You know, something I just thought of, the movie would have had a way different ending if they let Joshua play Super Tic-Tac-Toe instead.

Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2 earlier today.
As with the original Switch, this device is a "hybrid" handheld/console system. Not much has been formally detailed about it thus far, though it is noted that many - if not quite all - physical and digital Switch games should run on the new platform.
A Nintendo Direct is to be posted to YouTube on the 2nd of April, with more in-depth info on what the Switch 2 has to offer.

Well, I thik the Swtich is perhaps one of the best inventions (along with LEGO).
Making 2 half controllers into a full controller, via the slide on clip is just a genuis idea (and making it a fixed addition in Switch 2 is even better).
Our youngest son has one - and his similar aged Cousin has one too, and usually one of them will bring theirs along when we meet up for various things - and they love playing together.
(I think the 'Lite' version though is far less than ideal..... that perhaps was a dropped ball idea....)
It's what the PSP should have been......
Avoiding 'we need more powerful Chip and sp launching a new console every 2-3 years' type approach has I think won Nintendo alot of fans?

I think their focusing on the fun of the game experience vs. the raw technical performance of the gear has found Nintendo a nice profitable market.
I remember when the Wii came out and the reviewers blasted it for being underpowered. But it had a lot of fun games and really appealed to a lot of folks who weren't necessarily considered hardcore gamers.

Actually, I would argue that the Lite is a somewhat more ergonomic design than the standard or OLED Switch models... as a handheld. Not least since it was designed to be a single unit, rather than three units assembled as one.
Also, the Lite has its uses as a "secondary" system, if one has a standard or OLED model as their "primary" device.

As for the Switch 2, one aspect I'll be curious to learn more of is whether or not the ZL and ZR buttons on the new controllers - or, indeed, those on a would-be new version of the Pro Controller - have analogue or digital triggers.
After getting used to the analogue "trigger" buttons on the Steam Deck OLED (when playing in handheld mode), and on the DualSense controller (to use when the Deck is in docked mode), it would seem like somewhat of a step backwards for Nintendo's new system to not have this feature.
That said, this would likely be more of an issue for certain third-party titles (such as driving games, perhaps?) that end up on multiple platforms; I would not expect this to be a problem for first-party Nintendo games made with the Switch 2 in mind.

Wii Sport - the best (drunk??**) game ever??
Gary
I agree - but only 1 person can play on the Lite model...... taking a controller each just makes the Switch more family/friends friendly!!!
** - My mother might have had 1 too many - but she thought the system was broken as it wouldn't allow her to play tennis ("Mum, for the 64th time, thats a reply it's doing - you have to wait or click that button" )

Has anyone here ever played "Star Trek Ascendency"? What are your thoughts. There is a a big "all-in" on Gamefound that is tempting.

I have much of the first edition. I quite like it. I don't think I will shell out again for the new edition though as even the upgrade option for existing players is pretty expensive. I will likely download the updated rulebook and maybe adapt some of the sequence of play changes that eliminate some of the downtime.

Nick- that sounds reasonable. I believe they have a pack for people who have the previous edition.
I will be a first time buyer. Is the game fun enough for it's price?

I think so, if you have the group to play it with. Expansion, exploration, tech research, combat, space hazards, etc...
The new edition has some kind of solo mode vs nonplayer empires, but I am not familiar with that.

"Monopoly Reinvents Its Board Game Without Paper Money"
The banker is gone. Paper money is gone.
Everyone uses the free app on their smart phone.
Don't know about everyone else, but sounds too expensive to me. Getting smart phones ($3000?)and plans ($125?/mo) for 5 pre-teen grandchildren to play a board game seem exorbitant.
Plus it takes away development of math skills.
*sigh*

Smart phones are about $30 for a basic version. Just get the prepaid ones and link them to your wifi.

Earlier today, Nintendo streamed a one-hour Direct for the Switch 2, with more info on what the new system has to offer - and how much it is being offered for.
The device is both larger and more powerful than its predecessor, with new Joy-Con 2 controllers (which do not appear to have analogue triggers, alas) and a new dock.
Certain Switch 1 games are set to have paid "upgrade packs" offered: these include The Legend of Zelda series titles Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
In the US, the base model is priced at US$449.99; in Canada, it'll be sold at CA$629.99. There'll also be a limited edition bundle with a download code for the new Mario Kart World game.
Beyond this, new accessories include a Pro Controller 2, as well as a camera add-on.
It's set to be launched on the 5th of June, 2025.

It was announced that Catalyst Game Labs has acquired Iron Wind Metals. It is an amicable merger. All staff is retained and the previous owner will continue in some capacity while being time to care for his ill wife.

I just thought of an interesting idea for a chess variant. Set-up and all rules remain the same, except for the knights & bishops. Every time a knight is moved, is becomes a bishop. Every time a bishop is moved, it becomes a knight. This is mandatory, there is no option to leave the piece the same type upon completing the move. The effect is immediate, meaning that moving a bishop to a diagonal to the opposing King does not result in 'check' as the piece is now a knight (until it moves again).
Thoughts?? Any chess fanatics want to play-test it?
