The FLGS had a copy of the Rules Annex in today!
Now to sit down and actually have a proper look through it - not least at the crew-kill rules and the preview of The Sovereign Stars...

Mike Sparks wants "some still photos of big Star Fleet Starmada games with lots of minis" to use in the Starmada product line video. Email him at Support@StarFleetGames.com.

General questions to players experienced in multi SFU systems;
Why would I play star fleet armada over sfb? over fedderation commander? over actaSF?
Whats missing from star fleet armada that you would normally find in sfb at least in a tournament duel?

While I haven't played Star Fleet Armada, I've played some Starmada X in the past.
It's not so much that anything is specifically "missing" from one game or the other. Well, except in the sense that games are models, and by definition, models embody a specifically chosen set of attributes. It's more about the type of game that you want to play.
Want a detailed game where you control every aspect of the ships involved? Go with SFB.
Want a moderately detailed game but with more streamlined gameplay? Go with FC.
Want to refight Operation Calvary on a tactical level in an evening? Go with SF Armada.
Want a streamlined miniatures game? Go with ACTASF.
It used to be that if you wanted to fight tactical battles in the SFU, you had one choice: SFB. While SFB is a great game, not everyone likes its level of detail, nor does it lend itself well to large battles. Over the last few years, SFG has been expanding the options so that more people can find a Star Fleet game that they enjoy.

I do have to say that, while Starmada and ACTA are fun, I still prefer SFB. A short while ago I played a pick up tourney game of SFB. I was Fed and my bro was a Klingon. My heart was pounding in my chest as he kept dropping shuttles out the back. One was a scatter-pack, I was sure, but which one? I think that game was more fun than all of the ACTA and Starmada I've played put together. There really is no substitute for Star Fleet Battles!

For the one-on-one duel, I don't think you can beat SFB. But, there's more to the SFU than one-on-one duels. There are larger squadron and fleet actions, which are more of a chore in SFB.

Rangers Alert!
These are the Starmada Rangers that I have listed. I'm not going backwards into a list that is more than 10 years old -- if you want to be listed, please email me with your name, location (state), how far you are willing to travel) address, phone number, and which game lines you feel confident about demoing.
Mike Baker
Thanks for your willingness to teach!

I have sent notices out to the Rangers that I know have done demos in the past few years. If I missed you, please contact me by email.

I've had a question on BGG -- can anyone tell me quickly what is the difference between the Admiral and Nova editions?
By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Saturday, January 11, 2014 - 09:10 pm: Edit |
Nova plays faster, streamlining the movement system and speeding up damage allocation with only one die roll needed to resolve a hit. Otherwise basically the same.

So now that CL50 is out with the andro starmada rules, anyone care to spoil them? How close is the "Feel" to the SFB style andros'?
