Federation Admiral began as a project by Jay Waschak to create a Federation Commander campaign system using the VBAM campaign system. It quickly moved beyond that. In one direction, it was modified to fit with FC, SFB, Starmada, or ACTASF. In another direction, much of the original VBAM material had to be replaced with material that fit into the Star Fleet Universe. This project turned out to be much more work than originally thought, and was rescheduled three times (to 2012, 2014, and 2016). It finally reached the top of Steve Cole's "to do list" in June 2016.

The preliminary product information page with sample work-in-progress pages is here:
http://www.starfleetgames.com/FederationAdmiral.shtml

FedAdm is not related to a possible future supplement for the previous Campaign Designer's Handbook and the two products cannot be used together.

We briefly explored the idea that FedAdm might become the long wanted "Module V Operations" but later determined that this theory is not workable. Module V remains a separate product with no connection to FedAdm.

I'm not thinking to use a map. It should be possible to do a battle with more than two sides I think.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Friday, September 16, 2016 - 06:09 pm: Edit

I can do that. I have a version of the map that looks like a big plus sign to allow up to three attacking forces and one defending force to converge on a starbase / planet in the center.

I built some fleets in F&E and FedCmdr to test different combat systems.

They may not be the best optimal fleets, but they should create "fair fights". I haven't done any with carriers yet because I want to test the basic system first.

That was rude. I asked Douglas a question and he answered it. What's it to you what it "proves"??

I did not mean any rudeness, I don't really understand what is being contended and was hoping for some clarification.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Friday, September 16, 2016 - 08:47 pm: Edit

A case of tone not translating well to text, I suppose. Moving on .....

This is the chart I came up with for my semi-tactical combat system:

RANGE =>012345678
BASE200%167%133%100%100%75%75%50%25%
SHIP200%150%100%100%75%75%50%25%0%
PFs200%150%100%75%50%0%0%0%0%
FIGHTERS150%100%100%50%0%0%0%0%0%

This is the number of dice rolled: multiply the unit's attack strength by the percent for the range to the target. Each "6" is a hit.

Each box in the grid is roughly four or five SFB hexes across. It's all abstract, so I'm not defining it better than "roughly".
Ships can move one or two boxes per turn, or three if they reduce firepower.
If they move zero, they can increase firepower but only out to range three.

Garth, please give Eitzen a grain of salt when he types on this forum. I admit, he is an abrupt, almost Vulcan conversationlist and hasn't grasped the concept that words written are not reflected the same as words spoken, and therefore need to be carefully crafted.
And this, by no means an insult to Eitzen, just a matter of my own personal experience, both distance and not that too recent.
Just talk to him, listen to him as a complete Vulcan. As much as I cannot stand him, I actually like him.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, September 17, 2016 - 12:49 am: Edit

I can't disagree, Glenn, but as I said ... time to move on.

Glenn, I'd prefer that you don't label me and just let people come to their own conclusions.

I'll speak for myself if I feel there is need.

I very much understand the difference between writing and speech. I have found that it is best on the internet to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than take insult at things that might not be meant that way, otherwise one tends to find insult where there is none.

YMMV.

Knock it off on the personal commentary.

Three years later...

First, my apologies nothing got done. Three people volunteered to write the new combat system, I waited and waited and waited, but nothing arrived. By then, I was too sick to work on much of anything. Remember that it was not THAT long ago that I came within hours of death due to blood poisoning and shock. Lots has happened.

And frankly, Paul Brown's deranged rants (on other forums after he got kicked out of here for rudeness, lying, making up stuff that never happened, and calling me various combinations of stupid, incompetent, dishonest, and other things) just made my stomach so sour that I didn't miss him or this project.

Now, for what it's worth, I am as you know much better. I helped Steve P finish the Gorn book, help Jean finish GURPS, finished Merchants, just two days ago got to the last page of ACTASF2, did CL53, and a few other things. I leave for Hawaii in a week and will about 1 October select a small number of projects to work on during Oct-Dec. Maybe FA will be one of them, or wait to 2020.

Mostly I am just seeing if anyone still wants this.

I (and my local game group of 5) would be buying this should it ever appear. Campaign play is our favorite venue.

By Steven Pow Jr (Asmoridin) on Friday, September 06, 2019 - 09:54 am: Edit

I am also 100% interested in this.

By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Friday, September 06, 2019 - 11:09 am: Edit

Definitely interested.

By Drew Klenotic (Tillek) on Sunday, September 08, 2019 - 03:22 pm: Edit

Very interested. Have been for awhile. I've been wanting to do some campaign based play for awhile now and the new job I started a few months ago is actually going to allow for that.

As for the local guys though that have shown interest, FC would probably be better than SFB for their time constraints, so I've really been waiting for this.
