FORGOTTEN RUIN

Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Games and Science Fiction: Sci-Fi (other than Trek): FORGOTTEN RUIN
  Subtopic Posts   Updated

This topic is for discussion of the FORGOTTEN RUIN book series and the tactical game spinoff of that series. For those who do not know, here is the gist of it.

In the near future, a "Chinese Nano Plague" sweeps the world, killing people and (worse) destroying technology. It has other bizarre effects. Scientists say that:
1. Everyone on Earth will die in one or two years.
2. We can send planeloads of people through a supersized version of the Star Gate three years into the future to rebuild society.
3. The military is in charge of this super secret program so naturally they're sending 95% male hard core combat troops (rangers, green berets, Marines) into the future.
4. Fifty planes are headed for the future, each with 150 combat troops, tons of food ammo medical supplies, and a "forge".
5. The forge is a five-ton machine which can rearrange atoms. Feed it the right stuff and it can produce anything from beer to rifles to ammunition to drones.
=====
Things go horribly impossibly wrong...
6. A few people survived but the nano-plague ate a D&D rulebook and turned more people into orcs, dwarves, elves, centaurs, lizard people.
7. The 50 planes are scattered not across the Earth but across time, a few centuries apart. It's rare for two planes to find each other.

Anybody else reading this series?

I'm not reading the series but from your description the premise seems a little... bizarre.

If you're going to rebuild society after a near extinction, don't you kind of... need some females?

One would assume so, but the one reference to the male/female balance concept is obscure and might only apply to certain aircraft. I am fairly sure that USAF General Turgidson's plane had 90% unmarried female officers.

In the finest traditions of the Klingon Emergency Boom crew one presumes?
