I prefer the version by the Brian Setzer Orchestra

So, Grace Vanderwaal is 17 years old now and just came out with a new single. I wanted to hate it because, well, it's such a radial change of direction from all her previous works. But I can't hate it. It's so darn good with a really cool retro vibe (if 1990s qualifies as "retro").

Grace VanderWaal - Don't Assume What You Don't Know (Official Video): Runtime = 2:37

Lyrics
Drive through the streets with your eyes closed,
trip on a stick where the wind blows,
so out of reach but it looks close, don’t assume what you don’t know.
You act real hot but you’re still cold, you wanna be rich with a Lambo,
So out of reach but it looks so close, don’t assume what you don’t know

You can walk around the entire world
But you still end up with what you started with first
Spit out money and you offer out lures
Get the girl but it wasn’t the cure
The television told you if you got up and went
Within 5/6 months you’d be playing japan
Now you’re in a new world you don’t have a friend
Don’t assume what you don’t know

So you told your ma that you’re gonna be free
You’re gonna be a new branch on the Hollywood tree
You leave with a couple hundred maybe three
And your high school degree
Finally you get an opportunity
They say listen close and only to me
Just sign off your name and creativity
Don’t ya don’t ya wanna be a star

You can walk around the entire world
But you still end up with what you started with first
Spit out money and you offer out lures
Get the girl but it wasn’t the cure
The television told you if you got up and went
Within 5/6 months you’d be playing japan
Now you’re in a new world you don’t have a friend
Don’t assume what you don’t know

This is a really good six minute science fiction movie about two people trying to fix a broken world.

This is a powerful story about two incredibly powerful (magic) women who love and respect each other but just cannot get along.

This is a beautiful love story that begins when a village selects the prettiest girl to be sacrificed to the hungry dragon who won't burn down the town if given a fair maiden.

And finally, this is one of the best music videos ever done, well worth a watch 100 times without getting stale.

This is absolutely adorable. A twelve-year-old violist was doing a street performance when a little boy came out of the crowd to dance with her. What happened next is just too cute for words.

Maybe some of you remember and can help me.

Years ago, maybe 20 or 30, I saw a rock video on a hotel TV channel. I think it was on MTV but I cannot be sure.

I think it was Rod Stewart but I am not 100% sure.

The only think I am sure of is that the video was shot at some kind of backyard pool party at some kind of mansion at night. And it had a good beat. One of his faster ones, not one of the slow ones.

Anyway, for some reason the memory of that video popped up in my head but trying to find it on youtube wasn't practicable. Anybody got a clue to help me find it? One of you has got to be a Rod Stewart fan.

I'd guess either "Tonight I'm Yours" or "Infatuation". I wouldn't say either is a perfect match to your description but it's what came to mind.

Tonight I'm Yours was not the video I saw so many years ago but it was clearly shot at the same place on the same night. Thanks.

The filming location for that one was the Sunset Marquis in Los Angeles. It was immensely popular with recording artists at the time, who regularly threw what amounted to wild keggers there, and some of these were filmed and used for a variety of music videos.

Who knew all those wasted hours watching MTV in my youth would pay off in 2021?

Sad news: the singer Meatloaf passed away last night at age 74. :(

[with apologies to Irving Berlin and Taco]

If you're blue, and nobody seems to like you
Why don't you launch a half-baked blitz?
Putin on the fritz

Tanks on roads run out of fuel, and soldiers
With nowhere to go have empty kits
Putin on the fritz

Dress them up like first-rate paratroopers
Watch them drop to earth like D.B. Coopers (pooper-scoopers)

Go and mix with oligarchs throwing fits
All of their cash falls through their mitts
Putin on the fritz

"Watch them drop to earth like D.B. Coopers"

... ok, where's the towel. Gotta clean my screen of all I was just drinking.

Seriously, that was really good.

This song is one of the funniest things I've read in years. Bravo!

I've been getting a lot short-vids on YouTube for Malinda. She has the perfect voice for Irish folk songs and sea-shanties. Do check her channel out on YouTube.

What the frak? The YouTube algorithm went nuts this morning. My entire recommended list consists of weird music videos from people I have never heard of, some of them French, Czech, and Russian. Except for one by Sabaton and one by Robert Palmer I had to mark them DO NOT RECOMMEND CHANNEL.

By Guillaume Williams (Uioor1) on Monday, May 29, 2023 - 10:42 am: Edit

YouTube does that sometimes. It'll throw a bunch of random stuff at you for a few days to see if it can get you to watch whatever stuff is currently trending and leads down a rabbit hole of watch-time and ad revenue

By Mike Erickson (Mike_Erickson) on Monday, May 29, 2023 - 02:49 pm: Edit

Some content posters/owners also pay for placements, for their materials to be placed in front of viewers who have otherwise expressed no interest.

It's somewhat like food vendors paying for end cap space in the grocery story.

I figured it was something like that. It seems to happen about once a month. One time years ago, every single "recommendation" was a video of Celine Dion singing.
