I was asked:
=========
I'd like to know your thoughts about individuals making modified ship cards for FedCom. Specifically, what is the legality of doing it? What do you think about it?
These would be diagrams similar to those that exist "out there" for SFB. They would be in color and use the same type of format as the ones currently made for FedCom.
There was a brief discussion about this on the FedCom board regarding doing ships for the Mirror Universe Federation. ADB may not have the license to do them, but could individuals do them? And could they be posted on the Internet for free download?

This subject is complex, but here goes...
1. Ships from SFB or other SFU/ADB products: No, let us do them.
2. Ships you invent by yourself: postable under our internet policy, which requires you to "sign them over" to us to that somebody doesn't collect 72 of them and publish his own book. Note, if you seriously think we might publish the ship, send it to us first as we might decide not to publish an otherwise cool ship just because it's already free on the internet.
3. Ships based on somebody else's copyrighted work: No, violates copyright. Lots of people do it, but you're not going to post links on my BBS as I do not support stealing copyrights.
4. Ships loosely based on some concept from somebody somewhere: Gets iffy, somewhere between 2 and 3. Trek had a mirror universe but never did ships for it. So you could propose your version of a ship for an alternate evil universe under #2.
