Good luck getting that hellbore card when you need it. I'm sure the guy next to you with the Federation ships is really hating you when you keep pulling that photon out and discarding it.

Yes, the problem is that currently you have X percent chance that one of your ships has a photon, and Y percent chance that any given card you draw will be a photon. If you add hellbore, fusion, esg, and ppd ships, then the odds of having a given weapon on one of your ships are half as much, and the odds of getting that weapon are half as much. Meaning that the number of "useless" cards you draw gets to be about 2 or 3 times as many. The game stagnates and collapses. It might work if you had twice as many ships (although the game would take twice as long to play) and your hand was 10 cards (although the lucky guy who drew ten plasma cards and had plasma ships is going to win in one turn).

Holo cards, foil cards, and similar cards are incredibly expensive to make if you're not printing a few million of them. I did look into this and it's not possible.
