The new 4400 is not interesting to me. I wasn't that into the original, and this one is preachy-politics which is not what I watch entertainment TV to see.
By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Saturday, October 30, 2021 - 11:45 am: Edit |
I gust yht I ogoogled the 4400 after watching the first episode, and will not watch it further. That it was a CW reboot should have warned me, they ruined "Charmed," and "Roswell," and while a few of their super=hero shows were, to me, watchable, they have done so many crossovers that the ones that were watchable were tainttedI dropped all of them. Basically I see a CW show as almost a Kiss of Death in so far as watching.

The original 4400 started off well enough but as quickly as the show gained popularity the plot line changes frittered away the interest. It died on the vine long before the they pulled it.
Wasn't even aware of the retread, even less interested in watching political messaging. Thanks for the situational awareness, I will avoid it.

I didn't realize The 4400 had started. Was it already cancelled?

We could only wish 4400.2 would be cancelled.

THE DEAD DON'T DIE
Recommended to me was this movie which was one on of the cable channels lately, and I think is being repeated again. It's a total waste of time of a movie and I suggest you avoid wasting time watching it.
Billed as a comedy, nothing is funny.
The talent of the headline star is wasted and I can only assume he did the movie because he lost his money investing in Covid futures and needed a paycheck, or maybe he was doing a favor for a friend who invested in the movie.
The tactics used are silly and wrong. (They should be trying to leave town but then the radio said this was happening world wide. I can only assume that the characters assumed they were doomed and just decided to go through random motions until they met their fate.)
There seemed to be some kind of random gags stuck into random points where they made no sense.
The climatic "tell me" scene ruined the movie rather than actually making sense of it.

Well, I let tivo record things while I was not able to watch (because my remote was not working), and now that I have a new remote I am slowly clearing the back log. One of the shows it recorded was "Overlord", a World War II Horror movie that, yes, was set during Overlord the invasion of Normandy. The first three fifths of the film were pretty standard "world war II movie fare," that is to say the Germans were killing prisoners and the Americans were pressing on despite their losses (platoon was reduced to four men left who were going to try to complete the mission). These were paratroopers,, apparently part of the 101st airborne. The "horror" came in in that the Germans were experimenting with creating what the film right up said were Zombies, but were not your classic zombies in any case, and they showed up about the 3/5 mark. Overall I was pretty much unimpressed. We have the typical "our cause is just" and the remaining troopers killed enough Germans that they made up for their platoon even if three of the survivors of the initial platoon were killed, the beautiful French lady (who helped them) her brother were saved. Like I said, it was pretty much standard fare (with zombies) and I am not likely to watch it again for any reason. One character (for example) said he had been drafted three months ago, which meant they thought three months was enough time to train the man as a combat engineer and paratrooper.

Is that the same as the one where the Germans were using Gargoyles....
That was one I ran across several years ago, but saw just a bit of.....

No. That was a Made for TV movie (Germans using gargoyles). "Overlord" was a big budget picture released in theaters.

Coincidentally, "Overlord" was my scheduled viewing last night (cleared up through 10 days before Hallowe'en!) I missed the direct reference to Zombie, how careful do they have to be about comparisons to 1941's "King of the Zombies"? The version I recorded was from a channel where it was edited for content, but a guy was walking around with half his face blown off, as the saying goes, "Considering what they left in, I'm surprised they took anything out!"
Another thing I didn't realize until the head Nazi boasted that the revival goop under the village, but they didn't realize what they had until the Germans refined it. I don't know if it was explicitly stated; was the idea that the church tower was built over a healing waters site?
Yeah, not worth watching again, but I've seen "Frankenstein's Army," so it's not the worst of its type.

Something somewhere said they were zombies (some write up for the move, I doubt anyone used the term during the film). Could be that I simply made the jump because I saw one man shot dead (the photographer who was brought along on the mission). He was injected after he was killed, came back to laugh, and then pretty quickly became a raging machine such. that he had to be killed (again). As with most zombie films, they did not necessarily follow cannon. The zombies (brought back to life, or injected while still living) were very strong, could communicate (at least living ones could) and could be killed by blowing them up or riddling them with bullets. I am not sure what a head shot would do as no one seems to have tried that. Or if they did, I was just not paying any real attentions by that point.

Some old movies give something to think about when looking at the country's recent history. You might take a look at the Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn film "Keeper of the Flame" as an example. It was released in 1942 against the backdrop of World War II and nazism.

You know, it is amazing that I can recall enough that an old movie I watched is still there, but I recently (earlier today) was trying to recall the three books I read in a very dpressing week, but I cannot recall what the third one was. I can remember that I read "it Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis, and "Seven Days in May," but I cannot recall what the third one was, not even any elements of the plot, much less the title. They were three books that were, apparently, related somewhat, and I can recall the two I have cited pretty well. And I know I have cited them at various times, but now,, well that third book may as well not exist as I cannot remember it at all.

SPP,
The third book you read was Harry Potter and the Stasis Field Generator.

actually, I finally remembered the third book, It was Orwell's "1984."

I just watched the greatest movie ever filmed. Better than Star Wars, better than Citizen Kane, it had everything: action, tropical adventure, disaster at sea, conspiracy, romance, technology, mystery, surprise twists, Epstein island, and clever dialogue. Available on PARAMOUNT PLUS the movie I speak of is ...

SILENT SEA
This is a Korean scifi series (I think eight episodes) on Netflix, dubbed in English. Well done, although the whole idea of LunaWater is not within the laws of physics. Lots of secrets and conspiracies.

Agreed. I still enjoyed it.

I just saw an ad for "War of the Worlds: Annihilation", so I pulled up some reviews. Wow. It has a 2.7 / 10 rating. Pitiful.

SISYPHUS: This is on Netflix (18 episodes), and is South Korean SciFi and VERY good. It's a time travel story with people coming back from about 15 years in the future, some to save the Earth (or at least save Seoul from a North Korean nuke), some just because they regret things they did earlier.
The lead male character is sort of a Korean Elon Musk, the smartest man in the world. The female lead is impossibly pretty.

I liked it but it was definitely over the top. As in McGuyver on steroids. The guy writes an entire hacking app on his phone in like 12 seconds. lol

I have enjoyed the review/analysis videos on YouTube by Critical Drinker. I think he really understand and identifies why modern movies are so awful and so bent on destroying every franchise that we grew up enjoying. Hollywood thinks we cannot be allowed to have heroes any more.
