I didn't much care for their take on the Gorn (or how if fit into one character's back story). The Gorns deserve better then being reduced to a cheap rip off of a certain well known franchise.

And is it new that Pike knows not just HOW he will die but WHEN as well? How could he possibly know that? Do visions of the future come with a date stamp?

It was okay. Definitely the most "Star Trek" vibe of anything produced in the last 20 years (officially at least), but the bar to me has been pretty low with recent offerings.

The updates to the ship and sets are nice update while still being respectful to the originals.

Character wise I like M'Benga and the nurse, but she is Chapel in name only. Having a relative of Khan and Kirk's brother serving on the ship before Kirk is extremely contrived.

The references to events from Discovery were just confusing for those who don't watch that show, including myself.

The story itself was fine, but the concepts (first contact gone wrong, two warring sides convinced into peace) are nothing we haven't seen before and have been done better. I was actually bored with it. And what is a "warp bomb"? Why not just "anti-matter" bomb?

Will still see how the next episode or two are.

A Kzinti Ensign was in the last episode, he's had a previous episode where he had lines. He was part of a group of four Ensigns that episode, all were named except him. Being a Kzinti, it may be that he does not have a name (this sort of thing came up in Star Trek the animated series in the 70s).

Lower decks also has a Caitian crew member on the ship, first one with speaking lines that we've seen since (again) TAS.
