I would love to see ePacks for the Borak and Peladine. I would prefer to see them in single-empire packs, i.e. all Borak and all Peladine, but I'll buy any ePack with Borak, Peladine, Carnivon, or Paravian material in it.

I am an Andromedan fan and would like to see another Andromedan ePack, although I don't know what you'd put in it, or even if Andros are popular enough to justify the effort of creating another ePack for them.

I am going through the whole FC area getting rid of obsolete posts and dead topics. If you always meant to archive something, you might want to do that.

Index of Scenarios 48

By Art Trotman (Drneuro) on Sunday, March 24, 2019 - 04:05 am: Edit

Hey guys, speaking of scenarios, I was curious about what kind of scenarios the other players enjoy. I would love it if you guys could maybe list five or maybe even just three of your fave Federation Commander scenarios so far. And maybe what Empire Or even specific ship or ship type that you guys preferred to play in scenarios. I hope that no one finds that I am being intrusive but I just love hearing about what my fellow players enjoy playing and enjoy flying. :-)

By Art Trotman (Drneuro) on Sunday, March 24, 2019 - 04:31 am: Edit

I should also mention that players could use the Master ship charts and scenarios list, both found in Commander’s Circle, To remind players of ships and scenarios posted before March 2017 as the rest can be found in Communiques posted since then.
Also, may I ask for my fellow players to maybe include their favourite modules? Such as Romulan Border or Battleships Attack or Reinforcements Attack or War & Peace etc.
I think that it would be cool to hear from players about their likes and favourites. I will of course submit my own favourites in these categories later on today as I want to think about it a bit first. :-)

By Art Trotman (Drneuro) on Monday, March 25, 2019 - 07:19 pm: Edit

Okay for my selection for three of my favourite scenarios ;
Refiner’s Fire(Communique #7), Ceasefire Collapse (Romulan Border ), and a seven-way tie for third place-If you can’t beat them pay them (Orions Attack), The Ophiunia Raid (Communique #52), Cavalry Charge (Communique #101), Battle for Organia(CL#34), and Battle of the Long Claws (Distant Kingdom-option replacing one of the LDR allied factions with Hydran force for LDR/Hydran vs Lyran), The Quick and the Dead (CL#40Supplement) and What Lies Beneath(CL#40)[Sorry!]

DOES ANYBODY know of any X-ships published for FedCom other than Klingon F5X, Kzinti FFKX, and Lyran CCX? (Those were in communique.)

By Stephen Stewart (Stevestewart) on Monday, May 27, 2019 - 03:54 pm: Edit

Fed DWX (Comm 147); Tholian DDX (Comm 149) are the only ones I could find.

Lyran CCX in Communique #161.
Tholian DDX in Communique #149.
Kzinti FKX in Communique #148.
Federation DWX in Communique #147.
Klingon F5X in Communique #146.

Was there a link for a new scenario in the Feb 2020 Hailing Frequencies? I looked, but missed seeing it if it was there.

Are new scenarios going to be published via Hailing Frequencies now that Communique is over?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 - 10:02 am: Edit

Not in Feb. future issues will have a variety of stuff including scenarios.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Friday, April 24, 2020 - 12:59 pm: Edit

Last night's Talkshoe recording took a look at Federation Commander. One of the topics which was raised was the issue of Squadron Scale versus Fleet Scale; Paul argues that it does not go far enough to make the game system work more quickly for fleet-level scenarios.

For my part, when I think of FC, I default to Squadron Scale, as that more closely matches the "historical" ships seen over in Star Fleet Battles. But I was wondering how many FC players here on the BBS preferred either Squadron or Fleet Scale, or if they enjoyed both scales equally.

Actually, one thought I had was to perhaps offer a Borders of Madness option where a Fleet Scale battle could have 4 Impulses per turn instead of 8, with each movement sub-pulse distance doubled. (As in, if you set a Baseline Speed of 24, you'd cover 6 hexes per Impulse, moving two hexes per relevant sub-pulse.) I don't know if that would go anywhere towards speeding up larger Fleet scale battles, or if such speeding-up would even be necessary; though there is a precedent of sorts over in the SFB Cadet rules.

By Sebastian Palozzi (Sebastian) on Friday, April 24, 2020 - 02:43 pm: Edit

I've never used the Fleet Scale side of my ship cards and I probably never will.

I don't look to Fed Comm for a faster game--I play it because it has fewer moving parts and it's easier for me to play than SFB. If that results in a game that ends in a couple of hours well that's fine but speed is just not that important to me--also, I'm lucky to have Fed Comm players in Battlegroup Toronto who meet regularly (in more normal times); we have often played Fed Comm scenarios that stretch over several weekly sessions.

What matters most to me is the SFU ships. The ships have always been the main attraction for me and it's very important to me that they're as consistent as possible in the SFU.
I like the way ships fall apart and I like testing their durability in a long battle and I like getting the 'feel' of a particular ship. After a while flying my favourite ships is like slipping on an old boot. I'd be missing all of that if I used Fleet Scale.

There are options out there for fast starship battles. I've tried some and they're fun but I like the Fed Comm pace just where it is.

While working at home this past weeks, I have been cleaning up old junk and reacquainting myself with SFU. I just found my set of FC and was reading through it again.

About Fleet Scale:
I have noticed that the plasma ships don't seem to lose their heavy weapons or even have the sizes of the torpedoes reduced. I read through the rules and cannot seem to find anything there either.

Could someone help me out in understanding the balance with these?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, April 25, 2020 - 04:39 pm: Edit

So far as I know, every ship, plasma or otherwise, loses half of its weapons of all types. Can you cite a specific case? I flipped through the ships in Romulan Border and they all have their torpedoes reduced. Two S and two F becomes one of each for the Gorn BC, for example.

By Greg Ernest (Gernest) on Saturday, April 25, 2020 - 05:46 pm: Edit

I only have limited stuff from years ago. What I can lay hands on in the past few days in Booster Pack #0 from 2006. In it, the plasma ships are not reduced. Cannot find my other stuff; may need to rebuy.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, April 27, 2020 - 01:40 pm: Edit

I dug into the records and found three different versions of Booster Zero. I don't remember anything that long ago, but the first version had some unreduced plasma ships. Not sure why but later versions did not so whatever we were trying to accomplish didn't work and we did it the same way we did all of the other ships.

By Greg Ernest (Gernest) on Friday, May 22, 2020 - 04:32 pm: Edit

I am looking through the products to see if there is a base card which has a Fleet Scale BATS on one side. Does one exist? Which product might it be in?

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Friday, May 22, 2020 - 06:21 pm: Edit

Well, you have two choices:

1) Go download Communique 13. It has the fleet scale ship, plus a squadron scale version that covers the plasma empires, too.

2) Reinforcements Attack has the "augmented" BATS, which is updated with augmentation modules and is a more direct SFB-like BATS. It is ship card #210

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Friday, May 22, 2020 - 06:33 pm: Edit

To circle back to the plasma question, there were originally two thoughts on how to handle the plasma weapons:
1) Half-the-number. This is what happened to the other weapons. Unfortunately, there is no way to just cut the number in half when you have 3xPl-F or 1xPl-S and 2xPl-F.
2) Half-the-damage. This would let the plasma arrangements be the same, but each weapon would do half the damage of the "full size" verions. Unfortunately, this made the damage charts horrible and meant that plasma ships could take damage better than other ships.

Eventually, it was decided to go with option #1, though there were some tests with option #2. You must have got some of the option #2 test ships. From at least Romulan Border (where plasma ships were introduced "for real") onward, every plasma ship follows option #1.

I hope that gives a bigger picture.

By Greg Ernest (Gernest) on Saturday, May 23, 2020 - 03:22 pm: Edit

Mike,

Is the one from C13 available as a separate card like other spare ones in the online store?

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Saturday, May 23, 2020 - 06:20 pm: Edit

No. The one from C13 is just in the C13 PDF and printable from that. There is no laminated version.

By John Williams (Johndw) on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 - 12:41 pm: Edit

I forgot about keeping questions related to sub-topic, so re-posting them here, I hope it's the right spot?

QUESTION
Also, I see there are quite a few "(Faction) Ship Card Pack #n" available to get on DriveThruRPG, I know I may be thinking about this a little backwards, and that normally you might suggest getting "FC: Academy" to start and expanding out from there?

QUESTION
But has there been any thought on creating a ship pack that would be a companion to the "FC Reference Rulebook" for new players? Like maybe a free PDF collection of all the ship cards that have been released for free via other things all collected together, or just a collection of a variety of ships from different factions? Or does something like that already exist?
