A nice initial build for a diehard game is as follows; C-WG,C-WG,O-SLV,W-AC,W-ACC,W-OLR,O-LR,K-G4,F-POL,F-POL.This will leave 263 points for next turn including Turn 1 income. The Generics allow for maximum flexibility for Srvy, Repair, Scout, Mines etc. The extra Warpgates allow for quick expnsion and power projection and the 2 F-Pols are 2 cheap prospectors, one of which can be pulled back to the HO on turn 4 to be turned into a cheap crew 7 cloak scanner. And the G4 is a jack of all trades ship that does a lot of things well.

Call me stupid, new or just plain dumb, but how does that F-Pol get to crew 7 by turn 4? Maybe I am just no understanding what you mean. Do you mean it eventually turns into crew 7 and just comes home on turn 4 or what? Very curious. Thanks, and dont make too much fun of me if the answer is simple! ;)

The F-POL starts at crew 4. After 5 turns you can upgrade the ship (on the FEDs this gives you +1 to crew).
So on turn 4 you move the ship to your HO (or any base). Turn 5 you issue the following orders:
TRNG TRNG UPGR xLOS
The first TRNG trains to crew 5.
The second TRNG trains to crew 6.
The URGR order upgrades the crew to 7.
The xLOS gives the ship a science officer (which then gives the ship SCOUT abilities.
After that just sit on the HO and issue SCAN CLOAK every turn.
BTW: At turn 15 the ship then gets an auto upgrade bringing it up to crew 8. This gives you a cheap ship that can PRSP heavy terrains (VP, MO) with impunity (and the 50% PRSP bonus for high crew levels too).

Here is another use for a F-POL initial buid. In Y170 you receive your first Prime Team (PT). On turn 6 the orders line looks like this GLOP TRNG TRNG TRNG UPGR. This gives you a Crew-8 Survey ship! For those of you who don`t get it, this means a 75% prospecting bonus and immunity to VP terrain. Need I say more? Later (Turn 15)it will go to crew-9, then you can put your Science Off. on board and scan for cloak at crew-9.

When do you get a second prime team (I usually put mine on the Generic heading to the GraveYard)?
BTW Randy...Crew 8 is immune to VP, Crew 9 is immune to NO and SN (which PRSP for 100 EP...no bonus allowed.
If your playing Feds it may be cheaper to wait for the CC! (crew 9) and drop a LS on it...if your gutsy enough to wait that long for the cloak scanner.

Kelly, believe it not I often never use my second or third PT, many of my games see them still in the bin at the end. Why? Because by the second PT the game is about over(regular) or moving to the offensive phase(dh) and the prsp bonus is neither needed or the prospectable terrain is gone. One good use for them is as a hex peeker. By using the prox scan capability you can peek over a enemy border to see if they have a surprise waiting or not. And NO hexes do not give any Eps, only SN. You can use the Pol in a crew 7 scan cloaker on turn 6, this usually suffices early in a game.

What other Die-Hard standard builds work for you? What about standard game builds?
