Sevya, I believe that the conversion formula is the same as the official design rules, except that there are a few fudges to take into account the differences in the two systems. Mostly the SFU ships seem to have more non-combat "stuff" than most Starmada ships would have of the same volume. Daniel Kast does the official conversions, I imagine he could comment further.

OK, I'll ask over at the MJ12 forums.

Just as an aside, the Kzinti DN w/speed-20 drones SHOULD cost more than Juggy; Juggy has serious issues in dealing with large numbers of seeking weapons (no decoy shuttles!). A Kzinti DN with fast drones wouldn't even break a sweat killing Juggy.

This is especially true in Starmada, where the drones are pretty fast and Juggy has no rotating shield.

For those who haven't seen it, the index for KLA has been uploaded.

If I have tactical notes for Star Fleet Armada to submit to Daniel Kast for the CapLog S.F. Armada page, where do I send them? I can't seem to find an email address anywhere.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 - 11:41 am: Edit

You actually send those to Petrick, not to Daniel.

Just a quick refresher, Alien Armada is going to be The Tholians, Seltorians, and Orions?

So Alien Armada 2 will have the Hydrans, Lyrans/LDR, and the WYN?

And will there be an Alien Armada 3 with the Andromedeans, ISC, and the Vudar?

I swore I asked this at Origins, but I can't find it on the podcast for SFU Seminar.

Thanks

I don't think you asked since the title "alien armada" is only going to be used once; there is no "alien armada 2" in your future. That would be something like Hydran Armada or Distant Armada or Kingdoms Armada.

In the Klingon Armada Rulebook it says that each drone rack noted on the data card is a carrier space with a capacity of 12, and a drone flight is size 4.

Can someone explain to me what the 12 means? We have a player who is arguing each rack is 12 spaces and each flight is 4, so each rack can fire 3 times. I think each rack can only fire once per game, and the 12 is something to do with construction or something
Who is right?
How does this work?

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Monday, December 20, 2010 - 10:36 pm: Edit

Gregg, all that has to do with the Starmada ship construction system. A drone rack launches only once per game and launches a flight of four drones.

I just got a copy of Klingon Armada to look over, and I'll be showcasing my first game of it tomorrow to a friend. I'm 100% new to the system but a long long time SFB / FC player.

I was not able to find a place which listed how much damage an actual drone hit did.

Page #31 listed a drone as:

Drone Flight: Size 4; Speed 8; Attack 4+; Defense 0

I did not see any reference to damage scored or impact rating. I also noticed that suicide shuttles also don't seem to list the damage or impact as well.

After 30 minutes of rule flipping and then forum searching, I decided it might be faster to just ask here.

Good question, I never noticed that before. I assumed that drones were IMP 1, DMG 1 and ditto for suicides. I can't find any rule that definitively says so though.

Treat them like standard/default fighter flights as described in the fighter flight rules at the front of the book.

(I don't have my book handy to double check this... but I remember experiencing the same confusion last year.)

STARMADA UNITY BEGINS

We have released Klingon Armada Unity, the first book in the new edition. This edition unifies the previous Nova and Admiralty editions, so there will no longer be Starmada fans who cannot game together. The new rules preserve the best of both previous systems, and add dynamic seeking weapons rules that do what seeking weapons are supposed to do: force the enemy to move out of key areas or shoot his way through a swam of drones. Next year, the sixth book in the series, RUMORS OF WARS, as well as the seventh and eighth books, will appear in the Unity format only.

Because we want to bring all Starmada players together, we're making Unity a free PDF upgrade for anyone who bought the Nova or Admiralty editions of this book. Nothing was wrong with either edition, other than the fact that it was harder to find opponents who played by the same rulebook. That problem is now solved.

If you bought a PDF of either the Admiralty edition or Nova edition through Warehouse 23, DriveThru RPG, or Wargame Vault, then your PDF library now contains the original older Nova or Admiralty edition you bought AND the new Unity edition we're giving you. As each book is replaced (Klingon Armada now, the others -- Romulan Armada, Distant Armada, Alien Armada, and Battleships Armada -- over the next few months) we will take the old editions off sale (but leave them in your library) and upload the new edition for sale to new players. (If you want the Starmada Logs, then you need to purchase them promptly as they will not be updated nor will they remain on sale after the last of the old books is taken down.)

Get your copy of Klingon Armada Unity from the following sources:

Warehouse 23: http://www.warehouse23.com/products/ADB6131

DriveThru RPG: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/218524/

Wargame Vault: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/218524/

It is available in hardcopy from ADB: http://www.starfleetstore.com/starmada-c-89/klingon-armada-unity-p-1254.html

Anyone who bought a hardcopy of Klingon Armada Nova or Klingon Armada Admiralty can get a free PDF copy by contacting us at marketing@starfleetgames.com. If you want to replace your hardcopy Nova/Admiralty book with a hardcopy Unity book, we'll sell you one for our cost ($8, less than half price) plus shipping. Hardcopies of Nova/Admiralty books will no longer be available but you will be able to buy hard copies of the new Unity books from ADB, Inc.
