Plasticky! Yes, that's EXACTLY the description I was looking for - couldn't put my finger on it. I'd be using this as a desktop background for some time, and the comparison just seemed...there was just something wrong with it I couldn't quite nail down!

The rules should be in SVC's hands (so to speak) by the end of this week.

Daniel, Leanna needs the starmada annex cover in jpg. The PDFs you sent won't work. She's been trying to contact you for days.

Any update on the relase of ROMULAN ARMADA?

I'm really enjoying getting back into the Star Fleet Universe with KLINGON ARMADA after a long hiatus, but personally the plasma races have always been my favorites so I am really looking forward to the second ARMADA release!

Great! Thanks, Steve. :-)

Hi

I have an Andromadan fleet of miniatures and was wondering if there were any plans for Andros using the Starmada, Klingon Armada and Romulan Armada system?

Thanks

Regards, Jaeg

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - 10:58 am: Edit

Yes, but not this year.

We're just finishing ROMULAN ARMADA at this point.

Then we have three products lined up:

one combining FC Orion Attack and FC Tholian Attack

one combining FC Battleships Attack and FC Boosters 16-18

One combining Distant Kingdoms and Hydran Attack.

Assuming we don't do a fighter or gunboat pack next, Andros would come after that.

Figure 4-6 months between packs.

Well, my FLGS got a few copies of Romulan Armada in recently - and I was able to pick mine up yesterday!

A few thoughts/comments/observations:

*Like with Klingon Armada, RMA is missing its monsters. Will they be added to the Starmada product page?

*On Page 34, in the rules for plasma torpedoes:

Quote:

Plasma torpedoes can only be attacked by phaser. They are immune to other types of weapons, and may not be targeted by other fighters/strikers/seekers.

At present, there are no 'true' fighters (in the SFU sense of the term) in the game system - but when the likes of Hydran Stingers or what have you are up for consideration, this rule as currently written would prevent them from using their phasers to try and degrade plasmas. That could significantly reduce a Hydran fleet's plasma defence options... unless the rules for Stingers are to include an appropriate exception, I guess.

*On page 36, the line that says

Quote:

The weapon types represented in Klingon Armada are described below

should instead refer to Romulan Armada - not least since there already is a separate reference to KLA rules after the list of RMA weapons is shown.

*In the faction list on page 37, the poor Gorns are referred to as minor combatants. True, they aren't exactly the UFP, but the Confederation isn't that much less than the Star Empire in terms of its size and economic worth (especially in the years before the Romulans added those extra provinces rimward of ISC space). Certainly the Feds weren't exactly sniffing at their entry into the General War when they joined on the side of the Alliance...

*It's interesting to note how the Mobile Base is presented in so many weapon variants - making them usable for Klingon and Kzinti players (and Tholian ones who don't mind missing web) - but it might be an idea to present such variations 2 to a page rather than giving each one its own pair of diagrams, if only to free up space for other ships/bases/rules.

*It's notable that in this game, the Condor is worth more points than the K9R - the first time I've seen the home-grown dreadnought out-do the Klingon-built ship in that regard. I wonder how the differences in the system make this so.

*On the Day of the Eagle page, I saw that the Lexington was rescued by a Gorn BC. Is this covered in an existing scenario, for any game system? Indeed, what kind of Gorn presence was there on the Fed-Romulan border during the invasion, and did any of those ships 'hang around' in Fed space prior to the Confederation's formal entry into the war?

Monsters don't play well with Starmada.

By Andy Siviter (Asroc2000) on Thursday, June 10, 2010 - 11:16 am: Edit

In general I am very happy with the Starmada conversions, it it really is a fast flowing fun game to play, however there are a couple of decisions that someone has made in the conversions that I don't really understand.

In SFB the old style Romulan ships were generally the snails of the galaxy, only marginally faster than freighters, much of their power was from Impulse and their maximum tactical speed was somethign like 2/3rds that of most other warships.
In RA, the War Eagle and Battlehawk are some of the fastest ships in the game!

Also Fast Cruisers in SFB are amongst the fastest units in the game, in KA and RA they are no faster than a regular line cruiser or war cruiser.

Anyone know why this is so?

The Romulan Armada Ship Cards are now up on e23! Check them out here: http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB6102-S

The Klingon Armada Ship Cards are also available: http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB6101-S

They're faster in SFB/FC because they have big engines and fewer weapons to arm. Star Fleet Mada doesn't have the same tradeoff between fire and movement that SFB/FC have so some things are lost in translation.

Klingon and Romulan Armada players rejoice! The rules for Klingon Armada (http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB6101-R) and Romulan Armada (http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=ADB6102-R) are now available for download through e23. For only $5.95 each, these are a great deal! They do require the Ship Cards in order to play the game.

About Klingon Armada Rules:
These are the PDFs for the rules and scenarios from the Klingon Armada product. (Klingon Armada is an expansion to the Starmada game system, done as a joint venture between Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc., and Majestic Twelve Games.) Included are the basic Starmada "quick start" rules, along with specific rules for the Federation, Klingons, Kzintis, Orion Pirates, and Tholians (phasers, photon torpedoes, drones, disruptors). You will need the Klingon Armada ship diagrams (ADB6101-S) to use these rules.

I hope you enjoy them.

I have noticed that releasing the new SFU-mada downloads seems to have caused a jump in downloads of the KA ship cards. They were sitting at 55 downloads for a while, now they are up to 70.

By Phil Shanton (Mxslade) on Saturday, August 28, 2010 - 11:01 am: Edit

They're at 72 now (27th on the non-SJ games hot downloads).

The RA ship cards and the RA rules seem to be pacing each other, with the KA rules behind them.

Good to see, congrads to the ADB for making this stuff available.

By Michael Baker (Csragamaster) on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 - 09:58 pm: Edit

I really like the new Klingon Starmada rules! Its allowed me to play lots of star trek with my buds. We are breaking out some of the larger SFB scenarios that would take too long under the normal rules. Thanks to ADB and MJXII for bringing all this together!

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 - 07:36 am: Edit

Guys, if you bought Starmada on e23, please remember to rate the products! It can be the tipping point for someone who wants to try out a new game.

Thanks for your help!

For those who haven't seen it, the Alien Armada front and back covers look cool!

I can't wait to see what those surprise ships will be...
