of Yonge Street) in the heart of North York, across the street from Mel Lastman Square. It is part of the Empress Walk commercial-residential complex, and is connected directly to the TTC’s North York Centre subway station. A municipal parking lot is located on the north side of Empress, across the street from the main entrance to the condominium building.

Directions (by subway): Take the TTC’s Yonge subway line (Line 1) to North York Centre station. Take the stairs or escalator up from the station’s platform level to the mezzanine level, then take the exit to Empress Walk on the east side of the station. You will emerge on the lowest level of the mall, right by the entrances to Loblaws and Best Buy. Take the escalator up to the main level of the mall, then find the Second Cup coffee shop. Exit the mall via the corridor beside Second Cup, then turn left and walk to the side entrance of 33 Empress Avenue. Buzz the concierge to gain entry.

Directions (by car): From Highway 401, take the northbound exit to Yonge Street. Proceed north on Yonge Street. About 400 metres north of Highway 401 you will cross Sheppard Avenue. Proceed another 600 metres until you reach Empress Avenue (known as Park Home Avenue to the west of Yonge Street). Turn east onto Empress Avenue. You will immediately notice the municipal parking lot on the north side of Empress. After you park, cross the street to the south side and proceed to the main entrance of 33 Empress Avenue. Buzz the concierge to gain entry.

On Site Amenities: Empress Walk and the surrounding neighborhood include a wide selection of eating places and other retail establishments. You can also get prepared meals from the Loblaws supermarket or a coffee from the Tim Hortons kiosk located at the lowest level of the mall. The multi-purpose room includes a kitchen with a refrigerator for storing food and drinks.

Playing Materials: We have a good supply of tournament maps, counters and forms, but players are encouraged to bring their own note paper, pencils and other materials, if possible.

RSVPs: If you'd like to join us, please post here or contact either Sebastian Palozzi at sebastian.palozzi@gmail.com or Kosta Michalopoulos at kosmic@bell.net. You may also reach out to us on Facebook.

And thanks to Ted Griffith for suggesting the use of his condominium building!

I'm heading to Toronto tomorrow morning. It's an 8-hour drive, so I should be there later afternoon/evening.

I'd be happy to have some carpool company!

Ithaca Cup - Saturday, February 8, 2020

Those of you who've been reading posts here for awhile know that we usually have our annual Ithaca Cup raid each summer.

POSTPONED - Ithaca Cup

It seems the residents of Ithaca saw the raiding longships on the horizon.
Their prayers to Ullr, son of Thor, were answered.
The fjords and roads are blocked by ice and snow.

The Ithaca Cup raid is postponed. We will work to set a new date soon and announce that here.

Keep your axes sharp!

Canceled - Ithaca Cup

Cornell University has announced that the campus is closing for the rest of the semester.
Thus, we will not have a place to meet for the Ithaca Cup SFB day, scheduled for April 4th.

We will look to reschedule some time in the future.

Watch this space for more news.

Wishing you a virus-free Spring...

Star Fleet Battles Rated Ace Tournament at the Las Vegas Open!

Friday January 28th - Sunday January 30th, 2022 at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Rio is just off-Strip, and the LVO will have a room block price available.

Registration opens next month, I will update with more details as I finalize them with the convention organizers. It will require both a convention badge and event ticket, prices part of the forthcoming details.

Planned format is one and a half to two days of Patrol, followed by single-elimination.

SFB Rated Ace Tournament - Las Vegas Open 2022 - January 28th-30th, 2022 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV

Registration for the Las Vegas Open 2022 is now live! You will need both the 3-Day Convention Access Pass as well as a ticket for the tournament itself.

Tickets/passes are refundable through November 30, 2021 and transferable through January 12, 2022 - see the full refund policy. If you believe there is a good chance you will be attending, purchasing your ticket sooner rather than later will be helpful in showing the event organizers there is demand for this so they won't reallocate space from us if other events go over.

Room block link is in the post prior to this one.

This will be a three-day event featuring Patrol battles Friday and into Saturday before switching to three or four rounds of single elimination (depending on turn out) through Sunday. In the event we have at least 8 players but less than 16, it will be run as a Squadron Major event.

Please contact me with any questions you may have.

Bumping the LVO announcement!

No significant news as yet, beyond I have just ordered the second set of TCC mini's for use there. Once those are in hand I can start getting them painted. Otherwise working on back scene stuff, including prize support planning.

Star Fleet Battles in Vegas is still happening! See the above posts for links for registration and the room block. Come fly one of the fistful of Rolumans!

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, November 15, 2021 - 06:36 pm: Edit

Sadly, I have to announce the LVO SFB Tournament is being cancelled. I will be working with the LVO staff to ensure those that have signed up are notified, refunded for the event ticket, and to expedite any other changes or refunds they want to make.

Thanks.

Dal,

Do they have a web site up yet? The google searches keep bringing me to advertising sites.

Battlegroup Toronto will be playing a SFB demo at TABScon 59.
Our first group event in a long time will take place on Saturday, June 4th, at TABSCon 59. This mini-con is put on by the Toronto Area Boardgaming Society and will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 11, which is located at 9 Dawes Road, in the east end of Toronto, near the TTC station at Danforth Ave. and Main St.

https://www.facebook.com/events/954152905236711

Battlegroup Toronto has secured a table at the event, and we plan on putting on a customized group scenario " Assault on Base Station 416" involving some of Kent Ing’s masterful miniature starships. SFB fans, players, and interested parties are welcome to drop by to say hello or join for a turn or two or six or seven.

The event runs from 9am to 9pm, and admission is only $5 for the whole day.
Please come join us on Saturday, June 4th. It will be good to see you in person after such a long hiatus.

Fabulous! Since I am 20 min away I will have no excuse

By Jeff Guthridge (Jeff_Guthridge) on Monday, February 13, 2023 - 07:22 pm: Edit

I'd love to see the write up of that scenario as its unlikely to ever be published officially due to licensing reasons.

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Monday, February 13, 2023 - 10:09 pm: Edit

Cool, it will be good to meet you

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Sunday, February 19, 2023 - 11:43 am: Edit

Well they cancelled the SFB game at Dundracon with no explanation at all. Lawrence and anyone else thinking about coming, if you're here I'm definitely free and up for a game.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Sunday, February 19, 2023 - 02:13 pm: Edit

I didn’t actually see the scenario running but between the open gaming and miniatures gaming this Con looks pretty successful. I had about 5 hours today to visit but surely will be back next year.

Star Blazers, Star Trek Ascendancy, Space Base Command Station, and Twilight Imperium all looked great

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 - 10:31 pm: Edit

Yep, I was in a 13 hour Twilight Imperium. I'll probably run a SFB next year.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Thursday, February 23, 2023 - 07:21 pm: Edit

If you were in the one on that inside corner I walked by several times to check progress. I also saw them setting up an old school CARWARS game (next to the TI game) just about 30 min before I headed out.

I also saw a TI game setting up outside LOL...boardgames with many pieces outside (even in CA) with no protection from the wind is a bad idea
