Recall decades ago...
Don't remember if it was Wyoming or Minnesota,
they had a couple days, where the wind chill set the temp at -70, then the next couple days were in the +70s

Mother Nature can be really fickle....

Tornado warning, Randall County, rotating cloud just went over my house, literally. No fooling.

Still here, all okay.

Hope your neighborhood got by-passed.....

Been there done that.
Many years ago, we experienced a funnel cloud. Some of our windows were open. We couldn't help but notice a powerful vacuum action that sucked the curtains flush with the window screens. That and the freight train noise from above gave away the funnel cloud.

I am glad that you are ok.

Tornado Watches are serious enough. Tornado WARNINGS? Yikes!

Glad everyone is okay.

Ayup. That was us a week ago up here in mid-Missouri.

Two tornadoes touched down in Canyon (SVC lives just north of that city). The EF1 took roofs off houses and shoved things around. The EF0 didn't do as much damage. The next morning, a bunch of roofing companies showed up in the neighborhood and got protection up for those houses. True compassion.

Greenville SC tied it's stretch for the most days in a row of 90f temps....
Forecast tomorrow should reset that record to 39 days...
Afterwards a cold front will sweep in from the NE and could get temps in the high 70s for several days....

Stay safe down there, Amarillo; looks like anywhere from six to ten inches of snow and ice for you by the end of Saturday, with overnight lows of 2°F.

NC/SC forecast seems to be losing the chance for snow, seems to more focused toward icy conditions Sat night through late Sunday....

By Michael F Guntly (Ares) on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 10:30 am: Edit

Several different forecasts for St. Louis.

On-line snow forecasts range from 5-11" to 11-15" by Sunday evening. Local television forecasts are not as high at this time. NWS forecast is 4-8".

All sources agree on lows in single digits Friday and Saturday night and below zero Sunday night.

Concerned for all those south of us from Texas to Carolinas that will be getting lots of ice.

By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Thursday, January 22, 2026 - 11:44 pm: Edit

Ice conditions are far more dangerous than snow, my friends. Please be careful.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, January 23, 2026 - 10:08 pm: Edit

We were told to expect five inches of snow today (the grocery store was packed on Thursday afternoon) but got about 1/4 inch if that. It's been around 25F all day. It's snowing heavily now so we're warned to expect to wake up to five or ten inches, blocked highways, and stores that didn't open. The whole Texas Panhandle as been advised to stay home this whole weekend if at all possible. Churches are warning people to really seriously think about catching the service on TV (several of the big churches do that). We're well stocked with everything and ready to ride it out.

Sounds very nice and pleasant!

Today the temperature ws -21, withe wind chill of another -21, so , if one had to go outside, it would feel like -42f.

The state of of Minnesota did post a travel advisory.

To put it in context, back when Jesse Ventura was Governor of Minnesota, he did order the public schools closed, out of concern for children in rural areas. The air temp at the tine was -45 degrees f, with a 75 degree windchill, so if one were outside, it would seem like —120 degrees f.

It actually got a bit colder.

Ah, Minnesota! It builds character!

NC/SC in the area around and North of Greenville was forecast as Sleet around 5-7, 11Pm and nothing yet...

Onslaught of freezing/winter mix starting as Sunday comes upon us.... Have to wait and see on that one...

Sunday ice expected .5 to 1 inch....

Monday am well below freezing, what little might melt expected to refreeze....

Another wait and see... Today's forecast was +/- 49F, it got to 56F here just North of the state line....

By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 12:34 am: Edit

With Jesse Ventura coming from there, yes, I do agree that Minnesota DEFINITELY builds some interesting characters... :)

4am in Amarillo, temperature 4F (four degrees). Wind 8mph. Snow barely 1/4 inch. Thor asleep on me as I sit in my recliner trying to decide between internet jigsaw puzzles and YouTube.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 11:02 am: Edit

10AM no new snow, still barely a quarter inch. Zero Fahrenheit, 8mph wind.

By Mike Erickson (Mike_Erickson) on Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 11:22 am: Edit

Forecast for Sunday/Monday in Massachusetts is up to 18 inches of snow. A nice old school blizzard, unless it suddenly changes direction and peters out. We'll have to see if this turns out to be just regular snow (exit house via rear door to shovel) or a real blizzard (exit house via rear window).

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 04:32 pm: Edit

In certain areas around the great lakes region, you can see driving around older houses with doors (including a storm door attachment) on the second floor (10 to 12 or more feet) in the air above ground.

They are there for when blizzards occur with drifts of snow having been recorded at twenty five feet or higher.

The practical solution for being able to exit ones home in a convenient manner.

The alternative is to chop holes in ones roof to form an egress incase of emergencies…

Note: this actually did occur, and people who had to cut holes in their roof then had the problem of trying to conduct roof repairs (traditionally a fair weather only activity…) during extreme climate conditions.

Oh, what fun!

Up in western NY state, where I grew up, we had a number of occasions where we had to tunnel out of the (single-floor) house, as the snow had drifted up to the eaves.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 06:48 pm: Edit

Still no significant snow in Amarillo. The quarter inch we got isn't even something locals notice. We consider that amount of snow to be "what snow?"

By Mike Grafton (Mike_Grafton) on Sunday, January 25, 2026 - 01:13 pm: Edit

Prospect has around 3" and the local grocery looks like locusts raided it. Even Costco & Good will are closed.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, January 25, 2026 - 02:35 pm: Edit

This morning to feed the birds (thereby entertaining the Bengals) I had to shovel a clear spot on the patio, removing about an inch of snow. It is currently about 20F.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Sunday, January 25, 2026 - 07:06 pm: Edit

We wound up with about 5" up here in mid-Missouri, and are looking at an overnight low of -8°F tonight.
