Solid trailer. I'll give it a watch.

Strange New Worlds is apparently doing a muppet episode in season 4. The cast are going to be replaced with puppets.
Yes, this is were modern Star Trek is at now.
While Star Trek has always had lighter moments, they were once or twice in a 25-episode season. Not every other episode.

Partly a consequence of 10 episode seasons I guess.

While I sympathize with folks looking to keep a more serious tone to the episodes, as a fan of the Muppet Show back in the day, I can't wait to see it.

St:TNG was better first season. They've had several dog episodes in a row, with the last one off to a bad start but then "OK."
Muppets. Ug.

Guys, lighten up… after all, Star Fleet Battles gave us…
“…The Creature that ate Sheboygan III…”
How is that any worse the the Cookie Monster?

At the time we wrote that scenario, SPI had published a game titled THE CREATURE THAT ATE SHEBOYGAN. We were poking friends at that company. We did that a lot.
Phil Kosnett was, at the time, a game designer for SPI, who designed WAR IN THE ICE, a game fighting for Antarctic resources. Phil credited me by name in his designer notes for talking him into including a frozen alien race as a sci-fi alternative.
Jack Radey was a friend of mine, despite being an outright communist, who designed games for his own company. His first game was Korsun Pocket.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy?
Looks more like Star Trek: Starfleet Academy 90210
Please, I don't want a dorm room drama and romance show.

I've enjoyed every Star Trek series so far, from the original up through Strange New Worlds. I fully expect I'll enjoy Starfleet Academy as well. The trick is to them for what they are, not for what you would write up yourself. Infinite diversity in infinite combinations, after all.

The production of Discovery was a woke, in-your-face, total farce -- it was not Trek -- it disrespected the entire franchise. It deserves to be a forgotten nightmare.
...but that's my take...

I, too, strongly disliked ST: Discovery. It was painful in terms of how they hammered you over the head with their woke ideology - and they did so in a puerile, emotion-laden fashion.
ST: Strange New Worlds is not as bad. I expect Trek to be liberal, and STG: SNW is indeed that, but it's tolerable. It's generally much better written. If they would only get away from the bizarre episodes...
More Gorn. Less cartoon, Muppet, etc.

Ah yes, "woke". By all means, please do define "woke".
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Thursday, August 14, 2025 - 11:03 am: Edit |
According to Google AI…
“… Woke" and "wokeness" are terms that have evolved from their origins within the Black community to become highly politicized and often divisive concepts in contemporary discourse. Initially, "woke" served as a term for awareness of social injustices and systemic inequalities, particularly those faced by Black communities. However, it has been co-opted and redefined by some, particularly on the political right, to represent a perceived overreach of progressive or liberal ideologies. ”

ST Discovery was awful. Most of the recent Trek has been disappointing ranging to awful. Strange New Worlds is disappointing but not as bad as STD.

Folks, the alligators are on the move to this topic. I strongly suggest that the "woke" discussion ends unless the sentence is, "I woke up this morning and love Star Trek."

I woke up from my nap and still think STD should never have been done and that the writers and producers should be in prison.

>> Strange New Worlds is disappointing but not as bad as STD
I much prefer the older Star Treks to the new. I've watched a few episodes of SNW and it seems better. It is at least watchable.
One of the things I really like about ST generally is the skillfull ways messages were delivered. Observations about life and society that seemed relevant, but also reflecting the complexity of reality and the hard choices people must make sometimes. The newer STs don't really speak to me on that level.
Or maybe I'm just getting old?

@Mike: I suspect it's some of both (i.e., writing isn't as good - and we're getting older and more discerning).
By Chuck Strong (Raider) on Thursday, August 14, 2025 - 06:28 pm: Edit |
I woke up this morning and love Star Trek. STD pretends to be Trek but is not. Just because the wacko producers put a Trek label on it doesn't make it so.
Just like "The Acolyte" was dressed-up to look like Star Wars...

I've never watched a single episode of discovery.
And I will fiercely avoid ever doing so!

This weeks episode of Strange New Worlds was pretty good. Classic old Trek style storyline, Kirk's first command in a crisis as acting captain of the Farragut with Spock, Chapel, Uhura and Scotty on board. Enterprise in peril with Pike, M'Benga, Ortegas, Pelia and L'ann. Kirk learning how far he can push his luck while also listening to his crew.
Lots of fun.
