At this point, we are 33% finished. Jean wants me to point out that we did not start at 0% two days ago but that most of the first 25% were done over the last six months. It's just how things happen with CapLog; we accumulate stuff until we "start working on it".
Jean also wants to point out that this does NOT mean that 33% of the 144 pages are finished and printed out. Actually, it means that ONE page is finished and printed out, 25 more are in some stage of proofreading, 28 more are in the book but not ready for proofreading, and so on. Actually, of the 144 pages, we actually know in very specific terms what is going to be on 96 of them; the other 48 we have only general ideas. I know that there will be three pages of starmada but I have no idea what Daniel is going to do. I know that there will be four pages of ACTA but haven't officially replied to Tony's list of things he might do. Space is allocated to FCOL and SFBOL and F&EOL but no text has been received. The 11 pages of SFB battlegroup is in the book but I haven't read a word of it yet.
We plan to finish the book four weeks from Monday and probably release it a few days after that. We cannot do the cover without a much better idea of what is in the issue.

We got to the end of Friday with 38% complete, which included 7.5 actually finished pages.
Note: due to fractions this won't add up right.
Two more are waiting for Jean to proofread them.
20 more are waiting for me to fix things Jean marked, of which 15 are the story.
another 35 are essentially complete but not given to Jean yet. Some of them I may forget to give her because she'll just argue with me about what we need to be printing.
Another 47 I at least have some idea/notes of what will be on them. I know how the table of contents will look but I haven't roughed it into shape yet. Two snapshots are just notes. Jean hasn't done her news yet. Awards are not finished. Steve hasn't sent me the SFB term papers I don't think. Jean and Steve are still trying to corral the monster. Vanaxilth is 20 pages of stuff waiting for me to pick six. Steve has done the update but not sent it to me. Marines and SFBF are just a twinkle in my eye.
And finally 30 have basically nothing done. Those include FCOL, SFBOL, and Warlord I am waiting for Paul to send, an FC scenario or two, a couple of SFB scenarios I will pick from the file, Anarchist, Starmada, 8 SSDs and their descritions and MSC (8 are done), two FC ships to be selected, and a couple of other odds and ends.

I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that I'm very much looking forward to it and am patiently awaiting its publication.
(Aw, who am I kidding? I can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on it!! )
In all seriousness and on a personal level, while I have accidentally contributed to a couple previous editions, this is the first Captain's Log which I've actively tried contributing to and, as such, it already holds a special place for me.
As always, I appreciate your hard work and high standards and know you will make it something of high quality to enjoy.

Bisen Self-Defense Force
Who sent/posted that (sometime in 2019). We plan to use it and you deserve to have your name on it.

End of Saturday: I have pushed this to 42% finished. Still only 7.5 completed pages since Jean doesn't work Saturday, but there are a LOT of pages in her clipboard for Monday. I found the lost four-page update article Steve sent so it went from no idea to Jean is proofreading it, gaining a percentage point.

Jeff, what input did you send? I want to make sure it gets considered.

I participated in the Battleforce 550 conversation (Archaeo-Tholians) and it appears that a question I had regarding EY plasma was turned into a tactic/term paper. Both of those are firsts for me (after nearly forty years, I finally worked up the noive ).

Glad to hear its coming along but I really dislike duplicate SSDs in products published so close to each other (the four preview ones).
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, August 17, 2020 - 02:24 am: Edit |
And yet, they help sell the product. Which is why Jean put them in. With 144 pages everyone has a few they don’t want, and we give better value for the money than anyone else.
Given the cost of a finished and checked SSD, to leave them out means you get four extra pages of songs (the complete Sabaton collection) not four more SSDs. Or maybe we move four pages of proposals board from the supplemental file into the main book.
There is a budget of how much work we can put into a log before we loose money on it.

Is there anyway t54 can be preordered
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, August 21, 2020 - 04:51 pm: Edit |
T54?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, August 21, 2020 - 04:53 pm: Edit |
We aren't ready to take orders for CL54 yet. The credit card company wants us to ship everything within 30 days of taking your money and we're not entirely sure how many days away it is. Probably less than that, but it would be a catastrophic mess to go past that and there is really no benefit to you or us to start taking orders any sooner than 1 Sept and maybe not right that moment.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, August 21, 2020 - 07:24 pm: Edit |
At this point we have 24 finished pages, 59% done.
Steve Petrick needs to pick one more ship to finish the SSD section.

Before lunch I moved 7 pages from "SVC to make corrections" to "JSB to check changes."
